I was watching the roswell season two christmas special and came to the part where liz asks max why he saved all those kids and then says he shouldnt do it again because it's not right to mess with god.
The guy just saved a room full of kids dying of cancer and she's telling him off for it...
but the weird part is, with shiri i didnt feel angry about it, i actually understood why she said it a felt sympathy for the both of them.
If KRISTEN had given those lines as lana in smallville after clark had saved a bunch of kids with cancer i probably would have been veeeeerrrrry angry
so it really must be the actress that bugs me the most.
Who bugs you the most and maybe quote a few lines

Mischa Barton.
A horrible actress and appears to be a less than stellar person as well. Oh, and her voice is annoying.

Oh I hope the rumors about her being Lois Lane are not true. She would suck.
But then Brian Singer did pick Halle Berry to play Storm.

I can't believe Mischa Barton wasn't put on this poll. The girl can't act her way out of a wet paper bag. She's about 10 times worse than KK.

My thoughts exactly.
I recently heard about her and Kate Beckinsale being the finalist for the role of Lois in the movie.

I voted for Kristin Kreuk because Mischa Barton wasn't on the poll.
Mischa Barton makes Kristin Kreuk look like an Oscar worthy actress. I can't STAND Mischa Barton. She's the worst actress on television, her voice bugs the hell out of me, and she needs to eat something.
It's not so much Kristin that I find annoying, just her acting and her character.

Lana Lang is the most annoying girl on tv right now. That girl can't see beyond herself and refuses to except any personal responsibility for her actions, it always seems to be everyone elses fault but hers.

got to agree with Misha Barton from the OC - she is very annoy but how could anyone forget Joey from Dawson's Creek portrayed by the annoying Katie Holmes. For some reason the lead female characters are never good, and I have to wonder if its the actresses or the writers fault. In the case of KK and the other 2 I'll go with the acting skills or lack of, that are to blame.

I dont know how you can say that, Kristin is one of the main characters in Smallville, plus she is one of the reasons why people watch the show, to get on a such a great TV series is one hard job, so don't go knocking KK's ability to act. I think she is doing a great job and I wish her all the best.
ColumbiaBlue412

Maybe she's one of the reasons people START watching the show, but she's certainly not KEEPING the viewers tuned in. Smallville's ratings are plummeting and, while she's not to blame, it's blatently obvious that TPTB's are using her to reel in viewers. All of Lana's nudity, the girl on girl kiss, the tattoo on her back, the friggin Witch episode ripped right off from Charmed... They are pimping KK and Lana to get people to watch and it's not working.
Maybe if Lana had a a soul, some character, hell, a PERSONALITY, and KK did a better job of selling her character then maybe, people would stay.
I voted for KK/Lana, not because of KK, but just because of Lana.. I honestly wanna rip off her head and kick it off to Metropolis.
Mischa Barton.. *runs off and gags*

People tend to always dislike the leading ladies. People dislike Kate from LOST and the show only been on for 11 episodes.
Also Lois from Lois&Clark was also disliked by the viewers of the series.
It's just a common trend that happens with leading ladies.
That's okay though, the leading ladies are usually the ones who actually get jobs after the tv series ends while the supporting characters and even the male leads don't even see the light of day after the series ends.
And I have to agree with Mischa Barton, by far the worse. I'm open minded with characters and actors/actresses and she just doesn't let me win her over...ever.
They are pimping KK and Lana to get people to watch and it's not working.
Nothing about this season is working, they've been pimping Tom shirtless in about every episode trailer and yet the ratings continue to decrease.
If Tom and Kristin who get a lot media coverage and are very nice to look at aren't able to bring people in to watch this horrible series then no other cast member can regardless what some may think.

I think that you have to differentiate between the actress and the character that they portray. KK seems intelligent and down to earth in interviews and such. I think its good when people love to hate a character because it provokes emotion.

i think your making a true point... most leading ladies are hated... thats what this thread is pretty much about
but ask youself why?????
it's because of a vicous circle... people expect beautiful leading ladies... it's hard to find some that can act... therefore lack of talent is a second priority
and to smallville 2004
i also wish her the best... but she said in an interview she wants to pursue a caree in criminal psychology so i wish her the best in that
I cannot believe that Charisma Carpenter is on this poll at all! She is an great actress, and the character of Cordy could never in a million years be annoying! Cordy is strong, independant, smart, witty, and one might actually risk to say that she is a perfect role model for young girls!
In many ways Cordy was so much more belivable than Buffy, who has become so annoying in the last few years of ´Buffy´, not that she was such a great character to begin with!
Faith from Buffy did bug the hell out me, but I did like her in Angel!
Yeah, and Sarah from ´The Dead Zone´ needs to realize that Johnny isn´t at her beg and call! Plus she is a married woman for God sake! She needs to leave Johnny in her past...
I miss Dana! She was great for Johnny!
But Lana, bugs me most of all! To no end in fact!

