I think I'd go with that song from the season 3 DVD, you know when you turn it out waiting for the meue(sp) to come up. I love that song.

I made 4 different verison of one of my favorite scenes of season 7, it made me laugh so hard, it was so funny. I just love it:D The banners aren't great but it's the best I can do right now. I'm better with SV art.

Yup, let me get my trusty Watcher's Guide Vol.2 out.

It says its "Chinese Burn" by Curve.

"Empty Places" did have Nerf Herder the last band to play at The Bronze. The band that did the BtVS theme music :).

I was watching Saving Private Ryan today, one of the greatest films on WW2, and I saw Nathan Fillion also known to us as Caleb and on Firefly Capt. Mal Reynolds. He was so young in the movie, but man he delivered one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

He was mistaken for the actual Private Ryan, and he just crying in fear that his little brothers are killed. Saying over and over again "I need to go home" :(. Nathan is incredible.

Nathan was also a Preist in DRACULA 2000. It wasn't anything stand out, but he influences the main character and her actions early on.

Yea, at first my sister Suzie and I were like  "That's Caleb!!!", then my other sister says "It's Capt. Mal". We are just so in love with Nathan. Talk about yummy goodness, and great actor. You can tell it was him with the way he talks, and moves his jaw. Plus can't forget how his face looks. He is just younger, and little smaller. He had a small scene, but man he carried terrifically.

Caleb is one of my favorite mini-bads :D.

Today was released the Chosen Collection so here is a review from Entertaiment Weekly:

http://www.whedon.info/article.php3?id_article=12497

Here are some highlights:

''There are some things you can’t state often enough, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the seminal TV shows of the last 50 years. In the top 10. Not open for debate.''

''Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a titanic achievement, one worth holding on to so you can show your children.''

However I agree with the editorial review about the bonus material, I think that one of the things that most Buffy fans wanted to see, including myself, where deleted scenes, that probably we never will get to see.

I love EW. They were such a strong supporter of the show in all aspects from the beginning :D.

We know they were deleted scenes especially from "Chosen". Joss said he doesn't want to put them on the boxset :(. Even though Angel dvd had a deleted scene in S3, and in Firefly :(.

Yeah, that is one of the things that I most wanted to see; not only from Chosen, I know that there should be alot of great deleted scenes from Hush, Once more with feeling, all the season finales among others. Overall almost all the episodes end with 2 or 3 deleated scenes. I know that much of them should be fun to watch.

Actually, majority of the episodes really didn't have deleted scenes. Joss and writers was able to put majority of the script inside the episode because they were real big on organization. The known deleted scenes in BtVS are from:
-"Smashed" extended version of the end
-"Dead Things" extended version
-"Lies My Parents Told Me" with a Giles/Buffy scene
-"Empty Places" alternate confrontation at the end. It was shown a little bit in the trailer though.
-"Chosen"

Those are the known deleted scenes. There really wasn't a lot. OMWF is extremely edited only in the syndicated version. Nothing was cut in the originally airing. Joss did an interview on deleted scenes.

Dallies are more scene now though.

11-16-2005, 03:52 PM
Why doesn't he want to put the deleted scene on the DVD?

Summers
11-16-2005, 03:57 PM
Because what you saw on episode was what they were going for. There is really no need to have them which is why they didn't have much as compared to SV which as a lot lol. There was just no need for it he basically said.

aqua
11-16-2005, 04:30 PM
There might not have been a need plotline value, but still would be enjoyable to watch. :\

Oh, anyone see that Dead Things.. well, not deleted scene, but uncensored version? That was- different.

Summers
11-16-2005, 04:44 PM
There really wasn't a lot though because they were far more organized. You know when a tv shows has too many deleted scenes they spent too much money. Networks really don't like that type of carelessness with their money.

The one that would be worth seeing is the alternate confrontation in "Empty Places" which I forgot to mention which was actually shown a itty bitty bit in the trailer. Never used, and major editing in that scene.

I saw it. Nothing much really nor was "Smashed". "Dead Things"(another I forgot to add). and "Smashed" really didn't show much as compared what is shown now four years later. It's just extended is all, and really IMO kinda of a waste to download.

I love the dallies more than deleted scenes at times especially with BtVS.

