I don't believe you can compare too much.

I don't read comic books so No. I don't have any preconceived notions about Smallville to the comics and I think it is easier to enjoy the show.

I do, sometimes, I can find a lot in the last two seasons to compare to the comics. However, not too much as these are Clark's younger years which always for some freedoms. Some stuff I tend to retcon out my mind. You won't enjoy yourself if you nitpick everything and the comics itself varies from generation and can conflict with itself. So I don't do it too often, only on key consistent portrayals from the comics I'm stickler for being respected.

See, i have the opposite approach. I come to Smallville with all sorts of baggage. Those notions come from 1,000 different incarnations. So, as a fan, I enjoy the challenge TPTB have to bring these characters to us in a new but respectful way. Sometimes they hit it out of the park and sometimes, not so much. IMHO, on the whole, they have done a fantastic job. 10 years and I'm still on this ride!

Comics is comics. Smallville is Smallville.

I see them as 2 different retellings of the same story. Start and finish are the same, it's only the journey that differs.

I only partly agree here. I would say Smallville is what it is, other Super shows are ahows, the movies are what they are, Anjmation is what it is, and comics are comics. Each of those media have more than one "take" on things.

Not that I almost agree, I do agree. I just think the statement that they are 2 separate stories is incomplete. Even within the comics there are more than 2 re-tellings of the Superman Origin story. Comparing Smallville to the comics in a general way over simplifies it imo. It's not that I disagree, it's just a much more complex issue for me than Smallville vs. comics in general.

I don't really compare Smallville to the comics at all, I view Smallville as its own mythos now completely separate from the Superman mythos. And thats not a bad thing. I enjoy the Superman comics but I also enjoy a fresh take on its characters represented in Smallville. If Smallville did follow the comics we would have not gotten the awesome characters Chloe Sullivan and Tess Mercer! :D

I mostly base on the comic interpretations of the characters in their personalities back stories and changing events does not bother me as much as when some character says something that does not feel right.

They have really changed story line from the comics... But they have to make new characters ore else the series dies:(

I used to when the show first came on, looking for things that fit with the comics, like the vision of Lex in the oval office, but ever since season 5 or so and they introduced Brainiac and Zod, I've just accepted that the show has its own mythology.

Yes. Itīs hard not to compare to much... And if I ore sombody else pull to many comparasing we will stop watching:( But the series i legendary!!!
The best so far(I havenīt seen the shows from early 1900). The series has the best effects in a series with powers I have seen so far ever:D:D:D

I see alot of similarities between Smallville and alot of superman/superboy comics:

golden age- Superman developed his ability slowly after he became superman and gain his flight ten years after he became superman, he was more or a less of a vigilante working in the shadows before working with goverment, SV Clark decision to become a reporter is pretty much the same as GA Clark, his reporter is assertive with a little mild mannered/meekness/bumbling, may have been part of the JSA(or JLA) but was AN HONORARY member

silver age- he saved people before he became superman when he was younger, he met people like Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Lex Luthor, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Batman, Bizarro, Phantom Zone and Zod, Mr.Mxyzlplk and people when he was superboy/before superman, hIS Foster parents died, he knew about his kryptonian past when he was younger, may have been part of the JLA but wasn't a big role in it

Donnerverse- Fortress of solitude with Jor-el A.I. and kryptonian training, he wanted to be normal, his dad died of a heartattack, krypton, house of el crest is superman symbol, his powers grew as he grew older, he tries to balance his kryptonian and human self

modern age(post Man of Steel-birthright): he played football in high school, he views himself as Clark Kent/human instead of kryptonian from season 1-8, he save people and averted disasters in secret for 7 years(did in Metropolis for 3 years before he was forced to save Lois which help develop his superhero identity), his powers grew as he grew older, he wasn't a big part of the JLA at first but became an important member

it's superman, LOSH in the 31st century Cartoon/comic, Superman the movie, superman return and prequel comics, Man of Steel, DCAU young Clark,Superman Earth One, Superman for all seasons show Clark trying to try to find his way in the world/fit in and learning how to be a hero, human as well as kryptonian ,

and this is just clark and not the other characters in dc comics like brainiac but it is it's own universe and a retelling of the superman/dc comics mythos like many before it and it defiently won't be the last one

Okej.... Try not to write a paper when you write like this in the future please! Itīs to much that you take in every detail... Do not take this the wrong way. Just try to write less the other time/times you write here...
