Oh man, thatīs no good news. Iīve only seen very little of him, but Iīve noticed he was a very fun man and understand how he qualified to host a talkshow. As a matter of fact, I had no idea whether he was dead or alive until now. This must be a sad day for comedians all over America.

It's unfortunate that the year has only begun and we have already lost another legend.

This is very sad. He was the best late night talk show host ever.

I remember staying up on Friday nights and watching him and laughing all the time. Karnak was my favorite skit that he did. He always had a way to make that skit funny and the jokes never seemed forced or stale. And the way that he interacted with guests was amazing. Weither it was a comedian, laughing and joking with them or a serious guest and handleing it very professional.

He will be missed :(

i never actually knew who he was. i had heard his name a few times but never really knew exactly what he did. then today (when i was watching the weather channel to see if my school was closed for tomorrow -which it is yay!) there was a breaking story and the news station did a whole 20 minute program on it. i watched it and he seemed like such an amazing man. i just wish that i was around (old enough) to watch him on television.

He was truly the greatest late night host of all time!!! There will NEVER be another like him! I have the honor of being old enough to remember him and missed him when he retired! The word "Legend" is truly applicable to him!
Goodbye Johnny.... you will be missed!

I would imagine with todays 24 hour cable, satellite and worldwide net,its hard for some to imagine how big Johnny was back in the 60s-70s.I used to be late for school alot cause i stayed up to watch the tonight show-even had to go to the vice-principles office-i still remember her being slightly ammused when i told her my reason for my tardiness.LOL.Also back then-u couldnt really see 'nightclub acts' anywhere except Carson. When Don Rickels or Rodney Dangerfield were on-it was classic! And everyone looked forward to Carnak!May the waters of the river Gangees backflood in your sisters pantyhose-a classic carnak line i'll never forget!RIP Johnny.

I used to love watching his show when I was growing up. I was in high school when he retired and remember that being such a big event.
I've missed seeing him since his retirement, but I hope he enjoyed his retirement. It's sad to hear that a true legend has died.

Jay Leno must be heartbroken. Carson made Jay a star by giving him The Tonight Show, and without him he'd would probably still be doing standup at local clubs.

RIP Johnny:(

I gotta remember to watch Leno tomorrow night. I'm sure he's going to have something about Johny on the show.

The Today Show segment today ended with Johny's last show.... the one where Bette Middler sang to him. Was really nice to see.

Yeah, Johnny Carson was a great comedian. He made me laught so hard on the Tonight show. I like Jay Leno too, but theyll never be another Johnny. Im not positive, but I think NBC wanted Leno, but Johnny wanted Letterman to take over after him. Can anybody verify that?

He was kind of funny he used to do comedians wrong though after they performed he either let them come to the couch which was a honor or he shooed them away. On Stern they played a roast he did and he had some jokes about gays-you would never think that but those roast can get really vulgar.

I think that was right. Carson wanted Letterman, I remember that much, But I'm not sure as to whether Leno went to the studio heads wanting the job or if the studio heads just wanted him and approached him.

I always wanted to see Carson make a visit to the tonight show. Do a guest monologue and perform a bit with Leno. Now that would have been funny. Heck, a visit to Letterman show would have funny too.

He was on Letterman-i think it was 98-i saw a clip of it last night.
Dave was about to read the top 10 list-couldnt find the cards-said"Can someone bring me the cards-oh Johnny"-then the tonight show theme started playing and he came out.He sat behind Daves desk and Dave sat in the guest chair, but only for a few seconds then he walked right off stage.

I was going to make a thread on this, & just call it "Carson Dies", & see how many teenage girls would get upset, thinking it was Carson Daly.

It is a very sad day. I loved watching Johnny, as I was growing up. My favorite times were always when he had Joan Embry from the San Diego Zoo , or Jim from Wild Kingdom on, with all of those animals & reptiles. I loved that. Goodbye Johnny. :)

I think I read somewhere that Johnny Carson still fed David Letterman jokes for his show (since I guess they were great friends) Curious to see if he will be notibly missed on the Late Show with David Letterman.

Amazing what a great career he had..all the tribute shows are interesting.

That was a beautiful tribute on Leno. Great to laugh after losing one of the greatest comedians ever. It's what Johnny would have wanted, I bet you.

I have his last tonight show on tape somewhere. I wonder if there are any DVD collections of his show for sale anywhere?

I'm very sad about Johnny's passing. He was a real comedian's comedian, not only entertaining us with his show but also providing a jumping off point for more comics than I could possibly name here. I only vaguely remember watching Johnny's show as a child, because I'm only 22. However, I've always loved the clips I've seen, and I wish those old shows could be played in rerun.

We'll miss you, Johnny. Thanks for the laughs.
