I've been thinking of making this thread for a while though I never got the chance to, but here it is.

The thread dedicated to all RPG's and of course our favorite Final Fantasy series starting with 7. I have set up a poll to see which of the FF's you like the best. And please post away any coments about games and stuff.:D

Number 7 hands down
The game and sound track. Get Final Fantasy IIV the Reunion tracks it has Aeris Theme, Main Tittle and One Winged Angel all orchestral (sp). Mighty Cool.

8 was good though to.

A few years ago they rated all time best games. Number 7 came in on the top 10 (don't remember exactly which place). It consistantly rates in the top 20 on most magazines list of greatest games.

I agree, 7 is the best! I hear from a lot of people that ff8 is not the best. Personally I dont find the character Squall to interesting. I'd much rather have Red 13 you dig?:lol:

I would...but there are people who can argue that ten is good because of sound and crap. I personally hate HATE the fact that their is no character voices in 7!

I have never played a game as much as I have Final Fantasy 9. I voted 9. I just really love the sytems especially how the armor you collect is what gives you your powers and what not. The Chocob game was annoying at times but I loved how if you stayed with it, you could master the game early on. Not to mention your acess to Grand Dragons, one of the hardest enemies in the game in as early as disk 1. I always got to about level 60 in the beginning of disk2 just beating grand dragons.

i did like 10, but it was the one that got me started on all of them, thought that x-2 was lame and only bothered to finish it b/c it was a sequel to 10. plan on picking up 7 soon though. also has anyone played fable? that one is awesome, just not quite long enough.

I agree Sephiroth is incomparable!!! An I like how in 8 they have all these things realting back to 7. (clouds shop, etc.)

I love 9!!!!!I agree nine would be my secon pick! It has a kind of Dark Cloud theme going on. The armor thing does rock.:cool:

I love 10!!!!! But I hear that 10-2 lost its touch. It seems as though the people buying 10-2 are only buying it to not leave 10 as a cliffhanger. And I've heard of Fable though I haven't had the privilige to play it cause I dont have an xbox. I hear you can be a bad guy or a good guy.That sounds pretty cool.

I think Final Fantasy 7 was the hardest because it was longer and more confusing. With Final Fantasy 10 you know what you had to every step of the way.

You know what I like about Final Fantasy 7,I love how it's just so free will. On the third disc, when they break the barrier on the northern crater you can battle any of the weapons, chocobo race, chill out at the Gold Saucer, get all the limit breaks.

10 is just so controlled I hate that.

That's true, once I was done with the game. I saved it just before I fought Sephiroth (sorry for the mispelled) and use the Gameshark to have all limit breaks. It was fun lol.

I love playing with sephiroth but to bad we couldn't always playing with :(. But my two favorites were Red 13 last one I can't remember what it was called. Then I like cloud's Limit breaks also specially last one. lol can't remember what the last ones were called for both of them.

I really like it when you have a level 99 cloud and you do his omnislash on sephiroth. it does 9999 each hit. It's so hardcore!

Did you get the secret Masamune Blade?The one in which you have to beat all the weapons and get the thing at the speed section?

It's hard ass hell, and it takes a long time...but yes I did. You can at first only use it as a kind of Gun Blade for Vincent, but after I think 200 kills, you can use it with Cloud to.

Cheapest way to kill Sephirtoh: Knights of the Round,mime, quadramagik,mpabsorb :lol:

Knight's of the Round was the longest limit ever lol. But did you ever get the chocobo that could run across water?

The river one? Yep. You have to mate a good chocobo with a great one. And then give them a zeo nut and then they give you the blue one. But I personally ride my Gold Baby. She can cross the ocean!

Yeah. It takes a long time to get it, but it's totally worth it. This baby smokes all the chocobos at the races. It leaves them in the dust.

Which of the weapons did you find most challenging?

Yup the weapons, the hidden ones, Ruby weapon, emerald weapon, Diamond weapon.