If you were on the internet back in the day when Lois&Clark was on the air you would had seen there was a anti-Lois Lane following on the web.
I'm not trying to diss Teri's Lois because I agree she is by far the best Lois Lane, my personal favorite!
I'm just trying to prove a point that about every leading lady has a anti following in one way or another.
It comes with the job. :rotfl:

Every character on t.v. has an anti-fan following. LOL The only reason leading ladies get the brunt of it is because they are the girls TPTB's have deemed the next "it" girl and they shove them down our throats so they can get publicity and recgonition.
And for the most part, there aren't too many leading ladies that I *haven't* liked. I was one of the few people who liked Joey Potter from Dawson's Creek. Yeah, she was annoying sometimes but I thought she was sweet and I like Katie Holmes. I didn't follow DC on-line or anything, but the vibe I get is that Joey was the "Lana" and the "Marissa" of that show.
I liked Sarah Michelle Gellar, I like Alexis Bledel and Heather Grahm on Gilmore Girls, I LOVE Elleb Muth who's the leading lady on Dead Like Me, and I LOVED Charisma Carpenter on Buffy and Angel, or what I watched of it.
But these are all STRONG leading female characters. They don't suffer from the "curse of the leading lady." They're allowed to screw and and boy do they get called out when they do. They grow and learn from mistakes. And they're all FUNNY. They don't take themselves too seriously.
Take Lorelai on Gilmore Girls. When the show started and for a long time, she was a wacky, neurotic, impulsive, self-centered, witty, big kid of a grown up and mom. And it was FUNNY as hell. But she slowly changed. She became more responsible and thought before acting. And now that she's with Luke, she's becoming less self-centered and actually thinking of him and his wants and needs instead of just hers.
Then there's Marissa and Lana, the two t.v. characters that I hate the most. They DO suffer from the "curse of the leading lady." Well, all of the girls on Smallville suffer from the same thing at one time or another. They're all supposed to be smart, strong, independent, good girls. But all THREE, Lana, Chloe, and Lois, have been whiney, pathetic, bratty, weak, little children, not because it's a flaw of their character, but when the writers needed it for plot movement. They jump big gaps using that excuse. They "fix" writing flubs with that excuse and it's disgusting.
Lana gets it the most because SHE is the leading lady. She when she DOES do something wrong, Clark or Lex or SOMEONE immediately jumps to her defense and tells her that it's alright, that it wasn't REALLY her fault and coushins the blow for her, or she's inebriated with mind control or Nicodemus dust or posessed by a witch so, while it may have been HER in body stealing money from the Talon or steeling Lex's car or pointing a gun at Clark or cursing Lex to play the piano forever and ever, it isn't her in SPIRIT. It's not Lana Lang. It's Nicodemus!Lana or Mindrape!Lana or Witch!Lana. So it's not reall her fault then either because she wasn't in control of her actions.
Same with Marissa. She can drink and steal and take drugs and she never feels the brunt of her actions because Ryan's always there to protect her, to hold her and to tell her that everything's alright and that it's not her fault because she was drunk/psychologically disturbed because of her mom and dad, or because she had taken drugs. It's NEVER Marissa making a mistake when she's of the right mind. It's been a little bit better this season cause Ryan doesn't run to her resuce everytime she sheds a tear, but she's been HORRIBLE to her mom and she's been drunk a number of times and she never gets in trouble.
If the writers made their leading ladies more relatable and realistic then maybe they wouldn't have such a negative following.

so agreeing with everyone...
columbia's right... the only thing that makes most of the actors on that list non annoying (and i like all of them except lana's) is that they had a bit of oomph
kristen playing lana is like a dog playing a wet fish... they just will never be convincing because they dont really want to do it
that probably doesnt make sense... my point is that even joey from dawson or liz from roswell could pick themselves up...

