And do we still need a poll?

I'll be here same time on Friday night, as usual. :)

I'll be present and accounted for! And yes, I'd prefer that we keep a poll up and running. I like to know how many people to expect, and who's watching when. :) (Even though, in retrospect, I guess it is generally the same viewers almost every time.)

Sweet!!! :D

Jeff, I have adopted a "If the Rewatch thread is not up by Thursday morning (Aus time) then Jeff's very busy, so I'll step in for him" approach. If that is a wrong assumption please let me know. :)

And cool, we'll stick with our poll each week.

:rotfl: That is a very correct assumption. Now that the school year's back in full swing, as a teacher, I have much less time to be online, particularly for any reasons that are not work-related, so I really appreciate your assistance in getting these threads up and running. Dr. Garner is such a dirtbag. He is seriously one of my least favorite characters on Smallville ever, or most hated... Whatever. Either way, he's a total jerk. Why is he holding him against his will like that? It has to be totally illegal. What is he hoping to figure out from this, anyway? He obviously knows the kid has ESP now, and can tell that making him use his powers isn't exactly good for his health.

I do have to admit that I love the way Ryan plays Dr. Garner in this scene, preying on the slightest doubt he has about that orderly so that he can make good his escape attempt.

I think Ryan could've probably disguised his escape route a bit better, don't you? Always pull the air vent in after you, and try not to throw it out so loudly when you try to get out. I'm just glad that he was able to reach the Kent farm with enough time to give Clark the low-down on where he was before they showed up with their creepy-huge needle. That is AWFUL. UGH!!! It really drove me so crazy that he didn't immediately get his comeuppance in this episode, 'cause he most certain deserved it.

SOMEBODY SAAAAAAAVE ME from wanting to kick Dr. Garner's butt straight to the remains of Kryptoooooon!!!!

Agreed, Raistlin -- Ryan Kelley is one of my favorite recurring guest stars in his role as Ryan James. And thanks, MrsK!

I did hear that the Garner dude was up for the role of Lex, but I think he doesn't hold a candle to Rosenbaum, which is obviously why he didn't get picked.

Clark is immediately blaming himself, of course, which is unsurprising. Pete's line about the "toy scoooooterrrr" is so goofy, but pretty funny. Thank goodness that Chloe was able to figure out where Summerholt was. You'd think they wouldn't have to trace the call, though -- did they ever just try Googling Summerholt? I'm sure they'd have to have a Web page, even if it was in the early 2000s. :p

Lana on a horse -- in pink! What else is new? She's a little slow on the uptake when Nell starts talking about going to Metropolis. It was a pretty big bomb to drop on her like that. I honestly can't blame her for reacting the way she did.

I love Martha's indignation at the bureaucratic red tape that Summerholt had put up. I'm even more happy with Clark's choice to go ahead, find Ryan, and rescue him himself, regardless of what his parents said. By the way, the lobby sure expanded in "Memoria" when we saw this episode again, didn't it? :p

YAY! Pick him up, Clark! SAVE HIM! WOOOOO!!!!!!!! I love the way he just shoves that guy straight into the wall. Funny they didn't think twice about that feat of strength later. I love the look of joy on Ryan's face, even though he's groggy from all the meds they had him under.

That is one HUGE cup of gourmet cocoa. I want it!!!!

I get mad at Ryan's aunt during this conversation. I mean, sure, she must've felt that she were up against a wall, but still... there had to be another way than just giving him over to those jerks. I'm sure they sugarcoated their bit on what they were going to do with him, but still...

I admire Lex for helping Clark out, knowing the illegality of it and the risks he was undertaking. Clark really didn't think things through, but I stand behind his choice 100%. "You're the luckiest guy I ever met." :rotfl: Clark's getting SLIGHTLY better at his excuses.

And here's Ethan, in the role of quasi-bad guy again. I hate Dr. Garner even more, now. What an absolute, royal jerk. What right do they have to keep Ryan???? GGGGRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warm, happy Kent family reunion with Ryan... I really wish they had been able to adopt Ryan, and do more for him. He would have been the coolest little brother for Clark. Even if they had given him a story ARC of multiple episodes, that would have been nice.

Ryan is really nice to give his aunt the benefit of the doubt in that way even though she gave him up like that. Ryan Kelley is a great actor. The look of despair and hopelessness that crossed his face when he knew they arrived... *shiver*

I love the protective stance that both the Kent men take in blocking Ryan from being taken by Dr. Garner. Why doesn't Ethan look into the matter more before just jumping the gun like this? Thank goodness that Shades-Wearing-Lawyer-Lingo-Spouting Lex showed up just in the nick of time with a major restraining order to slap on that jerk, along with that potential counter-suit. Well done, Lex!!!

Bit of foreshadowing that wouldn't play out for another season and a half in that line from Garner, but he'll get his... eventually.

I love that all those people threw the impromptu party for him. But... who are all those other kids?! I mean... it's not like he could've met a ton of people the last time he was in Smallville. They pulled in random band for the event, too. This is really a rather funny scene, but it's sweet that they went to all that trouble to give Ryan that special party. They must've had to throw together that sign awfully fast.