I hate that *******! But I got the hang of it once i found out the secrets of beating him. You gotta come into the battle with two of your guys already dead. Then the ruby'll dig his claws into the sand and let you hit him. After that you gotta summon phoenix and then start the woopin.

So I'm guessing you know FF 10 better than ff7 at the moment huh?

Just found it, well see what happen's is this guy name Squall is on a military team. One of his friends turn against him when he was in battle with him to compete. Squall gave his friend a scar on his face and the other dude gave a scar on Squall face. They both had scars from each other's sword and that's when squall found out that his friend was turning evil. So now that was his rival and a powerful sorceress is trying to take over the World.

No this is a new World. I believe they all died except Red 13.

hmmm....that sux. Red 13 lives a long time even for his species. After that FMV at the end of ff7, my guess is he lives the max of about 5 more years. That's why I cant wait to see what happens after the destruction of the meteor.

That was interesting game. I enjoyed playing it. I really recommend playing Kingdom Hearts if you haven't already.\

It's great, they have most of the ff7 characters in it! You get to fight Yuffie, Squall, Cloud, and Sephiroth! O and you can talk to aeris. Its awesome!

played it all the way through just so that 10 wouldn't be left as a cliffhanger. after doing so i think that they would have been better off to have left it as a cliffhanger. i liked the battle system a little bit better but other than that they should have left well enough alone. the other rpgs i've played that were just mindblowing were knights of the old republic and fable.

Yeah I definetly agree that Fables entire storyline thing is brilliant. They had never done that before I dont think.

Yeah I love the Resident Evil series! You can call it a first person shooter but its still fun! If you haven't yet bought or played Kingdom Hearts, you should. I really recommend this game! It is the best game on ps2. Well the best rpg. It's great!

Gotta love Locke and Celes! I'm playing through it right now. I'm in Zozo.

I have an incomplete file on FFVII and FFIX right now too. FFVII is at Corel and FFIX is at Ipsen's Castle.

As for FFVIII, I love it. My favorite part of the game is everything after you get to Esthar. I love the last part of the game.

Ten was good. WAAAAAAY too easy. Ten-2 was great too. I'd be playing it right now, but I'm going for a 100% quest and I left my strategy guide at home. :(

Anyway, gotta say, that the Final Fantasy series is the best.

Kingdom Hearts was ok. I enjoyed hearing the voice acting, which was really good. I just can't make myself play through it again. Way too boring and monotonous.

I will be angry with Advent Children if they don't use the same voice acting as from KH. It took me long enough to associate those voices and I don't want to have it ruined. I like the fact that Mandy Moore was Aeris and Yuffie was Christy Romano. I forget who Cloud was and I know Sephiroth was a Backstreet Boy.

Final Fantasy VI is the best Final Fantasy game, in my opinion. So I chose other.

Man, I wish I saw this thread sooner...I absolutely love Final Fantasy games. When I get bored and there's no good games coming out I usally replay them. I'm replaying 8 right now.

It's so hard to pick a favorite Final Fantasy game...But I'd probably say 8 was my favorite, then 6, and then after that I can't pick. They're all amazing.

I can't really decide who I like more as a villain, Sephiroth or Kefka. Kefka was the man.

Kingdom Hearts was a great game...Anybody play Chain of Memories?

Chrono Trigger was also an amazing game...Chrono Cross was alright too, though not as good as Trigger.

They are amazing! I hear 8 isn't that good but I guess people do like it! I have played Chain of Memories but I dont really like it. I like how when you get 3 cloud cards and he does the omnislash. That's the coolest thing in the game. But ....

I think the rumor is that it has something to do with the controller.

Ya no doubt about square and Nintendo, FFCrystal Chronicles was a joke and a half. I wish Square would get back togther with Nintendo and do another Mario RPG. FFXII would be nice....:(

I hate ds. I believe its a waste of a lot of money. I would never waste 150 bucks on that junk. I think that the thing thats going to revolutionize handheld gaming is the PSP. I cant wait to buy it. You can watch movies listen to music and play games. And the graphics are out of this world!