She was in "Help" because she beat up her bully, and then appeared in "Potential" found out she was one. Then went on from there. She kicked nearly everyone's ass at Dungeons and Dragons, only one to say they were getting punished for kicking Buffy out, and died in "Chosen". She had long, straight brown hair.

Yeah great Chosen avatar.

Talking about credits, do you all remember the Superstar Jonathan opening credits, they were very funny, well I remember when Storyteller aired that I read a great review and it said that the only thing that the episode was missing was an alternate opening credits from Andrew's point of view, now, that would had been cool , so bad they did not thinked about that or simply didn't had the time or money.

yellowqueen22
11-19-2005, 11:27 AM
I loved the alternate credits for Jonathan... they were amazing. While the idea of alternate credits for Storyteller is interesting... I'm actually happy they didn't do it. Mainly because even though he was the focus telling the story... he still focused his story on Buffy... therefor the credits wouldn't make sense. Whereas Jonathan actually changed the story to focus on him. What would have been cool is if they changed the credits to still be focused on the way Andrew filmed & saw the cast, and with him narrating or something. Ok... just read you response and maybe that's what you were getting at with "from Andrew's point of view"... I'm officially still half asleep.

That was one of my favorite parts of the episode. It was so freakin cool how they messed with the credits to include all these so called Johnathan moments.

Johnathan was da man... :D

By the way,

What did you think of Solitude? I looked for your review, and did not see one.

I loved that they changed the end credits to having the moster sing his little opera heart out!!!! I love that Team Whedon wasn't afraid to mess with convention like that.

They missed with the end creadits too? Which episodes? I totally missed whatever they did.

Here's the ones that I can recall off the top of my head:

1) "Once More with a Feeling" as we've already discussed here.

2) "Chosen" - don't recall the variation.

3) "Amends" - I think he had a Santa cap on.

Okay, now I'm drawing a blank. Cue Mel.

What I loved about the Jonathan credits is that the very end was a shout out to Angel's credits .

Frankly, I loved the episode (which makes over in the season four episodes I loved). It's just I was apprehensive to even post a review because well not many people liked the episode, and sometimes people can be kinda....well not polite :(. I was a cowardly lion basically which is very OOC for me.

Wow, I'm cued .

"Chosen" had the little demon turn his head and "argh" us. That was my avater was from two weeks ago.

"OMWF" Jennifer said. He sang "Grr..Argh" opera style :D.

'Amends" The Santa Cap

"Graduation Pt.2" He has Graduation Cap on his head

"Becoming Pt.2" He said "Aw..I Need A Hug"

"Storyteller" He sang "We Are Gods"

Fans (including me) would just wait until the end credits to see of the little demon did anything else new :rotfl:.

Talking about Superstar, I actaully did not enjoyed that much the episode, I think that the premise was interesting but I really did not liked the episode. A few weeks ago I felt the urge to watch Superstar, I don't know, wanted to see it again and did not enjoyed that much, but oh well, whatever.

Summers, that is weird about Solitude because all I have heard are great things about the episode, there is always negatives reviews but overall they were all very positive.

I saw the Chosen collection today, had it on my hands and is beautiful, I want it know!...

Did anyone read about that the release of Serenity on DVD can be pushed away because the copies might not be ready for next month?

Not on this board. The days it followed it was revered as "boring" :\. Many people didn't like it at all. It was more mixed which, in fact, surprised.

I saw it a store too. Over two hundred bucks .

I'm going into my Economic mode for a second . Bare with me lol.

Being pushed back sure we might wait longer, however, look at this way:

We know the dvd sales incorporate into revenue/profit of the film---> which can be the breaking point of doing a sequel which we already know Joss had a plan B of making it into a trilogy----> being pushed back-----> makes more copies-----> more people buy-----> and perhaps a sequel :D

Well the first day I read great responses right now I can't find any..lol. I thought it was good, still think Splinter was better. I just felt like the Martha thing was rehearsed from season 2 and there was not actual threath since we know that they are waiting to the 100 episode to make their move, other than that was a great episode.

yeah, I saw it today and it was exactly $199.99, that considering that the individual box sets collection is over $300 is not a bad price.

I don't know the movie being pushed back is about company that is making the DVD have now to acomodate the movie to a shelude where there is not space for it.

It's goes in waves lol. I know it got less responses in that forum compared to the "Splinter" forum. I know why the various reviews, but then we call wager why .

