Titanic is the #1 box office film-even LOTR or Star Wars cant beat it.I saw Titanic once-it was good-I liked it ,but never saw it again.Wonder why it became such a big hit? With no more Star Wars films to be made-will any film ever top it?Outside chance-the Hobbit-if its ever done?

I like ROTK more than Titanic.
...
Why? Because Star Wars and LOTR aren't love movies. Couples go to love movies, so people would go with their girlfriends/boyfriends.
That's my thought.

Because the ration of women to men in the world is about 2:1. I saw the movie twice, on purpose. I fell asleep the first time and missed the boobs.
By the way, Peter Jackson will start filming The Hobbit in 2008.

Titanic was a good movie!!!
I thought that LOTR was gonna beat it.
Then I thought Spider-Man would and it didn't.
There are so many other films that could've beaten it but they didn't but one day someone will.
I also thought Passion of the Christ(Harry Potter) would beat it too.

Maybe it should be passion of the anti-christ scince some religous people are against HP.While HP movies do great-they havent done near-Titanic numbers.I didnt know PJ agreed to do the Hobbit? He had other films lined up 1st-and is suing New Line for back royalties.

I believe 'Gone With The Wind' would be at the top, but it's box office numbers can never be offically totaled.

I think it happened to hit at the right time. Also, I think men are less likely to see a movie a hundred thousand times than women and this particular film was geared more towards women. Yet, at the same time, it had elements that men could get into, including the awesome special effects and more obviously the boobies.
In that sense, I think it was a film that capitalized on its female audience seeing it over and over again and the men willing to go along because there were elements that they could look forward too as well.
Personally, I enjoyed pretty much the entire movie and am glad that none of those atrocious LOTR films ever even made a real challenge to its title. Of course, that's a debate for another thread.

I really liked Titanic,I hated when James Cameron screamed "I am the king of the world" at the Oscar ceremony.
I have to admit that the relationship between Jack and Rose was too corny, and it distracted historical facts....but if not were for Jack and Rose the movie was great!!
Honestly I thought that Jack and Rose was irrelevant to the Titanic disaster....

I thought this movie was going to be terrible because I already knew the whole story before I even saw it! My best friend had to practicly drag me to go see it.
But, when I went to see it-the dang thing had me in tears!! I'm a big girl, I can admit it! The part that put it over the edge for me was when that mother was putting her kids to sleep while she knew the boat was sinking and she knew she couldn't save them, so sad!!

The movie is really good. However like I said, there were times in which they focused too much in Jack and Rose.
However this movie is far superior to the horrible
Raise the Titanic...now that is a bad movie!!
But the good thing about the movie are the FX,the scene in which the musicians play "Nearer My God to thee" is really sad....
I had seen other Titanic movies, but this really impressed me.
I loved the ending though.
And yes I hated Jack Dawson!!
However there were some scenes that never made it to the final cut,and the DVD edition was so lanme.I mean, when I bought the DVD,I wanted special features included with added scenes,
behind the scenes and trailers.Nothing came in the DVD except the theatrical trailer and that s it.
While other DVDs are produced with great quality and have many special features,Titanic s case was different.
Being a blockbuster movie the DVD edition deserved a better treatment....like maybe some publicity material,an interview with the cast and crew....but nothing.
A shame that a lousy DVD came for a great movie.
Maybe in future editions we could see special bonus materials...

It was a good movie based on a well known tragedy. They creatively mixed romance and culture conflict with historical fact, which made it appealing to a large audience.
However, they only new each other for a few days... A FEW DAYS! I'm sorry but I would have made her find her own driftwood.

That is perfect! No back-seat booty is worth freezing my balls off over.
Titanic is what is defined as a four quadrant movie. Meaning it has aspects that are appealing to women and men, young and old. Few movies can cross all those barriers-that is what best explains its success at the box office.
The action is appealing to some, the love story is appealing to some, the history is appealing to some, it tends to have something for everyone.
I personally saw it 8 times in the theater :p I consider it and 'Gone with the Wind' two of the best movies of all time.

Well,I definately liked Titanic better then Gone with the Wind.
And its probably the only top film based on a true story-so that would have a strong appeal.I see from the posts that many women really loved it-no doubt Leo had something to do with that-and of course Kate was quite nice i might add.I saw it once and didnt really care to see it again-though its been awhile and I'd like to watch it again.
