I'm saying sorry to the mods and admins ahead of time for this not being Smallville related. I wanted to know if anyone in the U.S. heard about that school that got its dances cancelled by the principal because of "freak dancing".

Well I think its hip grinding on the (I have no idea if I can say this) pelvic region...

Why did you know this thread was in the wrong place but still continue to post it? There is the option of exiting the window......

it should be in the Discussions forum. Maybe one of the mods can move it there. We'll I think the principal is somewhat right. I mean this is a public school, and a formal no doubt. there should be some guidelines. Its not a private party. It wont be the first or last time it will happen.

I agree the Principal is some right right in doing it. There is a matter of taste and discretion that should be used. But then again my taste and my definition of class is most likely way different than a 16 year old kid.

But on the other hand it is just dancing and a freedom of expression. When the clothes start coming off then start to worry.

My school didn't allow dances. Talk about Footloose. It was also a crime to dance within city limits until a few years ago. It's a really religious area and mostly made up of retired citizens. It was so boring and we had a lot of teenage pregnancy, drugs and other crimes, I think it was because it was so stifling and strict and everyone seemed to expect the worst of all of the students, so they didn't disappoint.

holy crap welling wisher!

please, the've been dancing like that since forever over here, but not like grinding on couches as discribe in the article. there are certain ways to dance when you're at you school, save the grinding and dry humping for the clubs.

Side note: i always thought it was odd at the end of footloose that all these kids new like the lastest dances, and some where break dancing, i can understand if some went out of town but still all of them?? (im jokin by the way)

I can speak from personal witnessing experience that when the kids were finally allowed to dance in my hometown, they did not know the latest dances and it was scary. Bad (not dirty, but bad Clark dancing) is probably best when banned.

haha I lost my v-i-r-g-i-n-i-t-y at the homecoming dance my freshman year. I'm not talking about in some hotel room or something, I'm talking about in the teacher's lounge down the hall from the lunchroom where the dance was being held.

It's harmless dancing. No big deal.

 I went to high school in a very strict & conservative community, but they still let us dance, if that's what you want to call it.

I mean you could argue that no actual dancing takes place...where is the waltz & fox trot & other actual dances?

At my school it was
1. mostly moshing &
2. being draped all over each other &
3. a few where in the regular arms length apart ballroom stance that just rocked around in a circle.
(think Napoleon Dynamite )

No actually dancing took place

Most high schools in the UK don't have dances!! It's unusual for them to have one. University's have what we call a "Ball", which is similar to a "Prom", but it is only a University thing.

Really, it depends on the kind of Dance it is. A formal dance isn't meant for what our young adults and teenagers do today. If it was a less formal dance, then the principal would've went a little too far, maybe. I wasn't there, so I couldn't make the right decision myself. But formal dances, are meant to be formal.

you can't really do those things when you're in a formal event, you know how hard it is to bend over and rub your bum against anything!!!

but that's stupid to cancel prom

are you kidding me, this is the most stupid thing ever. At the end of our homecoming a few month ago there were panties, shirts and bra's layn on the middle of the floor. we dance 'dirty' and 'freaky' ...but we still have dances ...actually we have winter homecoming next friday. :)
