I am trying to summarize each season of Smallville by a word or phrase. Here is what I have so far. But I would like some suggestions.

Season 1 - Freak of the Week.
Almost each episode features a meteor infected person. Only Rogue and Tempest do not. Leech and Nicodemus arent FoW's but ppl are influenced my some sort of power.

Season 2 - Secrets & Lies.
Although I dont think Lana says this until season 4, Every character(and I do mean every character) throughout the season has a secret, want's to know the truth or is lying about something.

Season 3 - Rebirths
From the very beginning, Clark is trying to reinvent himself as Kal. He then has to come home and start over, trying to make up for his mistakes. Lionel is involved in experiments that resurrect ppl from the dead (Adam). Morgan Edge "reinvents" himself. Lex attempts to learn from and work with his father (which is a new concept for him). He teeters on the edge of sanity and has to come back from electro-shock therapy in which his memories were wiped. He then tries to revive past memories in order to bring his father down. Finally, Clark is taken by Jor-El to be reborn.

Season 4 - Sacrifice
Clark has to sacrifice his love of football. Lana has to return to US in order to figure out what's up with the tattoo. Alicia gives up Clarks secret to Chloe. Alicia dies....I don't know about this season's theme. help.

Season 5 - Loss
Smallville is trying to recup from the 2nd meteor shower. Clark losses his abilities. Pa Kent dies. Lex loses his morality. Martha leaves.

Season 6 - Teamwork
Clark has to learn to work with others such as Oliver & MMH for the greater good. Clark and Lex have to work together to get out of a imploded tunnel. Lexana. Episode 11:Justice.

Season 7 - Identity
Bizarro takes Clarks identity. Lana doesnt recognize it. Clark meets his Mom, which helps him understand his identity. Clark is identified as the Traveler.

Season 8 - Duplicity
Clark works at the DP in Metropolis and lives on a farm in Smallville. Tess is very duplicitous. Davis has a split personality. Chloe acts completely out of character and harbors a serial killer. Clark starts work as the Blur while being a reporter by day. Lana had a hidden agenda.

Season 9 - Acceptance
Clarks journey of accepting his Kryptonian heritage as well as his human side. Chloe has to accept the death of Jimmy and the bad decisions she has made that led up to that.
Oliver has to accept his parents death, his actions in Lex's disappearance and a new relationship with Chloe.

So what do you think?

Hi and welcome to the boards!

I think you have done a fine job picking a theme for each season. IMO you nailed 6, 7, 8, and 9. Here is a wonderful visual summery. The perfect line from each season to give us the "main" point. One of my all time favorites! I get chill bumps every time I watch it.

Omg, I loved that preview of season 10, it looks so professional. The CW should use this as the promo for next season :).

Very cool theory here. It fits very nicely. And I agree with Season 4, there isn't much of a theme for that one. Season 7 could be to, but that's just personal thoughts on that season. Lol. All in all this is a really good idea.

Also to the poster whoe dropped the link to the video.:eek: Holy cow!!! That was awesome!!! And you are right it fits great with this thread.

That video was very well done. It does get me excited for Season 10.:)

I am thinking that for Season 4 a better theme might be. Knowledge. Here some reasons why:

Lionel, Lex, and the Teagues are all seeking the stones of knowledge. Those stones of course would come together and form an ultimate source of knowledge for Clark (the Fortress of Solitude). Chloe gains knowledge of Clark's secret. At the very end, Lionel is granted knowlege, by being a vessel for Jor-EL (or is that in season 5?)

Lionel as the vessel was set-up in Season 4, so technically you can say that it fits with your theory.

Overriding themes of each season:

Season One--Meteor rocks and their effects on people
Season Two--The Octagonal Disc
Season Three--Clark's Blood
Season Four--the three stones that came together
Season Five--Brainiac
Season Six--The villains from the Phantom Zone
Season Seven--Kara
Season Eight--Doomsday
Season Nine--Major Zod

You'll notice that each of these themes is some object/person not from Earth.

Season One - Who am I?
Season Two - Where am I from?
Season Thee - Who do I trust?
Season Four - What is my mission?
Season Five - Where do we go from here?
Season Six - Who's going out with who?
Season Seven - What was I truly sent here to do?
Season Eight - How do I create a secret identity?
Season Nine - How can I lead two lives and be satisfied with both?

I like these two extra theories. Actually, all the theories and the video have been really excellent.

I actually really like this. These themes are from Clark's perspective. Which what the whole show is about right.

Season One--Meteor rocks and their effects on people
Season Two--The Octagonal Disc
Season Three--Clark's Blood
Season Four--the three stones that came together
Season Five--Brainiac

These themes are basically the antagonists of the seasons, for the most part. So that's a very good theory too.

I like how usually, each episode as well as each season has a basic theme running though it. Especially in the beginning, I could see that in each episode several characters would be facing the same sort of situations or problems. Or they would have to use the same prinicpals to solve a problem or situation.
