View Full Version : Basic Spoiler Complaints

Lately, people have been dropping spoilers around here like crazy. I'll be in some sweet, innocent character discussion when, out of the blue, someone will casually mention something that's happening in a future episode in order to support whatever point they are trying to make. If I'm lucky, they'll start with, "I can't believe that, in the next episode..." so I can stop reading in time. But, sometimes, there's no warning at all. It's just BAM, spoiler.

I don't think it's done maliciously or intentionally, or anything. I think some people just assume everyone reads the spoilers, and everyone already knows. Or else, they have the spoiler info in their heads, and it just comes out in the heat of the moment.

But, believe me, some of us really and truly DON'T. WANT. TO. KNOW.

I have been a proud spoiler-phopic for years. Knowing spoilers in advance (because a fellow poster on a message board has slipped and spilled something) has never made me happy. Even if it's a "good" spoiler, knowing in advance slightly ruins the episode for me. I honestly don't want to know what happens until I see it on screen.

So all I ask is, if you are anywhere but in the Spoiler Forum, think before you spoil.

If you do notice that, please report the post so we can edit the spoiler out :)

It's so annoying.

You know, reading all of the spoilers as they are released is an easy way of not having to worry about that. :p

I try to refrain from doing that and I have reported some spoilery stuff in the past. :)

They still continue to come through and most of the time as a moderator, I'm unaware of it especially when it comes down to appearing in the main section.

We've actually been doing that lately.

Also a problem with people spoiling under the one week rule (rule 6).

I honestly try to get those treads as quickly as I can, but there are 1000 of poster as opposed to 14 or 15 mods. There are times we needed to be alerted on those particulars. If not contact us or report it.

Seems most are skipping the entire reading the rules of the details...I actually did it immedately after the 100th episode, so I can understand the slipping up, but it should all remain under the one week rule either way unless it's in that episode thread or the Spoilerific Art thread or Spoiler section.

WARNING - SPOILERS (may be hypocritical but it's the only way I can get my point across):

But even ones that are reported are still ignored. Please think of those of us who don't read the spoiler page! The thread "Johnthan's brush with death in the comics" contains the line "Hey guys after watching SV's 100th epy in which featured the death of Johnthan" - which is blatently against rule 6 "6) We have a one week rule for any new Smallville or Veronica Mars episode that airs. This means you cannot discuss anything about that particular episode on any forum or thread not specifically devoted to that forum for one week after airing. For Smallville, we have an entire discussion sub-forum per episode; thus far for Veronica Mars, we have one sub-forum for the entire season, with one thread per episode. DISCUSSION OF THE DETAILS OF THESE EPISODES SHOULD NOT TAKE PLACE ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE BOARDS FOR A WEEK AFTER ITS ORIGINAL AIRDATE. Incorporating information from these episodes outside these boundaries can start the following Wednesday for VM, the following Thursday for SV."

So why isn't it picked up even when it's reported? There's another post in the same forum which talks about "dead kents" - that's against the rule too as there are no dead kents in any episodes that aren't regulated by rule 6 any more. I've reported that twice and it's still there, it could ruin the episode for people still guessing who the death could be.

I can't speak for everyone of the mods or Administrators but we do what we can to remedy the problems. There are more posters than there are mods and there over 1000 threads on the site and not every mod has the time to read them. As to who gets the report depends on the section and who's listed and who's on at that particular instance in time and if their willing to take care of the matters. Simple as that and I do take care of every report I get sent my way.

how do we put spoiler tags if we want to post something spoilerish in other forums? (i.e., discussion forum, other shows forum, etc...)

spoiler tags

We don't live on the Internet. There are only 10 active mods. If you report a thread, a mod will get to it as soon as humanly possible. Just because no one gets to it *immediately* doesn't mean we don't care. So, keep reporting those spoiler threads. They are a pet peeve of mine too.

What about when it's been 5 days for it though Penny? That's not too soon for it to have been caught is it? I even reported quoting the rule it breached and still nothing was done (too late now, finally beyond the 7 day rule but that shouldn't matter as it was an illegal post in the first place).

And now we have no UK it's going to be even harder to avoid them.

Why not have a non-US forum? Perhaps with a spoiler limit of anything up to the start of the current season? Should cover most of europe and other regions that.

Please see the rules before posting

As per ProudPenny's announcement - Specifically to deal with the concern of spoilers, as well as dealing with our international members and creating an international community here on KryptonSite, we have created one thread per episode in the past season section of the episode discussion sub-forum. This way you can discuss each episode as it airs in whichever country you are in and members from all over the world can discuss the same episode together as they watch it.

As for the one week rule & other spoiler rules, obviously we try to catch what we can... but please, to help us out, report any posts that are in violation of the rule and we will do our best to rectify the situation.

Well, not only that, but sometimes we simply disagree that it's enough of a spoiler to warn or edit anyone.

Just because someone reports a post doesn't mean we will automatically agree that it's a violation of any particular rule. That's usually what happens when "five days go by." The mods disagreed with you that it was an actionable post.

In fairness though, in what way could the statement "Hey guys after watching SV's 100th epy in which featured the death of Johnthan" not be considered a spoiler???

Anyway, forget it all. Too late now. Let's just get on with making the forum the place to be with our posts and your moderation...

And apologies yellowqueen22 if you thought I'd not read the rules before posting, I did and the only rule which is close to what I put is rule #1:

1) Posting links to other message boards or other online communities is NOT allowed without permission
...
Anyone caught using our private message system or our userbase in order to harass other members, or actively recruit members for their own online communities - message boards, mailing lists, etc. - will be banned without warning.

As you can see, it only states using PMs to recruit members. I was merely gauging interest and had there been enough I was then going to go to ProudPenny with a proposal about putting up a post to invite people to a new forum (which wouldn't compete with K-Site, merely complement it), everything was going to be transparent.

I'm a moderator myself, I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't take into account another board's rules as a poster, I'm a right stickler for them. If anything, have I identified a loophole?

LexLuthorMetropolis

The Rule word for word:

1) Posting links to other message boards or other online communities is NOT allowed without permission from the moderators. Please DO NOT mention, link to, or post information including Spoilers from other unofficial web sites and message boards. This tends to upset other site owners, since we then inadvertently these sites tons of traffic their servers often can't handle. (Official movie and show sites are OK - "official" being defined as "approved and developed by the show/movie's production company." We will try to compile a list of sites that it is okay to link to a priori.

Drama, flamewars, controversy, irritants and other events that occur on other message boards aren't any concern to the Kryptonsite community. Please don't discuss them here!

Linking to personal sites such as your fan fiction page or LiveJournal is OK within the normal course of a discussion, but please don't create a thread just to advertise your personal site.

Anyone caught using our private message system or our userbase in order to harass other members, or actively recruit members for their own online communities - message boards, mailing lists, etc. - will be banned without warning.

Key to that subject comes down to active recruit any way, shape or form.
