View Full Version : The Dukes of Hazzard

This is not really my ultimate favourite - it does rank #1 in my top 3 - that honour goes to Smallville. The reason I love it is because it's... simple. No complicated fx (duh, it was made in 1979-1985) just big action (flying cars, fast driving cars, car chases) and two handsome lead actors. (Hey, hey, I though I might say it now - one of them can be seen on Smallville) And simple (but sometimes very stupid) storylines.

In the beginning I thought the theme song was very annoying and to my big surprise I began to love it after a month or so.
The General Lee is a special car - it's got a striking colour and with a large O1 on the doors that are welded shut AND the Confederate Flag painted on the roof you can't easily get the picture of this thing our of your head - and quite frankly you can also describe it as 'hot rod heaven' because the Dukes have spiced up the engine, listen to that sound!

Anyone likes/dislikes the series? What do you think about it? Is there anything other than the General that won't be forgotten?

I LOVE the Dukes of Hazzard - if someone else wasn't already going to beat me to it, I'd love to write a Dukes big screen movie. It was my first "favorite show" - I even have videotape of me and a friend pretending to be Bo and Luke when we were 5. Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane remains one of my favorite characters of all time... I used to know James Best years back but we lost touch.

I was very excited when John Schneider was cast as Jonathan because it meant he's in 2 of my favorite series! Here's hoping for a DVD release.

By the way, as a kid I thought "Yee-haw" was the magic word they said to make the car jump.. much like the "Turbo Boost" on KITT... oops!

I'm also desperately praying for a DVD release - and PLEASE let's have a region 2 release or I will never be able to play it on my pc/PS2!

That was great! Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider are both on my list of TV Shows that will be on my DVD shelf as soon as they start releasing complete seasons!

It's out on DVD! Volume One & Two! Region 2 for God's sake! Woo-hoo! If you don't believe - I'm pretty sure you won't at first, follow this link to Amazon.co.uk, type 'The Dukes of Hazzard' in the empty space for 'search', select 'DVD', click on 'search' and you'll see! (Really, it is there, keep on looking, I swear I saw it, a direct link to the page doesn't work, damnit)

When I was younger I loved the idea of climbing in and out of the windows on the General Lee! Unfortunately my parents didn't take to kindly to me doing that on my grandads old Ford Talbot :\

I already have Knight Rider (KITT *drool*) A-Team and Airwolf on my video shelf, so it's just a matter of time before the Dukes find its way there.

As long as my hubby doesn't find out.

I had no idea that John Schneider was a part of the famed "Dukes of Hazzard" until my father pointed it out. I was like, "Whaa!", as I used to watch that show a lot when I used to stay at my grandparents house over the summer when I was a kid.

LOL@Kittsbud

I used to love the Dukes! I used to get on swings and scream out YEEEHAA when I got up really high! It was the BEST kids show on t.v. when it was on! My dad hated it though. He didn't want me to watch it cause he thought i'd grow up and dress like Daisy Duke! LOL!

Errrr...heeee...I proved him right for a couple years there.

I remember watching the Dukes one time and my mom said to me, "I bet that the boy who plays Bo is gonna be in t.v. as a dad figure someday in the future."

I was only 10/11 and I just looked at her, then back at the t.v. and said, 'he's not a boy, mom! He's a grownup!'

But she was rite! Bo's a dad now!

I've always loved the Dukes Of Hazzard. I was 4 when it started, so I remember it's entire run. :) I have a 1/25 Scale General Lee! I Love it! :D

You say what I think, Rose_etta!

Hey, anyone interested in a DOH wallpaper?
I mixed some Dukes pictures together with the help of Microsoft Photo Editor. It's best you don't let it spread all over your screen, there should be an option to put in the centre of the screen. That's the best way to view it. If you like it, that is...

I know the them by heart, and I still have my General Lee with the Bo and Luke action figures that fit inside! I also have the little die cast car of the General Lee and Boss Hog's car, but most of the paint is chipped off them from rough play. I need to replace them. I loved this show! Never thought Daisy was that hot though. Well, maybe when I was a kid. Her face is too old looking though. And I hated those replacement Duke boys! Wasn't there a cartoon too?

The show really captured the charm of the south. It really is a charming place when racism isn't rearing its ugly head.

Unfortunately I was young and dumb when DoH reruns were on and I was "too cool" to watch an "old" show like that. Then about 2 years ago I saw an ep and was like, "Sweet." Now I can't even find reruns anywhere. Grrrr.

Dukegirl
02-15-2004, 10:05 AM
I was very lucky to have seen DoH. I live in Belgium and it came on TV for the very first time about a year ago. I've seen the first two or three seasons. They didn't show the episodes without Tom and John and the 1984-1985 seasons.
At first I thought - oh no, Southern accents! But then, just like you, KJK, I thought "sweet" and I was hooked.
Glad to see you appreciate the show!