A lot of things were reherased from S2. I felt Jonathan's loft scene was very rehearse. Needless to say I kinda knew what he was going to say before he said it .

For a newbie yea very good, but hey the individuals are so pretty and they will just as rare. Kinda like VHS tapes of Star Wars .

It could be a mixture of both. I just know if there are more copies, then more happy consumers because more people buy dvds now than the movies these days.

I feel that way about Smallville all the time, last year I felt like the football story was already taken care of. Now, this thing about Martha. The Clana, agian , I felt like we already went there and why it did not worked out, however all they ever did was get mooney eyes, since they were in a relationship for exactly one episode.

I love my individual boxes but if I had a lot of money i wolud not hesitate to buy the chosen collection.

Summers
11-26-2005, 05:15 PM
Not to be too technical, but I am . Those are 12" dolls not action figures which are 6". The 6" are actually quite low. I bought two 6" with only 30 bucks. Those 12" dolls that are $80 are actually quite right in the doll market price. They are collectible dolls with high price of demand. When the demand is high the prices are always high for it. Simple supply and demand model.

Not saying they aren't ridicuosly overpriced, but pointing the doll market and supply/demand. My 12" dolls for Star Wars were similar in price at times depending on the demand. Just how the market works.

Basically yea. I have Jedi Luke from Return of the Jedi, and you cannot find that in stores. It's rarity now, and I bought that doll........hmmm way back in 1999 I believe. It's a collectible, and rare.

Having them collectibles is another reason. The BtVS/AtS 12" dolls are very specific on the episode which is makes them collectibles even further. Not to mention it is from a show, and Barbie/Ken aren't dressed up as them. It's specially made. Hence a very high price from that variable.

It's an odd thing, and very expensive hobby.

It's also a Comic-Con exclusive which why it is so high as well. The Comic-Con exclusives are always that high. Dark Willow was last year's 200 bucks. I'm not disagreeing with you that it is not too much money. You would not see me buying it at all. The highest I go is the 80 bucks dolls.

Ironically, a couple people I know are labeling DVDs in the bracket of no use since there are so many of them and we really don't use them all the time. They just sit there making up more of a library.

We just live in the age where we can have expensive hobbies. Way back in the early to mid-1900s hobbies were non-existant unless you were the small elite class. Interesting how times changed lol.

Every single movie and episode? Every single disc? How big is your collection? The bigger the collection harder it is.

I have a lot of dvds, and I honestly have to say I don't use or watch all of them. Some are there merely as collection to my library. People will just buy just to buy, and not watch. I seen it many times during the past five years. There was also an article about it a few years back noticing the trend.

I don't particuary agree since the first reasons to buy DVD's is to watch them. I watch my Buffy's DVD regularly, probably once a week, so I give my DVD's a lot of use. This is why I particularly don't buy alot of movies, because it can go to that place but like I tell Im just a little practical.

That's exactly what I'm pointing at. Think about I'm in California, and leave near the L.A. area. This type of buying is typical occurance, and the bigger collection basically shows status to a certain extent. Compulsive buyers have been part of the culture since post-WW2.

I'd sya you have more TV shows 'cause of the Buffy & Angel, I wish I could afford them but £30-60 a box set is too much imho, like Stargate or X-FIles.

I don't think your getting your monies worth if you do that.

The same thing happens with music. Only 20 bucks is nothing, and some dvds will go as low as 5 or 9 dollars. It's no big. It's just part of our culture now since the standard of living is high, and leizure/hobbies are more extreme.

I don't buy CDs so I wouldn't know, but whenever I'm on the computer I always have my mp3 playlist playing. Yeah, I bought a few of mine for about $8 roughly which was no big but I still watch them as much as the ones I paid more for.

Yep, & I'd probably rate Tv show season higher than movie seeing as they cost more.

CDs are a must in my mind especially when it comes down to writing. Need background music to get motivated sometimes. That and helps me keep the tone of the stories.

I have an mp3 player too, but I don't buy that many cds as I use it unless I know I'm going to listen them all the way through. I'm actually far more careful on my music selections compared to my dvd collection. Just with tv seasons dvds I know I'll watch them more, so really don't buy a whole lot of movies which is why your movie is list is far bigger than mine.

