I didn't wanna put my real name out on the internet so I came up with this name. I like having the initials C.C. so I picked up a baby name book and thumbed through that.

Went to the girls section and I liked Claire because it meant "bright" and "clear." But I chose a variation, Clari, because I like first names that end in "i."

Went to the boys section for the last name, and I liked Clyde because it meant "stream" and had connotations of "being hidden" or "hard to find."

So, how'd y'all come up with your screen names?

I just use my initials and 2001...because its futuristic. Or at least it was up until about 1990...but I'm behind the times.

One of my coworkers was hopelessly cynical about everything he came across, but unlike most other cynics, he was quite cheerful about it. One would think that seeing the bad in everything would be more depressing.

So I pointed this out, and started laughing about how he was a cynic, but a jolly cynic. But it backfired. My other coworkers all said that I was pretty much the same way, always joyfully pointing out the problems in any plan, telling everybody that everything was doomed to failure while smiling and laughing about it.

So the nickname got shifted. I hate it when my evil backfires.

Mine is so dull compaired to the hilarity that is 'JollyCynic' :)

As I didn't want to use my real name and I was a huge massive anime fan at the time, I put my name into a translator and used it in Japanese -- althought I've got no idea how accurate/close it really is to my given name.

Now most people shorten it to 'Chiri' (or Chi, either is fine by me) which actual means paper over there. *shrugs*

Boring, but it works. :)

I'm an aspiring actor and so I'd been looking for a screen name to use for some time (once I broke into the film industry) so while I was driving around the city I saw a sign and I really loved the name... Tayler... so I just started using it...

Boring, but it works. :) Paper's not boring! I used to study design and one of the classes I took was on print production and manufacturing processes. Paper is interesting -- all the different textures and grains and opacity and weights. And if you ever pick up a big name design journal or magazine, you'll see that paper mills spend big bucks to get their samples in just perfect.

I wanted something funny with kryptonite in it, but kryptonite weasel just had too many bad connotations. I didn't want people mistaking me for a lawyer or something, so I went with monkey. Besides, supes was already taken. :p

Could be that I like it's definition: "one that arouses awe, astonishmnet, surprise, or admiration; a marvel." Sounds neat, right?!

Or could it be that I am "an event inexplicable by the laws of nature; a miracle"? No, my existence is not any kind of miracle, but some might tend to say that my personality is quite inexplicable.

Yet, I think it's ...the plain ol' fact that I "wonder" (a feeling of puzzlement or doubt) a lot.

I got my screen name from my website: Fortress of El, which is a little play on words. Fortress of Solitude and Kal-El. So, my website is El's Fortress...where Kal-El and I have a happy life. :) So, anyway, I keep the house, do the laundry, make supper, you know, the usual...so I'm the Fortress Keeper. My screen name on the internet is usually violingirl...except when it is Superman related. I play violin...I'm obsessed with the violin! :)

Wow, I made that half-way interesting...being that it is a really boring screen name. Well, maybe I'm just bias.

Well a major record label in the states is called Arista records and that's the first time I heard the name. It has a mystical feel to it, but the real reason I picked the username "Arista" is because it sounded cool, yeah I know I'm a ham:p There's actually meaning behind the 07, though. Well, my username is the name of the site, but the *site* got its name because I started a Lois & Clark fan club/newsletter called the Krypton Club. That newsletter became called Planet Krypton, and I wanted to name my domain PlanetKrypton.com but the name was taken, so I did KryptonSite which is a play on Kryptonite - Kryptonite with an S in it. And what does the S stand for? Superman! (Or something.)

Um...you know now that I think about it...my names kind of stupid...
The names of the first two characters I ever came up with for original fiction were Delilah and Angel (cut me some slack- I was like- 10, lol). So when I got into Smallville, started writing fic for it, and joined Ksite, I just used them as my username.
Now I guess I like it because its a bit of an oxymoron. Delilah was a biblical seductress and an angel is supposed to be pure and holy and all that.
Or maybe Ive just convinced myself of that because I really dont feel like changing it.

I'm in the Society for Creative Anachronism, which is a medieval re-enactment group. If you're really curious about the SCA, it's offical website is www.sca.org.

My persona's name is Beatrix of Tanet, so when I was looking for a screen name for K-site, I picked Thanet, which is what the isle is called now. Except that the isle silted in around the late 1700's so now it's just a part of England.

And no, I'm not in the UK, I'm in Iowa. Calontir, by SCA's map.

You have to realize that I began reading and collecting comics WHEN I WAS 4 YRS OLD, cuz the boy next door who I played with brought the first comic book I'd ever seen over one day and told me he was COLLECTING them, because his Dad told him SOMEDAY THEY'D BE WORTH A LOT OF MONEY!

