Smallville Mafia Three Official Game Thread

Welcome to Mafia! This is a game where the players in the game are known as "townies" but a few of them are working together in secret to kill off the others. They are known as the "mafia". It is up to the townies to figure out who is in the mafia before the mafia kills all the innocent townies. Each round the townies can choose to lynch someone, but they must choose carefully. If the mafia claims the majority of the town, they'll be able to take it over. There may also be a serial killer, a lone player working to kill off everybody (mafia and town alike) and is trying to make it to the end of the game.

In this game, everyone is assigned a character/role at random. It is best to keep your character/role a secret though out the game -- in fact, that is a definitive RULE this time that you MUST do so. Flavor text/story will be used to narrate the game, but “stories” will only be used to reveal (who died, if anyone got saved, etc). Anything else is just extra and irrelevant.

General Rules:
1. I am the game moderator. I have ultimate authority over the game, but I am a human being. I make mistakes. Please be kind to your mod and show him some respect.
2. Everyone is assigned a role/character at random by me. Roleclaiming is allowed but only advised when absolutely necessary. However, you are NOT allowed to quote anything in your role PM.
3. The game operates in two phases: Day and Night (NOT real time). Day phases will last no longer than a week and night phases last no longer than 48 hours.
4. During the day, players discuss who they think is scum and will have the chance to vote on someone to be lynched.
5. During the night, those with special abilities will PM their targets to the mod. Absolutely no discussion in the thread is allowed during a night phase.
6. Townies are NOT allowed to talk with any other player outside the thread concerning mafia. Mafia are only allowed to PM each other during the night phase. All mafia related discussion must remain in this thread.
7. If you die at any point in the game, you are allowed ONE BRIEF farewell post, then you are not allowed to post in the thread again. Dead people can post in the graveyard thread, but please follow the graveyard rules.
8. Stay active! Posting off topic is NOT encouraged. You must make 3 posts per day phase. If you cannot make this limit before deadline, please let me know. If you do not give me a reason for your absence and you do not make the post quota, you will be modkilled!
9. Do not quote anything outside this thread as evidence and DO NOT EDIT your post!
10. Above all, HAVE FUN!

Daytime Rounds:
Each daytime round will consist of each player throwing around suspicions and accusations of who is in the mafia/SK. The mafia/SK will use this time to “deceive” the other players and often try to throw suspicion on others. If you are a townie it is job to figure out who is lying and who is telling the truth. Trust me, this won’t always be an easy feat. I advise every player to participate in discussions as much as possible, but I only require each player to post 3 times per day round (some cases may vary). The more you participate, the more fun the game will be. At any time you can give a player an IGMEOY or FOS (see common terms and acronyms). These are used to show the other players who you find suspicious. When you think you have enough evidence to lynch somebody. You may vote for that person.

Voting:
1. Votes must be cast in the following format, in all capitalization: VOTE: PLAYER X. Any vote that is not in this format will NOT count.
2. If you want to change your vote, you must first UNVOTE.
3. The number of votes required for a lynch is the majority of the players (if even # of players: 1/2 of the players plus 1; if odd # of players: 1/2 of the players plus .5.
4. Once the required number of votes is reached on a given player, that player will be lynched. After that you cannot change your vote or unvote. The game will enter twilight and a lynch story will soon be posted and Night will begin. Twilight is your last chance to post before the lynching story.
5. At deadline, if the required number of votes is NOT reached, a reduced number of votes will be accepted. This is half the original required number of votes. If there is a tie, whoever reached the number first will be lynched.
6. At deadline, if the reduced number of votes is not met, there won't be a lynch.
7. You can also vote NO LYNCH. If majority votes for a NO LYNCH, then the round will end there. There is NO reduced number of votes at deadline for NO LYNCH.

Nighttime Rounds:
1. No posting in the thread during a night phase.
2. Any player with a special ability will have a deadline to send in an ability PM. If the player misses deadline, then the ability won't count.

Roles:
Every role I have assigned in this game is based off a character from Smallville (from Seasons 1-4). Everyone is assigned a character at random, but not all characters will have a SA (vanilla townie or mafia goon). You must try and keep your role a secret. I do allow role claiming which is usually only used by someone when they are about to be lynched, a last resort if you will. In other cases roleclaiming is usually dangerous and will only make you a target for the mafia/SK. I will NOT tell you every single special ability that is found in the game, but here is what you can expect:
*1 Godfather
*2 roleblockers (one mafia, one townie)
*1 cop/detective
*1 doctor/protector
*And possibly others!

