S10: Homecoming, Luthor.

S9: Kandor, Checkmate, Sacifice, Salvation.

S8: Committed (Clois break through moment, Lois truth test, she loves Clark, plus some super moments, and overall just great Clois moments) I'd say "Bride" almost. "Legion"

"Bulletproof" could have been if it wasn't for the disapointment in the ending (I was expecting MM to get his powrs back, but he was still weak in the end, lame)

S7: Bizarro, Siren, Veritas, and Apocalypse. Only the first 5 minutes of "Descent."

S6: You forgot, "'Labyrinth," that was classic. Genius way to introduce Martian Mahunter through his telepathy ability.

this is a good question. i have someone who's trying to get up to speed with our family rewatch (i.e. season 5) without having to watch very many episodes. i already showed her the pilot, but was trying to think of what others will help her. we just watched Mortal, Hidden and Aqua, and she was a little lost... haha. she also knows nothing about the superman legend so that doesn't really help.

any suggestions?

I guess it depends what your definition of "essential" is but in general if you going on the basis of episodes that are part of a bigger season storyline, in general each season you could pick the opener and closer plus 2-3 episodes during the coarse of the season that add to it