I said, "Mommy, can I collect comic books, too?!!" {little Rose etta jumped up and down animatedly in her pink sundress}, and began amassing the whole Superman/DC group + the Scrooge McDuck/Disney group. This began at the end of the 50's, when "Truth, Justice and the American way" was a pure ideal (yes, there really was such a time, my little cynical snickerers).

Let's just say that I grew up utterly imbued with the entire Superman ethos. So, the emotion was deep for me to hear Clark finally utter his name, "Kal-El", after Dr. Swann so kindly connected him to his heritage -- well, to me it's the finest single spoken word in the whole series.

Hence, Rose etta, in honor of that ep plus showing that I'm a girl.

It's the name I've been using on forums and the Internet in general for years.

It also happens to be my first name (Shaun) and last name (Ewing). The lowercase and lack of spaces comes habit and the way usernames once had to be. I decided to break away from the 3rd username criteria - <= 8 characters :)

It's the name of a character I use in a lot of my writings, and a bit of a play on words.

Sian = Cyan (blue)
Raven = Bird

Sian Raven = blue bird.

But where I got it from, I have no idea. My old net name was Mmy, which I got from a licence plate. :rolleyes:

I used to have my initials as my screen name but as I'm getting married next year, my initials will change. (I'm dropping my middle name altogether and scootching my last name to my middle name.)

I've had various other usernames as well:

KBoogie24 = I used to really be into Lauryn Hill, whose nickname in the Fugees was L-Boogie. K is my first initial.
Kat5107 = Kat and the 5107 looks like Lois if you turn it upside down.
LnCRocks = when I was into Lois & Clark.
KatCuzDog = an inside joke from high school.

The story basically goes as such; I was camping with friends a few years ago and I was the only one who could light the fire. Hehe. So everyone else used to try to put it out on purpose, to annoy me, or put it out when they were adding wood to it.

So they ended up calling themselves the Slayerettes, because we were all Buffy fans and they kept 'slaying' the fire with 'stakes'. I gave up (lighting the fire) after a few days because it was getting annoying to have to re-light the fire when they'd deliberately put it out, so instead I ruined their attempts to light fires by blowing out their matches before they could get it near the wood. So they called me Huffy and I was slaying the Campfire. So I've kind of stuck with it as a humourous screenname ever since.

I am addicted to the movie "The Matrix", and 'follow the white rabbit' was the phrase that eventually led Neo to Morpheus, making it the most important line in the movie in my opinion. My screenname is Dukegirl because it all started with the Dukes of Hazzard. I once read an article in the SFX, a British magazine about SF and Fantasy. It was about Smallville - at that time I only knew it had something to with Superman in his teens. I suddenly came across the name "John Schneider". I thought, hey, it's Bo Duke, now I gotta see this!
I did a lot of research, read everything I could about Smallville but found out the first season had already been aired on Kanaal2 in Belgium (my native) - the SFX I read was from March this year. In a few weeks season 2 will air and I'll be able to actually *watch* Smallville (FINALLY, I've waited too long...).
And because I owe so much to DoH, I consider it fair to call myself Dukegirl...

Wow, several X-Men fans here, woo-hoo!!! And M?! *gasp* Haven't seen even a MENTION of a GenX character in ages, so that was exciting. LOL, anyways... my screen name ALSO comes from an X-Men character. "S" stands for Sam... Sam Guthrie, a.k.a. "Cannonball," of the New Mutants, X-Force, the X-Men, and now X-Treme X-Men. He's been my fave character from the series for ages, mainly because I identify with him on so many fronts. He's young, idealistic, rather naive sometimes, tall and lanky, a bit awkward, but extremely friendly, compassionate, and a Christian to boot! All of those characteristics really sum me up pretty well.

Heh... I have been using my current nick now for about 7 years. All this erasing thing started with the game Duke Nukem 3D (Now I prefer DFBHD) where I very enjoyed to erase my oponents from the screen and so I started to use an apropriate nickname for that :D. The same was later when I started to play Warcraft II (still my favorite in the RTS field and I have played lots of RTS).
Actualy, now I'm playing only one game - Hattrick (online) :).

P.S. If life is to consider as a game then this one would be the second game I'm still playing :)).

My nick is from James Cameron's Dark Angel, which I followed up until the midway of the second season, where the whole thing started to come apart.

Anyway, even after the show started to sucked, I had already signed up with a bunch of stuff with the nick X6861, and I didn't really want to go change ALL of them, and it's also pretty easy to remember, so I guess I'll be X6861 forever.

Well, I have a fancy towards Nuclear Man from Superman IV cuz he slashed Superman's neck and was quite a worthy adversary... But in the end Supes still showed him what's up...

Notice also Nuclear Man was conceived when Superman threw a rocket into the sun, effectively providing the Luthor-created embryo with the radiation to become Nuclear Man... Some of my posts deal with Clark throwing enemies into the sun, which I would love to see but I know it would never happen....