Role Claiming/Character Claiming:
One change in this game in comparison to some of the previous ones is that there will be NO ROLE CLAIMING OR CHARACTER CLAIMING OF ANY KIND allowed. We want to increase the difficulty level of this game, and role-claiming/character-claiming often proves to simplify things far too quickly, and now that most you are advanced players, we want you to have your work cut out for you, no matter which side of the law you’re fighting for. Do not let us even here an “OINK!” out of you, and do not share any inkling of your role or character at any time. Additionally, you are not allowed to reveal any privileged information after your death in your goodbye post. Keep such a post brief and to the point, focused only on saying goodbye and wishing your teammates good luck. If anyone role-claims, character-claims, or gives hints as to their identity, they will be, unfortunately, mod-killed.

Other Rules:
1. Please obey all K-Site rules!
2. No discussion of ships is allowed!
3. No flame wars, personal arguments, or offensive language!
4. Remember that this is JUST A GAME! Don't take this game too personally.

Common Terms and Acronyms:
IGMEOY: “I got my eye on you”
FOS: finger of suspicion
BWCS: best worst case scenario
AtE: appeal to emotion
Hammer vote: a final vote that lynches a player
L-#: used to describe how many votes a player is away from being lynched. For example: If it takes 5 votes to lynch and a player has 3 votes that player is at L-2
LyLo: “lynch-or-lose” Used to describe a situation when the town does not lynch, they lose.
MyLo: “mislynch-or-lose” Used to describe a situation when the town mislynches, they lose. However, a No Lynch will usually lead to another round.
SK: serial killer
RVS: “random voting stage” – commonly used at the beginning of the game as way to the game going. Players will usually vote each other for random reasons.
EBWOP: “edit by way of post” – since you are not allowed to edit your posts, if you have an edit you need to make, make a NEW post with EBWOP at the top and state your changes.
Lurking: Used to describe someone who is online and reads the thread but makes few posts OR someone who isn’t very active. (this is NOT encouraged)
SA: special ability
TwSA: townie with special ability
MwSA: Mafioso with special ability
PwSA: person with special ability
OT: off-topic

*Starting tips: The big question is: how do you begin? Well a common starting strategy for mafia is to begin the game in a RVS (see above). People will accuse/vote for other people (often for silly reasons) just to get people talking. Since this is an online game and you can't read facial expressions, the best way to play is to analyze what other people say. Find when other people are being suspicious and when it looks like their hiding something. You have a week to get your votes in so don't feel like you have to rush the game. Investigate, dig deep and sniff out whom among you is scum. Remember that you can always UNVOTE if a majority vote has not been reached or the deadline has not passed. Please try to stay on topic. If you have any questions PM me, or my co-moderator. If it's important for everybody, I'll post the Q&A in this thread.

CHAPTER 1
NIGHT 0: "A GROWING DARKNESS"

‘I’m too young to die!’ This wasn’t exactly the most original parting thought, the young woman knew as she ran lopsidedly down the dingy alleyway, the heel on one of her shoes broken, and her other leg scraped up from when she had fallen scant seconds before. She could hear his haggard breath as he turned the corner and saw her. She could practically feel his beady eyes staring at the back of her neck, and could imagine the switchblade knife he had clenched in his hand as he now sprinted behind her. She glanced over her shoulder, and noticed that her pursuer was gaining on her -- within the briefest of moments, the mugger would catch up with her, caught in the wrong part of Metropolis and without her handy spray can of mace.

As she whirled back around, whipping her long brown hair out of her face, she kicked her other shoe off and made a beeline for the chainlink fence, hoping it would provide the chance at escape that she had been hoping for. She leapt up and grabbed hold of the metal, hauling herself up, inch by inch, to what she hoped would be freedom and safety. “Aaaahhh!” she yelped as he’d managed to span the last few yards between them and grasped onto the back of her jacket. He yanked her backwards, her fingers yanked from their handholds on the fence, and she was hurled roughly to the pavement, the wind momentarily knocked out of her.

“Put up a good fight, lady,” the man snarled at her, as he leaned down low, brandishing the switchblade, which flashed menacingly in the glow of the nearest streetlight, “but the time for tag is over. Now, gimme all of your money!”