Ryan's comment about Pete's stress over Clark's secret was another portent of what was to come throughout the next season and a half or so. He was always convenient at filling Clark in on the things that were going on with his friends before he would have a chance to find out, himself.

:rotfl: Clark's reading The Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding the Brain. Umm... I have no comment for that.

Clark looks totally crestfallen and slightly panicked over Lana's potential big move. Nell and Dean were pretty selfish in how they just up and decided this without involving Lana in the process at all. "It's kind of crowded right now." There are only two bedrooms in the Kent farm in the first place, aren't there? I love that Clark steps up and tells her not to move and shares his feelings more honestly than he typically does. It was sweet of Martha to be willing to give up her job to spend more time with Ryan, thinking he'd be with them long-term. I also like the way that Ryan knew her secret, but it wasn't actually revealed for another eight episodes -- another dose of continuity at work!

"That depends... are your hands clean?" :rotfl: Classic comic book collector humor. Bonding over Warrior Angel -- very cool scene in which Ryan sees the first signs of what Lex could (and will) become, with his talk of compromises and grey areas. Oh no... not another headache/nosebleed! NO! :(

That is SO cool how they transition from the "A Hero Cries" cover to Clark in the hospital. Clark looks so completely helpless while Ryan's unconscious, but I love the brave front he puts up for him in order to make him feel better. They have great, honest conversations with each other. You can tell that Ryan wants to be just like Clark.

BTW, that is a pretty ugly and non-dynamic comic cover... this coming from a guy who has a couple hundred he's collected. No offense to whoever drew it in the Smallville art department.

Look at those tears -- MAJOR acting chops on that kid. WHY, oh WHY couldn't they have kept him on the show for at least a little while longer?

There is yet another reason to hate Dr. Garner. His actions directly led to Ryan's tumor's growth and debilitating condition. That guy deserved a lot worse a fate than what he got in "Memoria." Jonathan did a great job of TRYING to console Clark, but I'm glad that he still tried to do everything he could to help him.

Lana was really bold to attempt the "child emancipation" angle. It was really nice and generous of Chloe to step up and offer her a place to stay, especially considering that keeping Lana in town would continue to put a roadblock in place for the Chlark relationship. Chloe really was a good friend to Lana.

Lex was a great friend in this episode as well, and he gave Clark some great advice. At least Clark was able to give Ryan a little more time that they could spend together. AWESOME conversation and scene. I love Clark's super-speed in this scene -- very cool stuff!!!!

I never noticed the blood on the comic in "Action!" I'll have to check that out, too.

The Warrior Angel/Devilicus issue's plotline mirrors the Clark/Lex relationship in so many ways, and was a pretty big anvil, but I liked the anvils when they were related to Warrior Angel. To me, it didn't feel contrived or hokey at all. I didn't really like the "rewrite" they gave the Warrior Angel/Devilicus connection/origin in "Warrior." "The road to darkness is a journey... not a light switch." "You should remember that, Lex." Wow.

AWESOME end of Clark's run, even heading out on the tarmac to stop him just in the nick of time! Was that guy who just answered Clark's question on any other episode? He looked kind of familiar...

EWWWWWW!!!! The yellow teeth! THE TEETH! I love that commercial. :rotfl: Way to go, Lex!!!!! He seriously is a rock star in this episode. He lost his cool pretty quickly, which goes to show who really had the upper hand in that conversation, especially when Lex pulled out the "Winston Churchill" quote. Nicely done, Mr. Luthor. :)

Clark and Lana really were pretty sweet together in the entire episode. Ryan really inspired Lana, too, which was cool. The "not going to be the girl next door" comment was pretty cute, and the "telescope" remark in reply was funny.

Oh no... Martha's crying. You KNOW that can't be good... Annette O'Toole's acting with just that one word speaks volumes of her amazing talent.

:( Poor Ryan... Clark really did put up an extremely brave front for him. Oh man... These last few scenes get to me every time. I like that Ryan reveals a lighter side to Lex and wants Clark to help keep the good in him alive. *sniff*

Oh man... THIS scene is the one that hits me the hardest of pretty much every scene in Smallville. I love this entire moment -- the conversation, the thoughtfulness Clark had, the way he's trying to pretend he's strong even though he's breaking for Ryan's fate, the song... It's just... Man... :( "You changed my life! You're going to change a lot of lives. Promise me you'll never give up?" "I promise..." :( :( :( :( :( :( :( *pans away from the balloon*

I don't know if I can watch the next scene that follows...

----- Added 1 Minutes later -----

Pretty amazing way they ended it, slowly backing away from Clark standing alone in the corridor with the comics as everything moved around him -- stuck knowing there was nothing he could have done, for one of the few times in his life that such a situation occurred.

Okay... gotta pop my new disc in... *sniffles*

For a guy with a 4.0 and such a concern for grades (supposedly being a major brainiac), you'd think he'd know better than to use the item he created in shop to murder his teacher with.

