Awww, look, it's the ill-fated construction foreman who wants to demolish the Kawatche Caves to put up a new Luthorcorp office park -- he's the redshirt of the episode -- well, more of a red hat, I guess.
Joseph Willowbrook had quite a presence, didn't he? I wonder how he managed to get onto that land in the first place, considering it was revealed eventually in this episode that he was NOT the one who had the werewolf transformative powers.
That is one BIG tank of gasoline! Dude... in Smallville, when you hear an ominous, foreboding noise, it's best NOT to move toward the strangeness, but to get inside your truck, the trailer, someplace safe... Yeah, a flare gun is definitely going to be super-helpful at a time like this.
That white wolf, while super-scary, is actually kind of beautiful. Uh-oh, dude. You're about to learn the hard way that gasoline and flares don't mix. That was a pretty cool explosion/fire! Looks like wolfie is enjoying the fireworks. :p
SOMEBODY SAAAAAAAAAVE MEEEEEEEEEEE from perpetually boring characters who turn into werewoooooooolves! Not that Kyla wasn't cute and all... I just thought she acted like a cardboard cutout in a lot of her scenes. :o
And thanks, Raistlin -- good to chat about another episode with you (and everyone)!

So... who owns these dirt bikes, anyway? I've never seen Clark on one in any other episode. I suppose they must belong to Pete's family? It's cool to see the two friends hanging out and doing something fun, in any case. Where did they say they were going? Millar's Bend -- as in show co-creator Miles Millar? :rotfl:
WHOA, that was a crazy-bad wreck and a LOOOOOOONG fall. Good thing the guy's an invulnerable Kryptonian. And how did his landing on the cave floor automatically cause that random cave-in?
Why does Clark automatically assume that any dark-haired figure approaching has to be Lana? :p And why does he always have the lamest excuses? I mean seriously... he falls a hundred feet and uses the line, "Just lucky, I guess"?!
It's cool to hear the legend of Naman again for the first time. It would be an important recurring theme over the course of the rest of the series. That one cave painting of Clark with the Elvis hair and big S on his chest looks pretty goofy, though. The colors of the paints are so rich that it looks almost like they were done in sidewalk chalk just the day before. :p

Jonathan's over-protectiveness is another recurring theme, and is unsurprising in this situation.
This next scene always confuses me a little bit. Who was the person that Joseph Willowbrook is talking about who was on Earth before? Could it be someone in Jor-El's and Clark's lineage?
Clark looks awfully proud to announce to the world that his mom works for Luthorcorp in front of a pair of people who obviously don't like the Luthors all that much. :p

I have to admit that, even though I'm not the biggest fan of Kyla's character, it is rather refreshing to see Clark showing interest in someone other than...
Lana Lang! Dressed in all pink... and honestly looking pretty cute in this scene. I like that there isn't a whole lot of angst in this scene between them, especially after what occurred in "Dichotic." It was nice of her to be willing to go to her newly discovered father for help with this crisis.

Another Season 2 Mionel scene... Why is Lionel always so surprised at Martha's good-natured, honest, caring nature? And why did Martha look so guilty in her reaction when Lex showed up on the scene?
BTW, thanks, Lionel, for that recap of Lex's arc in the first ten episodes of Season 2. What was Lionel trying to pull in asking Lex to join up as a partner? Did he just want him back under his thumb, or was there something more to it than that?

Sagett? So she pronounces it that way the first time around, and it later changes to Sageeth... Weird. What's even weirder is the choice to first portray Sageeth as Lex, and then to try to shoehorn Davis into that same role.
I always wished they'd reference that bracelet later in the series toward the end. Did they even ever show that particular cave painting of the woman he was destined to be with again? And what was with that weird moon-looking thing on her head?
Why did Kyla smile at Clark in one shot after the rock fell on them, and in the next one, she looked all confused and slightly freaked out. WHOA -- Clark is making out with the non-Lana!
Meanwhile, Lana herself is having another meeting with dear old dad... who she finally finds out is actually her real dad! I think it was a real mistake to write him out of the series completely, never to be heard from again toward the end of this season. Why did they choose to do that, anyway?