Although she was still gasping for breath, and her vision was swimming from the way the back of her head had smacked against the asphalt, she’d had enough basic training in physical combat to know where to hit, when to hit, and how hard to hit to disable an opponent, even when they had the upper hand. Her leg flew upwards, scoring a direct hit a few inches below his gut, and her right hand swung to follow it, aiming higher, for his face, poking him in the eyes. She scrambled to her feet, muttering, “Looks like you’ll have to take a rain check this time, short, dumb, and stinky!”

She hauled off to punch him again, in the temple, but he swatted her arm away, and lunged forward with the switchblade. She dodged, leaping backward, and then sidestepped another slicing movement, which caught and tore the edge of her jacket. Unfortunately, she was so focused on the rapid flash of the knife that she wasn’t paying as much attention to her footing as she should have, and ended up stumbling over a garbage bin, slipping and ramming her shoulder into the wall of the building behind her.

In a split-second, he had his arm across her throat, and had brought his knifepoint within an inch of her face. “Shouldn’t have tried to play the hero, lady,” he growled, flashing a hodgepodge of discolored and uneven teeth. “Now you’re about to learn what happens to folks who stray into my turf in Suicide Slums.”

Lois Lane struggled against her attacker as he brought the knife closer to her cheek, but could not break free. As it turned out, however, as she squeezed her eyes shut, she didn’t have to. She felt a whooshing rush of air pass by her, and instantly, the man’s arm was off her throat. In fact, as her eyes flew back open, Lois saw her would-be mugger had been flung down the entire length of the alley and had landed flat on his back on the roof of a junker car, knocked unconscious.

A half-second later, the world passed by her in a blur of color, sound, and light, and when she was finally able to catch her breath, she found herself standing on a familiar street corner, the welcoming lights of the Daily Planet building only a couple of blocks away, and the merry chatter of civilians shopping and dining surrounding her from the nearby stores and restaurants. A sharp ringing behind her drew her attention to a location she had become intimately familiar with over the past year. Rushing toward the phone booth, she lifted the phone off the receiver and pressed it to her ear, her heart racing a mile a minute at knowing who had to be on the other end of the line.

“You have a knack for getting yourself into precarious situations, don’t you, Miss Lane?” the deep, masked voice on the other end of the connection teased her, half-flirtatiously, she thought, and half-seriously.

“Well, as a reporter, I’ve made it a habit of sticking my nose where it doesn’t always belong,” she responded with more cheer and gusto than she really felt after her harrowing ordeal. “Good thing I had some red and blue back-up when I went to check up on the latest front page scoop.”

“You should be more careful,” the voice responded sternly, though she knew he only said it because he cared -- cared more than anyone else she’d ever met. “And you might want to try calling to let me know which seedier parts of the city you’re investigating the next time you follow up on a lead. I may have super-speed, but even I can’t be two places at once...” Lois’ hair was whipped over her shoulder again, as she whirled to face the person she’d just been talking to, “Can I, Lois?”

Lois stared into the face of her savior, her fiancé, and the man she’d chosen to spend the rest of her life with, as his concerned expression broke into a wide grin at finding her safe and sound, already changed out of his patriotic duds and into something more unassuming and businesslike. “You might want to work on that one, Smallville. We already know you’ve still got to work on the whole flying thing, but if you think there’s even a chance that you’ve gotten some teleportation or cloning abilities up your sleeves, we should start trying to bring them to the surface, on the double!” she quipped, as he enveloped her in his arms and pressed his lips tightly against her own.

After a few seconds, they slowly pulled away from each other, as she stared deeply into his piercing gaze. “Thank you for the timely save, as usual, my dear Mr. Kent,” she said graciously, her arms still wrapped around his neck as she drank in the smell of his aftershave.

“Anytime... Miss Lane,” he winked at her. “I’m off to finish up my rounds. Are you finished digging in the darker dregs of Metropolis, or do I need to lo-jack your phone to keep a better eye on you?”

“Dredged up the perfect amount of dirt to bring down a notorious crime boss, and link him to a corrupt politician. Not bad for a night’s work, if I do say so myself -- even if it did come with a rather unpleasant pit stop afterwards.” He gave her another concerned glare, and she wilted, responding, “Yes, I’m staying out of Suicide Slums for the foreseeable future. I’ll head straight to the Planet to put this little Pulitzer to bed before I head home. Are you in for a late night?”

