UNC also spanked Georgia Tech too. The ACC seems a little top heavy..
Congrats to the Canes for their second ACC victory, with a nice win against UVA! Better watch out Duke, your next! and after that, Miami is going to do to UNC's B-ball team what UNC's football team did to Miami..

Auburn's not doing so hot. 0-2 in conference play. At least we have football.
Looking at the breakdown in Miami's two conference wins, they shot a .471 in FGs, while in their loss to GT, shot a .37 in FG's.. The lesson being, if Miami could make more or their shots, they could have beaten GT. Now to keep the streak going against FSU

You might be my new best friend :D
FSU-Miami at Halftime: 32-31. FSU has led the game most of the half, but Miami might be ready to surge ahead. Miami has been shaky from 3-pt land, only 2/11 and the 37% FGs is not good enough to win... We'll see how the next half goes..

I remember when FSU rocked in B-Ball, Sura was the man along with Cassell.
The ACC is rediculous this season. Maryland has been spanked but can still make the sweet 16.
Its too bad Illinois will have the better record this season.
As long as Duke doesn't win, Ill be happy.
FSU-Miami Final : 63-64, Miami edging out FSU. Nice game, but Miami still needs to work on the FG%. Dont look now, but Miami has gone from finishing last in the Big East, to being 4th in the ACC...
If they can finish in the middle of the conference, it will be a huge improvement for Miami's program over last year.

Wow, Kentucky was almost upset by Ole Miss, currently ranked #5 in the SEC West.
Duke beat Miami 92-83. Well played by Miami, but Duke is definitely a great team this year. At least no blow-out.. Miami had a 45% FG, but is hard to beat a team that shot 61%. Great game for both teams.

Hey, who else beat Wake Forest? Florida State. And who beat Florida State? thats right! Miami! and who has Wake Forest beaten? UNC!!, so then, Miami should beat UNC!
Well, Miami has played in the first half, their worst game of the year versus UNC... shooting only 31% FG and committing 13 personal fouls. Obviously, Miami has some adjustments to make.
Well, Miami: still playing aweful... At least this is against UNC, a premier team... but still, we are looking like FSU against Duke!

Yesterday, Miami had a disappointing loss to Wake Forest.. The ACC is not as good as usual this year. Youve got Carolina, Duke, and Wake. Miami, State, and Maryland are mediocre and have the ability to scare some top teams, but Florida State, Virginia, V-Tech, and Clemson are not that good. Its funny. Illinois basically blew their entire season. What a waste.
Happy for UNC, though... and their coach.

It was not a waste. It was the best season in the schools history. I can't believe you just said that.

There is no shame in losing in the finals of any tournament. Those kids worked hard and maybe they don't have a trophy, but to call their season a waste is just crazy.

Congrats to all of the UNC faithful! It's nice to see Roy Williams finally win the National Championship.
37 wins and appearing in the final game is definately not a waste. It only adds to benifit recruiting and scholarships.

So disappointed in Illinois' loss...this was OUR year.
But I guess I have to look at the positive side of things, I'll never forget this years basketball team for the rest of my life. Watching all these games was great times here at U of I. Our team did amazing, and I guess the good memories is all I can ask for.
Being out on the streets after the victories and after the final loss was an amazing sight to see.
Even though the Illini lost, it was still an amazing ride.

Perhaps it comes from my being a young (21) New York Yankees fan and not being so used to losing as all the people from Illinois. As far as I'm concerned, second place is just the first loser. Illinois blew the perfect season by losing to a team they should have destroyed. Illinois then lost in the Finals. Maybe this is a really great thing that will give the program some national attention and get kids to want to go there.... I dunno. But where I come from, they're just the best losers.
Wow... easily the most offensive post I've ever written.
P.S. - Above was actually a shot at the Cubs fans... I realize y'all in Illinois had some pretty amazing years with the Bears, a historic run with the Bulls (Jordan owned my Knicks), and even the Blackhawks.

I'm not an Illinios fan by any stretch of the imagination. I'm a fan of sport and accomplishment. To me, it's not always about who wins or loses, it's fun and a love for the game. Sure losing feels like crap, for a day. Winning feels great, until the next game. It may be no secret to anyone what team I support in the college ranks. Auburn's Football team went 13-0 without a chance for the National Title. Now I will always say that team deserved a chance to play for the title, but that now is a mute point. Some say not getting a national championship ruined our season. I feel bad for those people. They forget that this was the best season in school history, ever. They forget it was our first conference title in 15 years. They forget it was the first time we ever won the SEC Title game. They forgot how fun of a ride it was. Sport is not just about winning games. It is about dedication, accoplishment, sacrifice, being humble in victory and being gracious in defeat. For some teams, all they ever win are emotional victories, ones the scoreboard can never measure. We should never say a season was a lost cause, especially one in which so much was amazing. As UNC celebrates their National Title, Illonios too can celebrate having the best season in school history, ever. And the rest of us should rethink why we watch the game. Is it for love, or is it to win? If it is the latter, I feel sorry for you.