I think the Dark haired Duke played Cybill Shepherd's first husband in Cybill didn't he?

Also i think that JS looked a little like Tom Welling when he was young except a blonde version. Simular smile.

Dukegirl
02-16-2004, 01:13 AM
He played someone named Jef Robbins, so that could be true - never seen "Cybil" before so I don't know. ( I read his filmography @ the IMDB :) )

It's true, JS looked like TW. Funny how some people also notice that :D

June 1, 2004 should make people who love this show quite happy.

I remember watching it when it first aired here, i was about 6 or 7 i think and i loved the car like crazy so about eight years ago i got me one.I sold it again a few years later (stupid) and i knew pretty fast that was a mistake so i told myself i'd get me another one someday and that someday is now, i've been saving for one since they showed it here again (yes Dukegirl you're not the only one from Belgium here, stom hé :-)
So in a month or two my new general will be here. When i saw the reruns i was quite surprised that it's such a fun show, regardless of the car, i had forgotten most of it and it's real over the top but nonetheless it's great fun to watch.I've heard some rumors there will be a new movie but with a new cast, like Starsky & Hutch.I'm not sure how that can work but i'm curious anyway.Does anyone know more about this?

I cannot believe there isn't a topic for one of my favorite shows of all time, here!

So for the love of Sheriff Rosco, I'm starting one.

I was just watching an episode on DVD last night... I love that the show was so formulaic a lot of the time, but it's still comfortable and fun now. The movie totally missed the point. The Dukes, at its core, was about family.... and even though the Dukes and Hoggs fought, they too were family in their own weird way.

This was a favorite show as a kid and I still love it now.

Same here. I used to watch it all the time. I have 3-4 of the DVDs (I'm waiting to get them for cheaper prices). I remember the toys I had also. The figures and the General Lee car were great.

I liked how as corrupt as Boss Hogg was, the Dukes still saved him when there were real bad guys who threatened him. Dammit, Daisy was hot as hell in those days.

I always liked the Dukes of Hazzard. I would watch it with my oldest-oldest brother. The only problem I had with it is every episode seemed exactly the same.

I'd get about halfway through the episode and get tired of watching it because the story would be played out and they'd drive in circles for 20 minutes.

Still a great show, though.

I recommend watching "The Graham Norton Show" on YouTube if you guys can - he had Wopat, Bach and Schneider all on last Thursday night and it's hilarious.

Schneider didn't half remind me of someone else from another show... ;)

I too had toys, I had a few General Lees and the Boss Hogg car. Was great Saturday evening telly when Who was off-season. Nowadays we have Robin Hood in that slot. Oh dear.

Randy G.
11-29-2007, 12:56 AM
I'll have to watch that episode of Graham Norton. He's always hillarious. I can only imagine what he would say to them.

Lol! When I was growing up, I never missed an episode. Me & my Dad were glued to the TV whenever it was on. I had the set of Matchbox cars, with the General Lee, Daisy's Jeep, Roscoe's cop car, Boss Hogg's car, & Cooters truck. My cousin Scott had the big sized General, with the action figures. I even had a Catherine Bach (Daisy) poster on my wall.
Come to think of it, I might still have my Dukes lunchbox. I'll have to look in the attic next time I visit Mom & Dad.

I was living in Durham North Carolina in the early 90's, and I met the guy who played Enos, at a celebrity golf tournament. He was really a nice guy.

I think there was a thread along time ago but it got barried so much now that when you search it doesn't show up it has happened with other threads they get barried and dissapear. I didn't like the dvds all the episodes are out of order on them so you cannot watch a whole season non stop in order wich I do with alot of shows I watch. If I am gonna spend my money on buying a tv show I can just watch reruns of on tv I want the episodes to at the very least be in the right order and hopefully have a few special features wich have been lacking in other dvds I have bought lately.

Her first car was a yellow 1974 Plymouth Road Runner with a black stripe along the sides and over the roof. Although the car was intended to be a Plymouth Road Runner, later episodes used a 1971 Plymouth Satellite with a matching "Road Runner" stripe painted behind the rear window. The car met its demise when the brakes failed while Bo and Luke were driving it in the second season episode "The Runaway," sending it over a cliff. Due to the episodes being broadcast in a different order to that of which they were filmed, the Plymouth made several returns after it was supposedly destroyed. After losing that car, she received her trademark white 1980 Jeep CJ-7 "Golden Eagle" named The Dixie which had a Golden Eagle emblem on the hood and the name "Dixie" on the hood sides.

One of my older brothers and I were so into the Dukes, for Christmas I bought him one of those air horns that played "Dixie" for his Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. It had several discs that had holes in them to play other tunes.

Later on they came out with an electronic version I bought for my motorcycle that you punched in a code to select a tune.