“In my line of work, you never know,” Clark leaned in again for one last, quick kiss, and then was gone in a flash, his thoughts as rapid as his movements, as he slowly allowed his adrenaline to decelerate, knowing that Lois was, once again, and safe and unharmed. She kept him on his toes, as usual, but he couldn’t fault her for being who she was -- for being the woman he was betrothed to marry.

His phone tweeted into his ear, and he tapped his Bluetooth device to accept the incoming call. “I take it from the latest blips on the police scanners that you’ve managed to stop the breaking and entering at the jewelry store, nab the armed robber with a rap sheet longer than Pinocchio’s nose, and managed to rescue the damsel in distress, and all in record time?” a peppy, warm voice questioned playfully, and he couldn’t help but smile at the sound of his dearest best friend’s voice, even if she was no longer in the same city limits.

“Chloe Sullivan,” he replied as he slowed to a halt and then leapt up to the rooftop of the nearest building, a stone church with a towering steeple -- a place he had stood several times before at pivotal moments, or just when he wanted to have a bird’s eye view of the city he’d come to love almost as much as his hometown of Smallville, and was just as determined to protect. “To what do I owe the honor and pleasure of this call from The Star City Register’s finest new recruit? Or, are you just checking up on my track record to make sure I’m not slacking off now that you and your green leather-clad significant other are enjoying a change of scenery?”

“Oh, you know I never get tired of busting your chops, Clark, even if it is from long distance,” he could hear Chloe’s trademarked toothy grin, even from across a few hundred miles and one time zone. “But actually, I’m calling back with an update on that situation you told me to keep an eye on.”

Clark’s face darkened a bit as he steeled himself for what he was about to hear. “They struck again.” He squinted down at the still-busy streets below, watching the cars as they crawled like tiny beetles along the well-lit strips of road.

“Where and when?”

“In the business district, just a couple of hours ago,” she replied. “Same M.O., same lack of evidence. A clean kill, a target with no visible or obvious connection to the others, and only two bullet holes that point toward cause of death. I’ve got to tell you, Clark, I love being Nancy Drew to your Joe Hardy as much as the next girl, but this killer thriller is starting to creep even this former Wall of Weird curator out. It’s like the guy -- or girl -- is a total phantom. Pardon the reference to a certain Kryptonian prison for super-powered criminals that we all know and loathe.”

“We’ll figure it out, Chloe -- together. Any news from the rest of the league?”

“There’s been more unrest in major cities across the country in response to the VRA bill’s repeal. Although a lot of the drones went to ground, some of the bigwigs in the organization are continuing to try to keep a grassroots movement going to stir up more unrest, but not without reaping a bit of what they’ve sown.”

“What happened?” Clark questioned, while at the same time using his super-hearing to try to pick up on the sounds of any crimes in progress, any police car sirens, or any cries for help.

“One facility was bombed, and another one torched to the ground. There has also been some civil unrest here and there in response to pro-vigilante rallies. We may have thought the ill feelings of the few may have died down, but some are still bound and determined to wave the anti-hero flag, it seems... And, with the use of my personal satellite, and some high-tech equipment that my billionaire boyfriend -- er, husband -- can only provide, I’ve gotten a clear glimpse at part of what we’re dealing with. They have the Omega symbol.”

“The influence of the Darkness... it’s spreading,” Clark confirmed what he had already feared. “And it’s certain only to continue growing until we figure out a way to put a stop to it.”

“And we will,” Chloe quickly asserted. “I’ll keep tracking down my leads, while Tess is hopefully able to uncover some buried secrets of her own from Watchtower. Hang in there, Clark -- we’ll see this thing through. Now, I’ve gotta go. Oliver and I have a ritzy charity banquet to attend -- and I think it involves a jelly-making contest, and that means taste-testing.”

“Be sure to bring your favorite spoon,” Clark cracked a joke, causing her to erupt into a momentary fit of musical chuckles that he’d always found to be highly infectious.