Oh, I forgot to add:
Spiderman
Daredevil
X1 and X2
Dawn of the Dead

See, I don't use my dvds 24/7 because I seriously don't have time to use them all the time. Time is a big issue as well for me. Which is why some of them go more to collection until I have time to watch them. I do make time to watch at least two buffy episodes a week, and at least one movie. My friends and some of loved ones really don't bother on their dvd collection. They buy and watch it once, and that's it.

TV Shows I only buy if I saw the show already, and I loved it. I love Star Trek:TNG, but there is no way on this Earth I would buy a season of since it costs over 80 bucks .

Silly friends & Loved ones lol, jking, thats what my brothers like, he says he'll re-watch them once he's watched everything but he's always buying more and more or borrowing off of me

I can see what you mean there, I might get some of the buffy box sets at/after christmas but I doubt it. I loved ST:TNG too and the box set prices are ridduclus, plus my brother has them recorded on VHS from when they were first on

I have a cheap mp3. It only holds 60 songs which is just fine for me lol.

It's just too expensive. We were very fortunate for the BtVS to hold some much for a less price :). X-Files is quite expensive as well.

Whedon Comics!

Creator reveals upcoming comics

By Matthew Price
The Oklahoman

WORD BALLOONS

Fans of Joss Whedon, creator of "Buffy the Vampire
Slayer," will soon see more comic-book work from the
writer/director.

While Whedon is still working on the upcoming "Wonder
Woman" film, he recently mentioned projects with
Marvel and Dark Horse Comics.

In a post at fan site whedonesque.com, Whedon leaked
word of upcoming "Buffy" comics from Dark Horse.

"And now on to the rumors and allegations section.
Many of you want to know what the future holds.
Anxiety, hurricanes and Male Pattern Baldness. But
maybe also some art-stuff, which is really what you
guys are into," Whedon wrote.

"As I understand it, (the new Dark Horse comic) will
take place after the end of 'Buffy' and 'Angel' and be
canon in the Buffy world," Whedon wrote. "And I
understand it that way 'cause I'M WRITING IT. I'm
kicking off the book with a four-issue arc that finds
Buffy -- you guessed it -- living in Italy with The
Immortal."

Whedon also indicated more comics based on the
"Serenity" film were in the works.

"Brett (Matthews) and I are talking about another
three-part comic, and it's gonna be a hoot. Takes
place during the show and has some sweet character
deaths -- I mean moments!"

Marvel associate editor Nick Lowe talked about
Whedon's return to "Astonishing X-Men" at the recent
Wizard World: Texas show. "Astonishing X-Men" No. 13
is scheduled for a February release.

Artist John Cassaday remains the artist on the book.
Lowe indicated the Hellfire Club could return in the
new year of "Astonishing X-Men."

Furthermore, "Astonishing X-Men" vol. 2, collecting
issues 6-12 of the title, recently shipped from
Marvel.

Whedon also posted that rumors of a "Spike" movie
might turn into something more.

"The infamous Spike movie. Still haven't finalized
anything, but I feel that very soon I'll be able to go
to James (Marsters, who played Spike on 'Buffy the
Vampire Slayer') and say something a lot more
interesting than 'Wouldn't it be cool if ...'

"'Course, I just hope he's free some time this
decade."

I read in another snippnet interview the Buffy comics are going to start out as four issue set. Being Dark Horse you can expect a graphic novel version. It's more of a reminder I suppose.

Summers
11-26-2005, 11:07 PM
Hmm...third episodes "Villians", "Two To Go", and "Grave".

This trilogy is not really in novels timeline per sa. It's trilogy that is an "alternate" ending to S6. The expanded universe writers just really wanted to have fun, and explore the Dark Willow persona some more. It's an alternate version. Another alternate is "Seven Crows" which I hoped some parts of it was part of the original novel story.

Actually the Showtime figth is one of my favorites in the show. I general I love the season 7 fights. The show in general had a more cinematic feeling and a better production. Visual effects, make up, stunts... all seemed to improve.

The Showtime fight and the Caleb vs Buffy in End of Days are among my top 10 fights in the show.

Oh, I meant as a gif. You don't see many of the "Showtime" gifs anymore lol.

I love the "Showtime" fight. It was incredible, and very moveable throughout the whole "thunderdome" :). In the series itself the fights increasing got better, and when S5 hit the new stunt coordinater just made it better because street fighting and gymnastics was included in it.

Many seven fights are in my top ten as well :).