I'm not too big on the PSP, it's cool and all, but its just like a game boy with amazing graphics. I don't really care about watching movies and listening to music on it.

Even though I don't have a DS, I'm more interested in it because its doing things that haven't been done before with a gaming system. So I have high hopes for the Revolution.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles wasn't too bad of a game if you played it with multiple people. I thought it was a lot of fun, though it didn't really deserve the "Final Fantasy" title.

Mario RPG was great, Paper Mario on the Gamecube is pretty good too, though not as good as Mario RPG was. I'd love it if Square and Nintendo teamed up on anything.

I'm worried about FFXII, it seems like they're taking the series in a comepletely different direction in this one...Though I think I've thought that before every new FF game came out and I loved every one of them. I think I'm more excited about Kingdom Hearts 2 than FFXII though.

Yahooooo! I can never find final fantasy threads and i luv, luv, luv the games! After charmed, they are my #1 obsession. I've only played 7, 8, 9, 10, X-2 and i own 4, 5, & 6 but haven't had the time to play them but i swear i will! My favourite is for some reason 9. I simply thought it was the most well rounded. The characters and plot were both good, the battle system was very traditional but still nifty and kuja was an awesome bad guy.

Can somebody explain to me though the moons of terra and gaia. I get that the Iifa tree was sending the souls to terra to fill the genomes but don't understand the moons significance. Garland ranted on in his speech to zidane but i didn't really follow. I'll post more thoughts later but let it be known i am ff obsessed! Glad to know i'm not the only one here. :D

Basically, The planet Terra has been doing this to planets for a very long time. They use their resources all up and what not, and then they do what they did to Gaia. They build the tree, take the souls, then the pattern starts all over again. They are basically trying to find away around self destruction, but haven't yet. 9 with Zidane was the only FF I could not really just get into. The graphics and the game it self are good but overall the charecters just did not do it for me. (Except Steiner did make me laugh at moments)

X-2 I actually enjoyed except for being so darn linear. Plus having to play the darn game over nad over to get the every ending. But over all it was a new direction and when I bought it i did not think i would like it at all. But being a fan of the series how could I pass it up? The all girl cast wasn't as corny as i thought it would turn out.
They really need to get away from the lead-me-down-a-path story telling. How frustrating is it that you can't see the whole end becasue you forgot to talk to some goof in the begining or you could not beat a timer the first time? The games them selves encourage me to play over an over again but playing to find every piece of the puzzle get tiring.

I agree that 9 was just one that was basically unplayable. That being said I beat it. Once done I realized I had just wasted 40+ hours of game time life I would never get back.

I'm gonna have to ask you to tap the break on 7 though. Was it really that great? It obviously was the first massive step from 16 to 32 bit...but I felt the story line just wasn't on par with earlier editions.

Yeah...that was Jecht, Tidus' dad...that was crazy...the whole thing was done really well.

That's what I loved about 10. Tidus figured out that the monster was his dad and that he could communicate with him.

7 for me ruled becasue of the tragedy in it along with the love story. You had many angles at work here.

Cloud:
Finding out his past was a lie
Almost killing his love then stopping just in time ot see her taken from him by a former idle.
The idle doesn't even give the time or day to thethough of the evil he has commited against him.

Tifa:
Unrequited love (sp)She wants to be with Cloud but knows she will always be 2nd to a memory but that still doesn't stop her.

Barret:
The fight has cost him his wife and his home town and is now fighting for his little girl.

Red XIII:
Learning the truth about his parents and how they really died.

Vincent: His love taken away and flat out refues him and give birth the monster that is Sephiroth. Plus he is atoning for all his past sins.

Yuffie: Comic relief and fights for her town to regain the honor and sense of pride through any means she can.