“Take care of yourself, Clark,” she answered, before closing the connection. Clark stared up, now, at the star-strewn cosmos, pondering Chloe’s words, and pairing them up with another message he had recently received, upon one of his now more routine visits to the Fortress. Jor-El had warned him that the effects of the Darkness would only grow stronger until he and his allies managed to uncover the secret behind its originator, and those who had devoted themselves to its malevolent cause. So far, they’d been able to make only slight headway in this mission, and he knew there was still far to go. Jor-El’s last words gave him pause as he recalled them, word for word.

“This goes far beyond the darker side of human nature, Kal-El. A force beyond either of our planets has set its sights on Earth, and will continue to spread its treacherous roots until it consumes all goodness and justice in the world. You must put an end to it, at all costs.” He had decided, at that moment, that he could not take his biological father’s words lightly. Somewhere, in the depths of Metropolis, hidden parties were lying in wait, hoping to overthrow the city, to bring it to its knees, and to slaughter any of its would-be protectors. Now, more than ever, he knew he had to step up to the plate and be the man that Jor-El, and his adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha, always knew he could be. Now, to rid Metropolis, Smallville, and the world of unspeakable evils, he would have to be more than special... he would have to be... super.

Hm, it just came to my mind because in Smallville she wanted to get everyone in trouble but swicthed to being good, oh wait the vigilante IS good.. Oh i think Cat could be traitor ? Either her or Tess ?

Sometimes, the story may include hints of some other things, i.e. role-blocks, as we saw in Smallville Mafia 2, such as when Alicia was appearing and teleporting people away from their target. Most other roles will not be mentioned in the use of their powers directly, necessarily, unless they have a definitive impact on the game. The Day 1 story didn't really have anything of that nature, 'cause, as you know, there's no killing that can occur during Night 0. ;)

Well look at the story Lois and Clark are together and Lois knows Clark is the blur (thats what i got from reading it) So it has to be atleast Season 8,9,10 mabey 7 ? Mostly 9 and 10 probabaly?
Also, well it isnt happening but who knows. Notice in the story Clark saved Lois, Did lois get attacked already? Or could it be just apart of the story?

2) No, that "Lois getting attacked" element of the story was simply a way of setting up the story and giving you all a feel for the time period in which this game was taking place. :)

The Cult recruits players into a faction similar to a Mason group. A Cult will usually have a Cult Leader who 'starts' the cult, and is able to recruit players (called 'Cultists'.)

The Cult recruits players into a faction similar to a Mason group. A Cult will usually have a Cult Leader who 'starts' the cult, and is able to recruit players (called 'Cultists'.)


So would it start out as only Darkseid? I don't know... I always felt a Cult was used WITH a Mafia. Unless maybe Darkseid starts with a few minions (Role blocker, spy) and can recruit others.

It is usually used with a Mafia. It s a third party group. However I am wondering if this could be adapted for the game. Its possible that there are a group of people who have the Omega symbol, maybe Darkseid began alone, or with a few people, but he has the chance to take them over.
There could always be a back up Cult leader.

Darkseid has not taken the form of a human like many other villains in the past have. He seems to materialize out of some unknown smoke.. if I was modding the mafia game I would definitely describe that as phantom like. I think that is what they did here.

However the bullet mention leaves me wondering. Darkseid does not use bullets so I am confused, did Slade?

It's definitely more likely that they are all working seperately rather than together. Villains, unlike heroes don't really work together. That would mean that we have several groups against the townies again though.

Last game you changed up your game play to seem like a good guy instead of a bad guy to gain more trust since you knew people would look at diffrent patterns of game play you made it seem like you were a good guy and no the scum you were last game (In LOST you did this so the Last game im referring to would be TSM)

Darkseid is definitely the GF or Cult leader..... I really think that it is going to be a kill or take over type thing like the Others in Lost Mafia. I have a feeling that certain people cannot be converted so when they are targeted they die for example Chloe. And others who are targeted become part of the cult like Oliver.

I really hope that at least one of the possible groups wasn't included. This game is difficult enough with one group of scum, anymore just makes things that much harder!

To clarify, I am not exactly suspicious of him. He is the only person who I have seen reason to state something about. No one else has done anything worth mentioning yet, that I have picked up on.

Personally I think some people will def come into the game with a vision of Onox as scum, possibly E because of her 'anger' or whatever she has got from last game. He has been scum both games she has played, it isn't like she knows when to trust him. lol

If this game is anything like Lost, where the Others were able to target certain traitors to join them, then I think that's highly likely here, that people could get turned by the darkness or whoever it is