That was a little harsh bit of dialogue from Joseph Willowbrook in what he said to Martha, though I'll have to admit that she can occasionally be a bit naive.
Way to go, Henry Small, coming in with the appropriate paperwork at just the right time!
How could there have been any blood left behind from the victim of that huge explosion? And didn't they say in a later scene that they found wolf teethmarks in the foreman's bones? Does that mean that Kyla went back after the fact and gnawed on his ashy skeleton?
Clark's a little confrontational in this conversation with Lex in this scene, especially for a guy who immediately demands his help in forking over bail money for a guy that he's basically just met.
"It's a completely different feeling when the person likes you back." That's another dumb statement. Lana DID like you, Clark. You just couldn't open up and tell her the truth. And besides, Chloe liked Clark, and still does like him, and yet he hardly glanced in her direction other than in late Season 1's Chlarky Trilogy of Awesomeness.
I like the seemingly random mention of Whitney that would lead to the next episode's plotline.
"Maybe we should just try to stop falling for guys who are trying to save the world." Which is why you go off and marry the Green Arrow eight seasons later. :rotfl:

What are the caves at Lascalle, anyway? And uh-oh... Lex saw the octagon-hole! Dun, dun, DUNNNNNN!!!!
Looks like Clark managed to succeed in winning Lex over. It was nice of Martha to try to mend faces with Joseph, considering how stubbornly set he was in his opinions about what was going on with Martha and the Luthors. "It's clear where your loyalties lie." Be nice to Mama Kent!
"You know, Clark, a simple, 'Hello, Chloe' goes a long way." Whoa, what's with the 'tude? Still pining, from the look of it... And I wouldn't call it obsessed when he just started showing interest in the caves for the first time a couple of days before.
Aw, c'mon, Wolfie Kyla... threatening Mama Kent? Now that's just cold. Leave Martha alone to her pies, sweetness, and awesome mother/wife/business-savvy lady-ness!!!!

Kyla looks rather fetching in that sweater, as they rotate around her like three times in rapid succession. This is one of those scenes that makes me think that Lionel doesn't have his sight back yet -- or if he IS regaining it, it's not completely returned yet. Otherwise, he'd have no reason to be pouring his drink with his finger on the edge of the glass, or sitting down so carefully when there's no one else in the room, unless he's worried about surveillance cameras.

Lionel hears random scratching at the door, and automatically assumes it's Lex? And why exactly is there a CHORUS of wolf howls? Can Kyla sound like multiple animals at once or something? And how did she get into the mansion in the first place?
Oh no... poor Clark, about to endure his second major tragedy in the span of three episodes -- first Ryan and now Kyla... She still acted pretty stiff in this scene, but I do have to give Tom Welling props for his reaction to Kyla's confession and her death, which makes it more touching than it probably would be otherwise.

That's really a very beautiful bit of filming there as they pan away from Clark rocking Kyla in his arms, the fog-lit forest surrounding them. It's the one image that was really etched in my mind after watching this episode initially.

LOVE this guy expressing his opinion of Whitney going on and on about Lana!

You'd think that Lana would have asked for Jonathan's help rather than Clark's, seeing as he doesn't have much in the way of official plumbing training. Her reaction to him and his "white tee-shirt" was pretty obvious. By the way, do we ever see this bathroom again after this episode? :p You could cut the romantic tension in this scene with a knife! And Clark certainly DID switch love interests quickly, didn't he?
I had forgotten how they'd worked the kryptonite necklace back to Smallville. At least this episode is good for something other than weirding me out -- I was never a big fan of Tina Greer's character.
This was a pretty cool bit of cinematography, I have to admit -- feels like a completely different show in a lot of ways, doesn't it? I like the way that, even though they killed off Whitney's character, they still gave him a heroic sendoff, giving his all to try to save his fellow Marine. Rest in peace, Whitney Fordman... rest in peace. :(
Whitney the hero! Well done!

True that, Skully! Thanks!
Clark really was surprisingly proactive in what he said to Lana in this episode.
Whoa... not the person she expected to see coming down the hall, obviously, the crowds on either side parting more dramatically than should be humanly possible. :p That was a little overly dramatic a "reunion" moment, dontcha think? And Clark is left alone, only to abandon Lana's pink and purple spiral notebooks unattended in the hallway.
I thought Nellie Blye was Chloe's hero. :)I guess not in the 2nd grade! She must've replaced Betsy Ross. :)

This is different re-watching this for probably only the first or second time since my original chance watching it. Knowing that Whitney is actually Tina in this scene makes it that much more disturbing, but I like the way he acts just subtly different.
"It took me five days to figure it out... you're delusional." Wait -- so she just started her relationship with Lex less than a week ago in "Dichotic?"