Cid:The death of a dream but his unwillingness to let go.

Aerith: Selfless in every way. She finds her true love yet leaves and ultimatly sacrfices her self for the planet and all she beleived in.

Cait Sith: Fighting against the evil the only way he can. Trying to make something of him self.

Sephirioth: Delusional in a way you really don't see in most games. I dont think he was the ultimate bad @ss that every one claims but he is evil thorugh indiffernce.

Then there are other like the Turks and such who really kinda bring it together with a comic relief.


Now FF 10 was good but the charectars lacked allot of depth that these had IMO. While Tidus fighting his dad was tragic it still didn't grip me like the other story did. Tidus goes on through out the stroy on how he hates his dad but in the end he comes to love him?
The saddest part of the whole story was the Yuna-Tidus angel. Where she finally admits she loves him and passes right through him while powerful, the death of Aeirth was ultimatley more tragic and with a greater cause IMO. Plus the music for FF 7 was awesome. The game designer ( can't and won't attempt to spell his name) came out a few years later and said that the whole game it self was a grieving process for his mother who he had just lost.

Most of the FF games are getting away from the deep charecter devolpment that they showed in 7. While good and entertaining just not there.

9 was to childish. The FF series has a loyal following and fan base of older fans. While Children grow up to appreicate a game adults can't really go in reverse IMO and grow to love a childs game espcially when the series took a mature over tone.

Cid:The death of a dream but his unwillingness to let go.

Aerith: Selfless in every way. She finds her true loe yet leaves and ultimatly sacrfices her self for the planet and all she beleived in.

Cait Sith: Fighting against the evil the only way he can. Trying to make something of him self.

Sephirioth: Delusional in a way you really don't see in most games. I dont think he was the ultimate bad @ss that every one claims but he is evil thorugh indiffernce.

Then there are other like the Turks and such who really kinda bring it together with a comic relief.


Now FF 10 was good but the charectars lacked allot of depth that these had IMO. While Tidus fighting his dad was tragic it still didn't grip me like the other story did. Tidus goes on through out the stroy on how he hates his dad but in the end he comes to love him?
The saddest part of the whole story was the Yuna-Tidus angel. Where she finally admits she loves him and passes right through him While powerful the death of Aeirth was ultimatley more tragic and with a greater cause IMO. Plus the music for FF 7 was awesome. The game designer ( can't and won't attempt to spell his name) came out a few years later and said that the whole game it self was a grieving process for his mother who he had just lost.

I see where you are coming from Chi...but I guess I also had problems with the fact that Square rushed 7...I remember reading that Aerith wasn't supposed to stay dead...Regardless though, no one can complain that Square is just top notch in their FF franchises.

11 was a complete waste of time...Final Fantasy has never been about a MMORPG...that completely went away from the principles that have been instilled and loved by these games.

Ok...which was the better minigame:

Blitzball in FF10 or Chocobo Raising in FF7.

You get Knights in 7 but you get certain limit breaks that are integral to certain charcters in Blitzball...(me straddling the fence :D)

I loved Blitzball so much more but I guess in the end to me Knights made it all worth it.

Chrono Trigger and FF6 are by far the best RPGs of all time, that is if you favor story and gameplay over eye candy. It's hard for me to pick one over the other, but i have to pick Chrono Trigger as my favorite because of the gameplay. I loved the Tech attacks, and the fact that you could complete the game with the main character DEAD was just so damn cool. Last FF game i beat was 7, my memory card failed on the last stage in FF8 and i got pissed and never played it again. FF9 was boring to me, and by the time 10 came out, I never had the time to really devote to RPGs anymore, so I'm not even close to done. Now on the subject of FF7, how in the world do you beat that ultimate weapon thing in the bottom of the ocean, 3rd disk? I swear i would hit that thing with knights of the round, mimic another KOTR, hit it with ominishlash, and repeat again and again, and i could NEVER kill it! ARRRGH

oh, and on the issue of the DS, wait until more games come out for it, cause i have it and the only good game out is mario64, but i LOVE it though, the minigames are great, and the game works well even without the analog.