That meter maid was a total pompous jerk. Lex's little speech/golf club combo was hilarious. Nice...

This is the first time we've actually seen Chloe & her dad's house. It's really pretty! I wish we could have seen it more often.

Ian's a little overly flirtatious with Chloe, but it's clear that he's only trying to use her, hoping that her article on him would give him the extra push to head to college early. Why is Chloe's weirdar on the fritz every time when it comes to guys that she finds attractive? :p

HELEN!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D I LOVE HELEN BRYCE! Her appearance in this episode will help console me from the other aspects of it that I don't like quite as much, and how worse it is in comparison to "Ryan."

This is a pretty gross scene. Where is he changing, anyway? What is that place in the Talon? That is one of the goofiest CGI stunts I think they've done on Smallville. And does he just happen to ALWAYS carry around a second set of identical clothing everywhere he goes?

BTW, what ever happened to that car Chloe was driving? We saw it first in "Tempest," I think, but by "Fever," she had the new VW Beetle.

Jonathan never was one to take an injury lying down... or even sitting down. And honestly, how much repair does one tractor need, anyway?

That was pretty fast, Lana. Kissing him after just one study session?? Whoa -- is that the same poetry letter that Byron wrote her that's taped up in her locker? Nice continuity!

Clark DID have the facts, Lana. Maybe if you'd actually listened to him (as you didn't do any of the other times you were followed by a stalker), you wouldn't have ended up getting nearly chucked off a dam.

Chloe should have given Clark more leeway, too, considering her past experience with crazy jerks. And seriously, they were more than a bit "close" -- he could have just told her that he saw Ian kissing Lana in the hallway. Wouldn't that be enough? What is with the girls and their guilt trippy, whiny comments in this episode?

And Clark did NOT break up with Chloe the day after Spring Formal. SHE'S the one who pulled the "let's just be friends" card.

I love the way that Clark kept figuring out what was going on. He was so proactive in this episode! I wish Pete wouldn't balk all the time when Clark wanted to investigate things. He was the same way in "Extinction" when they happened upon Van McNulty's hit list in that hunting cabin.

I don't really think Ian is trying to kill the girls to get to Clark so much as to protect his secret. Why does Clark think that?

"The two for one special?"

Ian is such a total arrogant jerk. "Together, you're almost my equal." I wish Lana already had her OWN drop-kicking powers that she gains in "Precipice." I'd think they'd have been able to been more of a threat to him -- even if there were two of him -- from the time this scene occurs to the drive to the dam. How was/were he/they able to overpower BOTH of them that easily and kept them from escaping all that time? How'd he/they even get them across the parking lot to that car? So many plot holes... They're not even bound!

That suicide note was so obviously fake. I'm not seeing much of the "smart" Ian in the bulk of this episode. Book-smart, maybe... but zero wisdom or common sense.

GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY FAVORITE TINY BLONDE!!!! Nice catch, Clark! And eat that, Ian!

You'd think someone as smart as Ian would come up with something better than that!

There's an extended scene on the DVD where Ian dies from the fall. It's a good thing they kept him alive so they could bring him back!

Lana sure did a lot of panting in this scene. I'm literally laughing out loud here. That fakey fall was pretty ridiculous looking, too. Is this the same dam that we get to see a lot of at the end of season 6 and beginning of season 7???

Don't beat yourself up, Chloe. Lana has attracted her share of creepy suitors.

Nice Chloe/Lana scene here.

----- Added 36 Seconds later -----

Love Clark's reaction: "This can't be good."

I love Jonathan's honesty with Martha in this moment. They always keep the air clear and open between the two of them and resolve their issues speedily. I absolutely LOVE their relationship, and the way they're completely supportive of each other, even when they don't totally see eye-to-eye on certain things.

"How're you doing?" "Feeling a little freak. Kind of stupid." Kind of? :p "It only went as far as it did because we weren't honest with each other." And because you didn't listen to Clark's REPEATED WARNING'S that the guy was cheating on them both and was even a murderous psycho -- something he actually witnessed firsthand!

The rules of the Sullivan house were pretty hilarious. I do like Chloe's and Lana's friendship, even if it is occasionally a bit dysfunctional.

Clark makes a good point about their dismissing him. Chloe brings up his past of being less than honest and conveniently forgets how often he is RIGHT about all these creepy guys and how many times he has saved both of them. Love Lana's facial expression when he says he just wants to be friends! Way to go Clark... they deserved that!

True that, Jim!

This conversation....... YES, Clark CAN blame the two of you. "The truth is that I expected more from both of you." "And we expected more from you." Like what? What more did you expect of him beyond him REPEATEDLY TELLING YOU about Ian, saving BOTH your lives... UGH! Just shut up, both of you!!!! "We made a mistake... but it was both ours to make." Yeah, a mistake that almost got you hurled off the dam and killed. Great choice. You sound almost like you hope you make more similar ones in the future. :p WAY to go, Clark. You tell 'em! I love the way he walks off down the street with that smile on his face afterwards. You SHOULD be smiling, Clark. Nice work!!!!!
