So, this is a thread to talk about anime. From Ghost in the Shell to Inuyasha, from Wolf's Rain to Case Closed.
My favorite anime is Case Closed. I'm in love with the main character. ;) The cases are so interesting too. What are you guys's favorite?

Oh yeah...:( That's Hotaru no haka in Japan, IIRC. Wasn't that a Miyazaki film? I think it was based off of an autobiography too. :(

I believe so because it was retelling the accounts of what happened to some orphaned children right after WW2.

My favorite:
Patlabour 2
On Starz (I think) they used to have late night action Firday's were they showed different anime movies. It only lasted a few weeks which drove me nuts because it was the one spot where I got a good amopunt of exposure to anime and once I got into it they yanked it.
I also saw Ghost In A Shell on that to. It was good.
The one anime movie I don't care for is Akira. That movie just bores the heck out of me.
The thing I love about anime is it's ability to peg humans right. It gets all sides and paints everything grey.

I know this might be a kiddie one, but does Sailor Moon count as anime? I thought it was cute, and IMO has better continuity then some live action shows lol.

Akira...genius...first anime I saw and has stuck with me...nothing like seeing Tetsuo cheesecake all over the place:lol: ...but the mangas give soo much more to the story...you must read all 6 chapters of those.
Ruruoni Kenshin before it hit Cartoon Network was my favorite show for the longest time...his battle with Shi-Shi O was the most bad ass thing ever!!
Goldenboy...best 6 episode sex comedy show out there...a must for a good laugh at dirty stuff...not hentai at all...even though it is mature...I am a die hard subtitles guy but Akira must be dubbed for my taste because that's how I first saw it...and Goldenboy must be as well...the voice actor did it just soo well...
Battle Athletes started slow then really grew on me...of course Vampire Hunter D...I know Evangelion is considered the greatest series of all time...but ehhh...
Nothing makes me laugh more than the elitest anime watcher...they consider DBZ or Inuyasha is fluff..."that's not true anime" in their eyes...
Oh...X was really good...
I have confession...I had a really good friend that was the VP/Secretary for his college anime group...so a couple of years ago I used to watch all of these before they got over here lol...they can show them as long as they aren't in the states for sale...and you just bring your VCR and apparently just hook it up to the master VCR and tape off the master right there...there where people there that had hundreds of different animes that way.
That was a little much for my blood

In short: Best. Anime. Ever. :D :D :D :D :D I love it sooooo much. Of course, I'm a mystery fan, I like CSI and watnot, so this is my thing. The cases are interesting, the main character is sex-ay, and the humor is good. The only thing is, some of the older eps have somewhat poor animation, but that's hardly enough to drag it down.

One of my friends loves Ranma...he figures he has about 10 years left given the lack of cash to purchase all of the episodes lol.
I love watching the music videos done to anime almost as much as anime sometimes. One of my favorites, if I'm in a particularly masochistic mood, is an Oh My Goddess! vid done to Iris from the Goo Goo Dolls...it is really sad but so good.

I was never a big anime fan until about two years. I am a sci-fi fan and I came across a movie called The Guyver and The Guyver 2. The movie had some lame dialogue and ok action, but someone told me about two anime DVD's that were the original Guyver and not some americaniation. I got the two anime Guyver DVD's and they were awesome. The action was alot more intense and violent. I loved 'em and ever since then I have been interested into anime.

I'll have to speak up if no one else will - I'm not the hugest anime fan myself (while I find anime's stylized animation style to be cool, I'm not always impressed with the writing and storytelling...maybe it just doesn't translate over too well.) That said, the only other show that I can obsess over nearly as much as Smallville has got to be Cowboy Bebop. From beginning to end (including both the show and the movie) it is an absolute masterpeice. Way freakin' cool.

I'm a big Tenchi fan. Can't wait for OVA 3 in the summer.
For some reason I didn't enjoy Akira at the time, but now want to see it again, as if I liked it.
I keep meaning to see Cowboy Bebop. I saw one episode on my mate's laptop once instead of paying attention in a lecture. Looked pretty good.

It was a Studio Ghibli film, but not Miyazaki. Isao Takahata. Everyone gets it wrong. Beautifully, incredbily directed animes from Studio Ghibli have to be Miyazaki forsome reason.. :p
MY favorite recent anime is Bleach. Ichigo totally rocks. Ah! my Goddess TV. The OVAs and movie rocked I'm glad to see it back.
Serial Experiments Lain is my favorite of all time. Bubblegum crisis 2040 rocks! I want to get the Escaflowne Collection soon, when I feel like splurging.
Card Captor Sakura is the cutest, wholesome, uplifting anime I was ever seen. I wach it whenever I feel depressed.
I used to keep a list of all the anime I have seen... its beyond cound now.

Grave of the Fireflies is such a wonderful movie, but I can't watch the whole thing without crying. And I hate crying over a movie.
I like Serial Ex. Lain too, except I had to force myself through the first two episodes. I really didn't like them. I like it now though. CCS is soooo cute, and I love Kero. If you want an uplifting anime though, I suggest Furuba. I swear, I can't help but to try harder to be happy and grateful everytime I watch the show are read the manga. I love that series to an insane degree.

If you're talking Tenchi Muyo, then I used to be a fan back in the day. It kind of stopped comming on TV and I couldn't find the DVDs anywhere. I have one VHS of it, though. I miss it.
Akira.. old school anime. I watched it for the first time a few months ago and loved it.

Hey, any Gatchaman fans out there. Some might know it by "Battle of the Planets" or even "G-Force". Maybe some know it as "Eagle Riders". Anyways, it the first sentai(team) anime and one of the best anime ever. Back in 2000, NTT in Japan used Gatchaman in a series of commercials; two were live action and one was anime. Now the campaign is back:Gatchaman (http://www.ntt-east.co.jp/GOGO/index.html)

Hey everyone.
I guess I'd have to say my favourite anime would be Sailormoon. I've loved it since I was a little kid and I still love it now. I was also obsessed with Inuyasha for a while. But that had passed.
Um.
I've recently gotten into some cool Yaoi manga as well (surprisingly enough, and yaoi manga happens to basically be manga centered upon gay individuals and/or gay couple(s))
'Le Esperance' is what the yaoi manga is called and it's probably the most amazing thing I've ever read. It's so full of drama, faith, and doing whats in your heart.
:p Lol. I'm weird I know.

Inuyasha is pretty cool, that show only have a few episodes left. Blue Gender and Samurai Champloo I watch a lot on DVD. I was hooked from the start on both shows.
I have a lot! ^^
But right now I'm really into Bleach, Death Note, xxxHolic and Hellsing.
I like their characters, story, music and all!!!
And Evangelion would be my other option...it's just a classic :D