I'm a big fan of the author David Eddings. He wrote this series about about "Pandion Knights" (it was sort of a midevil thing) and in it were these amazon people who belonged to a race of people called the Tamul. Female Tamuli's were called Atana and male Tamuli were called Atan. There was a character named Mirtai, one of the woman of the Tamul and when people would speak of her they would call her Atana Mirtai.

I was reading the book when I first went online to try to find a bboard for Farscape which had just had one whallop of a cliffhanger for it's second season. When I needed to enter a screen name I used it because it was the only thing that came to mind... I was kind of in a hurry.

My friends at that board over time shortened it to just plain "Atana" and that's who I've been ever since.

Plus it sounds a little bit like my "real" name.

The Origin of Fudrom

I had an oddball friend name Jason Fedrizzi when I was 14. He was more of a geek than a nerd and had this wild "captain caveman" hair. The guys that did associate with him nicknamed him Fud. Why exactly, I don't know.

In my history class one of my friends and I drew comic strips, and often Fud was the center of our stories, in a good way. I created Fud-rom, a man who could change at will into a being that was mechanical superhero. Fud was named for my friend and Rom came from the computer term. He was sort of cross between Iron Man, Robocop and the Terminator. Fud-rom eventually just became Fudrom and so it stuck. My friend Fedrizzi "Fud" thought I just had way too much time on my hands, he probably was right. :D

Anyway, I've used the name Fudrom for just about anything, as it is original and I can't say I've seen it anywhere else. Anyway, is anyone still awake out there? :lol:

The 1989 is because I was born in 1989. I was wondering though if people were going to think I put 1989 because of the Meteor Shower.

My nickname, applecrash, came from a defining moment in my life. At age five I was in an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) accident when the ATV I was in hit an apple tree head on. I went into a coma for twenty days and required physical and speech therapy for quite some time after that. The event became a life-changing event in some bad ways and some good. I am who and how I am because of that one event - crashing into an apple tree.

That's how I became applecrash! :\

one of my favorite hebrew names is daniel. sounds good in both hebrew and english. of course michael is nice. i like the way it sounds better in hebrew though. hahaha i'll start calling MR by the hebrew name. well he is an angel ;)

Several people have nick-named me ‘angel’. The nickname because of a sense of purity as well as they said, an angel face. Though, It's not that I'm a 'goody-goody' - just different.

My screen name is a nick name i was given at college. My friends named me after a demon from Buffy as we had been talking about it for a whole lesson and i became very fond of it. We thought it looked like a Slug but it's actually more of a cockroach looking thing.

The story behind my handle is one that is most close to my heart. It all started about seven years ago…

In the Year of our Lord, nineteen hundred and ninety seven, I was just beginning to learn my way around the internet, and I was getting fairly good at it. The time had come for me to open my first e-mail account. It was something I had long known was coming, for my best friend had been pushing me on the matter for quite some time. So I chose Hotmail to hold my precious little secrets, it seamed to be a decent web based service, and indeed it was. I was trucking along, filling out all the required fields as though I had been doing it for years, when it happened, I came across the “Desired User Name”. Blank and menacing, it caught me off guard. For I was unaware of what I wanted my first e-mail address to be. All I knew for sure was that it would end with @hotamil.com. As I stared at the screen, I quickly come to the conclusion that I did not want this to be a normal ‘first name and initial’ type account. I longed for an online personality, a handle which could contain not only my identity, but my very soul. I thought to myself “Well, what do I like? What seams to fit me and my personality?” Just then, my mind recalled an episode of Warner Brother’s Pinky & the Brain, the blasted thing seamed to be operating on auto pilot at this time. A question lingered toward the back of my skull “How often does my brain work when I’m not using it? Is it always on auto pilot?” Once again I quickly remember my task at hand, and realized that the character Pinky has a lot in common with me, and I do so love him. So I said to myself “Perhaps on auto pilot my mind is not as random as I thought it to be. It very well could be more pertinent than when I am given the rains.” So trusting on the reliable instincts of my own brain, I chose Pinky as the first half of my address. I say first half, because I knew without hesitation that the lone moniker of Pinky@hotmail.com was most likely taken. So I searched for a last name to what was quickly becoming a most elaborate handle. And oddly enough, the movie Austen Powers came to mind. I had never seen it, but I put the two together for laughs all the same. And the most unexpected thing happened. I liked what I had created, Pinky Powers. And so I have used it ever since for dozens of registrations and accounts all over this big wide web thing. Today most of my closest friends use Pinky as an interchangeable substitute for my birth name, and nothing could please me more. For it keeps my sometimes extravagant head at a reasonable diameter, and is a constant reminder that I should not take myself or life, too seriously.