Chris I am and avid fan of Xenogears on PS. That was such an amazing game with Fei and his schizophrenia through the torture and all.

Xenosaga I really loved, I enjoyed where the story was taking us, but was dissapointed with the Gears/Mechs in the game. It came to a point where they were never really needed and the upgrades were to uniform IMO. That being said, I haven't played Xenosaga 2 yet, but I will KOS-MOS was an amazing character. It is just disappointing that TPTB couldn't procure the same Voice Over actress for KOS-MOS from the first game.

Yes Snake I am as well dissapointed with how they portrayed the mechs. The AGWS. They are pretty useles at a point.

And yes Snake Corda you should play or replay FF7 if you haven't already. It's the best game out of them all. I give my props to 10.

You must understand that thanks to the inferior 3rd party memory cards made for PS back in the mid 90's, my will crumbled on FF7. Nothing like corrupted data on your primary AND backup file when you are loading from the end of disc 2 to disc 3!!

Final Fantasy 7 was the best hands down, but I really like final fantasy XI, i play that all the time now, is very adictive, and the good thing is that there is so much you can do in the game, it never gets old.

And these are things that are needed to make a good game. It needs to have a good story and good graphics. If you have those two, you have a great game.

Well the chances of that happening are 1/50. Sony announced that they would only make the remake if the PS3 was compatible with some program they used to create the original. And even if the old program is compatible with the new one, they're is still a maybe in the middle of that sentece.

My personal Reccomendations would aim for Twisted Metal for now. Untold legends which is the only RPG is a real dissappointment. I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECCOMEND you wait for FIFA soccer which comes out April 5, 2005. It looks absolutely mindblowing.

yea man it looks mindblowin but i bet it will be crap no football game compares to pro evolution, the psp isnt out over here yet ur lucky to have 1 im all jealous now i have been itchin to get 1 all we have over here is the new nintendo ds but i didnt wanna chance buying it to be crap

That machine is crap period. You wait for the PSP bro. You wont be dissapointed by the wait. The graphics compare to the PS2 and the widescreen provides greater viewing and a for greater experience overall.

im defo gonna take your advice and wait good job im patient yea ive seen the screen it looks amazing it looks without a doubt like the best handheld gaming machine i have seen i heard it was hard on the batteries but i guess that doesnt really matter u can just recharge i guess i was thnkn of getting the street soccer for the ps2 but i got metal gear 3 instead i had that finished in 2days but it still was a great game the creator hideo kojima i thnk his name is he always makes metal gear like a movie its all dramatic but hell i like that kinda stuff in games

Good Choice in choosing Metal over Street Soccer. And I definetly agree that the PSP has revolutionized the entire handheld gaming. Listening to music, playing movies, playing games! That's just wild!

BTW refer to list above for game choices. I believe there will be more games out by the time it comes out wherever you live. You can also wait for Grand Theft Auto which is destined to come out in the US in about another two months.

Sorry guys for taking so long to write back. My favorite FF is 10, followed closely by 2 and 3. Now if we are talking all time Square RPG's...it is undoubtedly Xenogears on PS1. Then FF10...and so on...plus Chrono Trigger in there...

I really dont recommend Need For Speed. In fact I dont reccomend it period. I hear really bad things about it. I hear it'sw just a disaster. And you'll get bored of it after like two days.

Untold Legends looks pretty bad. The gaming part of it is okay I guess. The graphics are bad but the gaming is good. I would buy this.

Metal Gear Speaks for itself. Buy it. I'm not to into the whole first person shooter thing exept like Resident Evil.:p

But again I really recommend thah you not buy Need For Speed.

Yes listen to Snake Corda, get FIFA or better, get Twisted Metal, FIFA, and Untold Legends. I would get those three if I had the money.:\