I picked UNC to win 72-70 over Illinois at the beginning. First time I've gotten lucky.

Bob Knight put it best... Someone's got to lose, but it doesn't have to be me.
Yes, it is for the love of the game. But I don't love losing and neither does anyone else. If I played the game and someone from the future came back in time and told me that I'd never win, I would quit. It's about the love of the game. It's about competition. It's about striving to be the best. If you strive to be the best and then fail, despite your accomplishments, you have still failed.

I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say the out of context thing... but as far as the Yankees thing is concerned. Yes, the Yanks lost and they lost to Boston. They didn't win. In New York, that season is a failure. In New York, no one cheered them for losing in 7 games to the team that eventually won the World Series. No one in New York takes pride in the fact that Boston bested us. To every New York Yankee fan in existence, that season was a total and complete failure only compounded by the fact that Boston won.
And it was not out of context at all. It was giving you the basis for my opinion. As a Yankee fan, I have grown up with certain expectations. With 4 recent Championships, following the most successful professional sports franchise in North American history, there are certain expectations for our team. We expect to win. When we lose, we consider it a failure.
So, be proud of Illinois all you want. Be proud of what they accomplished and be proud that they got as far as they did. You think Pat Summit and her Tennessee team are thrilled at all they accomplished? No. That team is a total and complete failure. Why? Because their season means nothing without a National Championship. This is what I'm saying when I bring up the Yankees. For a team that is used to winning, and whose goal is a Championship at the beginning of each year, LOSING equates to failure. To me, the whole idea that Illinois should be satisfied with what they accomplished is sickening. They LOST. They were the number one team in the country and they LOST.
Feel sorry for me all you want. I feel sorry for them. They are the one's who have to go to bed at night knowing they lost.

Of course there has to be a loser for every game, and it sucks to be that loser, but that's not the measure of success. There are 64 teams in the Tournament. There are over 200 teams total that play Division 1 Basketball. Do not tell me those teams are all losers. It's not true. You cannot always be the best, and that's not the right goal to reach for. Only one team can take home a national title. And that's great, but every day struggles are just as important. Wisconsion - Milwakee beat two giants, Alabama and someone else I can't remember at the moment. What they did was amazing. They lost eventually, we all do. But that doesn't take away what they accomplished. One game does not define a season. One season does not define a program. You are no more than a fairweathered fan, an offense to sport.

Do you use your hands or a shovel to dish out that sanctimonious garbage? I don't need a lecture on the meaning of sport from you thank you very much and I certainly don't need your false pity.
1: We're not talking about UW-Milwaukee. We're not talking about an underdog with a nothing program doing the improbable. We're talking about the #1 team in the country for a large majority of the season, undefeated until their very last regular season game, who choked when it counted not ONCE, but TWICE.
2: A fairweathered fan is a fan only during the up times and I resent the implication that I am one. I am a proud New York Knicks fan and they stink butt. I am a proud New York Rangers fan and they stink even worse. I am a proud New York Giants fan and they, although on the rise, have been pathetic for the passed two seasons. The bright spot of last season was Eli Manning just walking onto the field. Are there goals for teams that don't necessarily involve winning? Yes, absolutely, but a loser is still a loser.
I honestly can't see why you have a problem with this or why you are so offended. The only thing I can think of is that you are incapable of seeing the grim reality... that winning really is the most important thing when it comes right down to it. People don't go to games to see their team lose and people who come away thinking "Well, that was a great effort" are just using that as a way to deal with the fact that they did. There is nothing wrong with that. One has to be able to move on and rebound and that is part of what defines the strength of people. People who can overcome adversity are people to be looked up to. If you lose one year, that should only strengthen your resolve to come back next year and devote yourself to taking the next step. Or, for those graduating seniors, you should use your experience to help you overcome adversities you face in life.
I'm not saying that to be a loser is some horrible brand on a person's forehead and these people should be shunned like lepers. But I am saying that they fell short. Professional athletes have lost their bids into the Hall of Fame because they never won a Championship. A winner is valued above all else in sports. This is a fact of life. Get over it and yourself.

Backward Galaxy, you really need to think about your comments. You said Illinois should have destroyed Carolina. Huh? Yeah Illinois had a great season and should be commended for that. There coach is top notch and if they were playing anybody but my Tarheels, I would have pulled for them, but to say they should have destroyed UNC is just stupid. It all comes down to who plays better in that one game. UNC had a great game plan put together by Roy Williams and his assistants. They new that Illinois had no one who could stop Sean May and if May played the way he is capable of playing they would win. The fact is Carolina shot better that Illinois and played there but off on defense. Way to go Heels! And congrats to Illinois on a great season.

Yeah Carolina could be playing in the NIT or worse next year if Felton, May, and Marvin Williams leave with McCants. Plus they lose Jawad and Scott to graduation. One good thing is that Chris Paul is leaving Wake (bad idea), so maybe we can atleast beat them. Oh well, until then: THE TARHEELS ARE #1 BABY!!!!