I like Charisma but we all know she's not on TV for her skill of the acting craft.
ColumbiaBlue412
01-18-2005, 03:15 PM
But she can carry her own acting wise. I wasn't a huge fan of Buffy or Angel so I didn't watch it regurlarly, but from the episodes I DID watch, Cordelia was my favorite character on BOTH shows.
She was a great character. Well written and *****y but in a hysterical kind of way, and she was brutally honest. She called things as she saw them. She didn't sugarcoat the truth for people.
And Charisma Carpenter, while she's SO gorgeous, she acted the hell out of her role. We ALL know that just being beautiful doesn't cut it, ala Mischa Barton and Kristin Kreuk. It may get you there initally, but if you want to stay in the game for the long run, you *have* to have talent. You *have* to be more then mediocre.
While Cordelia may have been funny on paper, it was Charisma that took hold of the character and OWNED it. If the wrong actress had been playing her, she could've been a nightmare.
And I think one of the MAIN problems, one of the big problems with both Lana and Marissa is that they're NEVER allowed to have any fun. For the most part, all they're doing is moping around, crying over who did them wrong this week, *****ing, moaning, and complaing about *something* in their lives, usually a boy, and generally acting as if the world's about to end. It's boring and annoying and NO teenage girl is EVER like that all the time. And if she is, she's HATED.
In the beginning of Season 4 of Smallville, in Crusade, I adored Lana. I thought she was the cutest thing. Why? Because she was HAPPY! She was smiling and flirting and goofing off and being a normal teenage girl. She wasn't a little black rain cloud ALL the time and she wasn't complaining about Clark. She was even like that for a while when she got back to Smallville.
I remember one scene, I think it was Devoted, where Jason sends a note for Lana to meet him somewhere to one of her classes, and when she confronts him about it, she's not mad or embarrassed, she's *funny.* I saw KK use facial expressions I wasn't aware she could make in that scene.
But now she's back to being the same ole' little black rain cloud of the past. She's not funny, she's not cute, and she walks around with a pissed off/constipated look on her face all the time.
I realize that Smallville is a drama. But that doesn't mean all the characters have to walk around in a funk all the time. Chloe's had some hilarious lines. Clark and Lois have been a hoot together. Even Lex has been intentionally funny. Lana is the only one who's not allowed to be funny. Who's not allowed to be happy and it's ANNOYING!

I used to like the character Lana in the first season. I thought the acting was pretty good. As the show went along, Lana has become a boring character, especially this season. I did like her laughing and relaxing in a couple of episodes this year, but overall she seems to be going nowhere. I wish they would allow Lana to be more like she was in the first season. She was sweet and very much like the girl next door. Instead they have portrayed her as mean and selfish. I dont blame KK. She is doing what she is told and remember she is inexperienced compared to everyone else on this show (except maybe TW).

Charisma C. is a great actress and young actresses, like Kristin Kreuk., can learn a lot from her! She took a secondary role and gave it life! If Charisma Carpenter hadn´t played the part of Cordelia, that character would have sucked!!! It was Charisma´s acting abilities that gave the character greatness!

cordy went from harsh poular cluless girl to confident, kind, strong deep person in a matter of seasons

I think, with the "lead girls", everyone from the director, producer, writers (and even the press) already defined who they would like the lead character to be, and how well the actress lives up to - or fails - such expectations tend to determine what most people think about the lead girl.
The same could be said for the leading man, but I think the guys generally seem to get wider latitude for less-than-stellar performances. TW in S1 was basically learning the ropes as he was acting, but he seemed to get a larger benefit of the doubt from everyone - fans and press.
Supporting actors/actresses don't seem to be "micro-managed" as much because of their limited air-time (most plots don't revolve around what they say or do). That can be a plus, or minus. AM was able to take ownership of Chloe's portrayal far more than KK ever could with Lana. In Pete's case, as good as he was, TPTB never gave him the opportunity to "own" the role ... and talent doesn't help when you no longer fit into TPTB's expectations. Whitney's own demise seemed to be an accelerated version of that. (You can't push Clana on the target demographic if her original boyfriend is still kicking around.)
Sure, talent is an important factor, but we should also consider the material (scripts, direction, etc.) TPTB have given her to work with. Perhaps KK needed to take more ownership of Lana -- in the way AM and MR took ownership of their characters.
Anyhow, I voted 'Other' because I cannot fathom how Mischa Barton is a star, let alone a "lead girl". [See the glass as half-full: what if Mischa were Lana Lang *shudders*]
Katie Holmes gets an annoyance nod too, for her schmoozefest with an increasingly paranoid Tom Cruise.

Yeah, but she still does the "smell the fart look". She did that in Unsafe when Jason brought up his mother, she was supposed to look confused, but she just looked like jason just broke wind. After we watched Onyx, my husband said "Is it me or does KK always look constipated in the loft scenes?"

I think KK's problem is that she's too stiff. She makes her head and face do all the acting while her body does nothing unless she's running away or fuuing away at something.
