Clark or Buffy?

I've started this thread over @ the CW Lounge and it's a moderatley sucessful thread over there. So I thought I would start it over here and see how the ppl will respond to it. Seeing how it covers two of the most popular WB/CW characters of all-time!

I've been watching some videos of Buffy The Vampire Slayer on youtube and of course Smallville just ended their 9th season last week. Both shows have been on the top of my mind as of late and I just couldn't believe how many similarites there is between these two characters. From relationships, to losses, to sacificing themselves to save the world, etc.

Now both Clark Kent and Buffy Summers have MANY similarites between them that it's not even funny. But which of these "Chosen Ones" do you prefer out of the two? The kryptonian or the Slayer. You choose and you could explain if you like. Do enjoy! ;)

I vote Clark Kent because......well............he ultimately becomes Superman. The protector and savior of all mankind. Now don't get me wrong. I love Buffy. She's my favorite female character of all-time and is more kick-ass than Clark. But there is just no arguing with Superman. Plus Buffy stops being the Slayer in the series finale of her show but Clark's destiny continues for all enternity. So Clark FTW! :D:D

I chose Clark because he's Clark, and he's eventually going to be Superman so I had to. :D

BUT

I LOVE BUFFY... and Angel (huge Joss Whedon fan)... and Charmed!!!! I watched every ep of Buffy while it was on, as well as Angel and Charmed, and am in the midst of buying them all as well. I already own every season of Smallville, except 9 (and obviously 10). I have a thing for heroes of all forms lol

Clark, definitely. I think I would've had a tougher time choosing between Clark and Angel. They both act like they carry the world's problems over their shoulders.

I can't vote. Because if I vote for Clark Kent, i know it's a vote for Smallville's Clark, who would never beat Buffy for me.

But if I vote for Buffy, I feel like i'm not voting for my favourite character of all time... which Clark Kent is and always will be.

My top characters of all time would probably go like this:

1. Clark Kent (as he is in Lois and Clark and various other interpretations).

3. Lois Lane (mostly Teri Hatchers, but Erica's doing okay with a sometimes god awful script)

9. Malcolm Reynolds (Firefly)
10. Clark Kent (on Smallville)

14. Max (Dark Angel)
15. George (Dead Like Me)... and I'm gonna stop there before the list becomes ridiculously long :lol:

Clark Kent and Buffy Summers can't be fairly compared to be honest as they are vastly different characters. Besides having super powers (though Buffy's aren't so strong that fighting her would be pointless).

I agree with this I don't see how they are really at all similar. She's smarter than Clark, funnier, and doesn't super shove people in every fight.she sometimes gets upset over being the chosen one but not like a Clark Kent ten year only wanna be normal level. She's an all around better hero than Clark who doesn't go around worrying about protecting her secret. I just think Buffy is obviously the better hero, and pretty much a way better show than Clark or smallville will ever be.

That wasn't where I was going with my post. And as for Clark supershoving people you can't really blame Smallville for that. You can just blame the guys that made Superman so overpowered in the first place. That's the one problem I've always had with the Superman character is that he can never lose. Buffy protecting her secret and Clark doing so are two different things. And as far as the whole complaining thing goes let's not forget that Buffy ran away from her Slayer duties on a couple of occassions.

I voted Buffy--I'm a bigger fan of Superman than Buffy, but the fact of the matter is Buffy was much better written on a consistant basis than Smallville's Clark was.

If you asked if I liked George Reeve's version Clark better than Buffy, I'd have said draw. Reeves made a great Clark, but Sara Michelle Geller was smoking hot.

Hope that's a valid reason.

I never really got into Buffy the Vampire Slayer and have thought about collecting the box sets at some point. In saying that, due to my familiarity with the Smallville universe as opposed to Buffy's, I vote Clark.

I have all seasons (that are available in the case of SV...obviously don't have S10 yet) but I can't even go back and watch certain epis of SV because they are that bad, imo.

I have no problem re-watching Buffy.

So Buffy it is...(even story lines I wasn't necessarily a fan of...)

Apples and oranges. Both shows were great, for different reasons. The dynamics were very different. Buffy grew up in a broken home with an absentee father, a great mom who had a hard time understanding what Buffy was, a domineering Watcher who inevitably became a father figure for Buffy. Clark, though adopted, grew up with the classic solid family background that formed the basis of his moral convictions.

It's greatly appreciated to see this thread get bumped up again.

For those who don't think there any comparsion between Clark or Buffy, be that if it may however the reason why I made this thead is because there TWO of my favorite characters off all-time and I thought it be kinda unique to make a thread about it. Sure they may have been great shows for different reasons but who says I can't compare the characters even if they aren't exactly alike?
