Over here in England, the most frustrating thing is having to wait for Smallville to air while you Americans wallow in Season 4. So, on discovering that Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut doesn't come out till the 15th over there, I thought I'd just take the oppertunity to say HA! That's been in my collection for months now! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha h........ah, it's no good. I'd trade it for Season 4 any day of the week. Well, here's looking forward to next weeks ep with the flash in....

And by the way, the DVD rules. Don't think it's just the deleted scenes from the original re-inserted - there's a whole bunch of really cool stuff in it, new FX shot's etc. Plus there's a few deleted scenes that weren't on the old DVD. And if the packaging's the same over there, there's a really cool hologram type picture on the front. Finally a box worthy of containing Donnie Darko. Enjoy!:)

I can't wait to see the director's cut. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, but probably won't have a chance to watch it til this weekend. I really enjoyed it to begin with and I think this can only make it even more enjoyable. I also think this is one I'm going to watch the commentary on. Should be great. Thanks for rubbing in the fact that you 've already got it though -ronald- Sorry about your season 4 wait. Don't worry, it's worth the wait;) .

I HEAR its not as good, like the changed some of the key music and stuff, which makes it less special.... I HEAR, i wont get it cause i already have the original. they should have released all at once, instead of trying to take my money... wiat what ? why am i so angry.

i like the cover art

Who the hell is Donny Darko? I keep hearing about this movie but I haven't the foggiest as to what it's about.

Donnie Darko is only perhaps the single craziest awesomest movie ever. I cant even explain to you the plot becuase you should just go out now and buy it and watch it like its your job.

I hope the directors cut still as mad world playing at the end. That song creeped the hell out of me and the end of the movie. I loved it.

Yes, they still have Mad World at the end. And seriously, it is definetely worth getting even if you have the original. There's so much more going on with this film. The music score has been changed, but I don't think it changes anything important. The song at the very beggining is different, and at the halloween party but other than that the songs are the same.

see one of the best things IMO was the song in the begining

I most definitely agree. It is worth checking out if you liked the first version. It only enhanced it and made it better in my opinion. Even if you don't buy it you should rent it. Plus there is all the added extras and commentary.

Ignore any review you find. I've never found one that comes close to telling you what this is actually about. On first viewing, you still won't know what it's about. Figuring out that is the whole point.

This movie has gotten too much credit in my opinion.

I watched, thought it was ok, pretty funny in parts, but too weird for me to recommend to anyone.

When I first saw this film I was speechless. I was moved. It kinda sorta reminded me of the feeling I had after I saw Jacob's Ladder for the first time.

Also, has anyone else noticed that the song used during the last scene of Donnie Darko is the same song used in Visage where Lana tells Clark that Whitney's dead?

Yes! :D

A few weeks ago I was at some friend's house and "Mad World" was on. So I said "Mmm, where did I hear this song...."
And he said "That's from Donnie Darko!!"
And I was like "Sure..." (I hadn't seen it yet) But when I told him it was from Smallville, HE was "umm....sure"

By the way the part that cracked me up was when they talked about the Smurfs :rotfl:

(I'll definately have to tell Ferd.....)

I personally am in love with the strange and complex storyline of Donnie Darko. I think it's good that Richard Kelly made the film so you had to watch more than once in order to fully understand what's going on in the story.

Donnie Darko is my favourite all-time individual movie -- it is just ultimate!

So I'm resurrecting this thread to see if we can get some Darko discussion going. I rewatched both the director's cut and original back-to-back recently, and while I really like that the story is explained better in the DC, I'm very upset with some minor changes, like the omission of "Under the Milky Way" from the Halloween scene and the lack of the "googly eyes" when he looks into Gretchen's "spear". I'd have to say that I prefer the original, but if I was going to show this movie to someone who doesn't like having to rewatch movies to "get" them then I'd show them the DC.

And "Mad World" remains one of my favorite songs ever.

Is it just me or did anyone else not get what was going on in the DC with Donnie's eyes? I listened to the audio commentary with the director and Kevin Smith and it's the only reason I got it.

I didn't think I'd like this movie, but after I saw it I loved it, and became more of a Jake Gyllenhaal fan.

It's one of my favorites.