I understood what you meant, it was my bad, the way I said it.

I thought than in general season 7 had a bigger production value than all the previous one. The make up that last year was incredible, don't know why they were not nominated again, the weapons, the sets. I was reading a while ago something about that there was alot of symbolisim too in season 7 , with the weapons, the way the bringer killed their victims, the seal of Danzalthar, Caleb, it was interesting.

I guess is natural that with the years the show gets better production wise, but that is not always the case. I thought that season 5 while improved the fights and stuns, I did not liked some of the sets, I thought the Glory Hotel was poorly done, and I found some visuals effects from season 4 more impresive.

LexLuthorMetropolis
11-28-2005, 07:58 PM
I loved the final showdown with Glory and the construction site it was held at. It was like a big action movie fight and of course, we had the hammer return from earlier in the season.

UPN gave BtVS more money. Far much more money than WB ever did . But I have to disagree to me every year the sets were awesome. I love S5 new fighting style of Buffy with her gymnastics, and emphasis on mental meditation. BtVS's visual effects never downsized in their S5 unlike Angel or SV's budget. SV and Angel are the only ones that were downsized in budget in their CGI not BtVS. BtVS's visual effects increasing got better and better over time. The portal in "The Gift" was without doubt amazely beautiful as was the dragon coming out of it while the destruction of Sunnydale.

The sets each year to me was amazing:
S1
-The Library
-Master's Lair
-Angel's apartment

S2:
-The Factory
-Angel's Mansion
-The expansion of the school
-the Summers' house

S3
-hello Sunnydale Main Street that included a theatre, shops, and the Empresso Pump :D
-the Hell set in "Anne"

S4
-the dorm room set far more expansive
-The Initive Set
-Riley's frat house
-US Sunnydale

S5
-awesome set of The Magic Box complete with a danger room :D
-expansion of the hospital set
-Xander's apartment
-Dawn's room decoration
-The Tower set
-the upgraded Bronze :D

S6
-Spike's crypt expansion

S7
-The new Sunnydale High :D
-the set of Hellmouth and the basement
-Caleb's vineyard
-the sewers where the Potentials were

Plus can't beat the location sets of the graveyards

All the seasons to me had a great inclusion to the series, and it just better and better.

S5 has one of my favorite fighting fights in "The Gift". So many things are happening at once from Willow to Spike to Xander. Plus how hard it was to have Clare and Sarah on those tower rafters was not easy. They had to do many things that focused on their upper body strength, and the fight was neat. We had the hammer, and them both struggling to get to the top first. It was incredible.

I also love the fight in "Into The Woods" where Buffy slayed all those vampires with one wooden stick :).

I just see the whole production process of BtVS increasely get better, better in sets, make-up, stunts, and etc. Joss labeled BtVS has his cast and crew's graduate school. That is what exactly what it was. They improved every year. I still am amazed how each year they increased on how the dusting of vampires appeared. First it was poof to actual facial expressions and ribs before a vampire was completely dusted. It's amazing process to read, and learn more about.

Don't get me wrong, I actualy think that the show improved a lot of things in season 5. There are some sets that I love like The Magic Box, wich somehow looks diffrerent in season 6, probably more dark but I prefer it in season 5. The Gift had outstanding visuals, is just here and there that I felt like they did better in previous years like the snake in Shadow, horrible effect, this was their third CGI snake on the show, they should had known by now how bad they look. I thought that the efffects in Thought Love were poor too, the mirrow, breaking, the knives, the little snake all looked very CGI. About the sets it's just the Glory Hotel room that bothers me, that is the only set on the show that just takes me out from what is happening on the screen, I thought it looked bad, plain, fake, just like a TV set.

The difference in the Magic Box was the lightening. In all of the sets the lighting was a darker tone to convey the mood of the season in S6.

The Mayor Snake was awesome CGI effect. The problem with "Shadow" snake is that it switched from CGI to actual fake looking snake. It wasn't the CGI. It was the actual fake snake of itself when Buffy was punching it. There first snake in "Band Candy" was their first CGI creature. You know how much a cost of dusting a vampire was....it was $5,000 dollars per dusting. They had small money as it was in throughout it's time on the WB.

I loved "Tough Love" CGI. They had very little money to work with, and an upcoming "The Gift" episode full with:
-destruction of Sunnydale
-dragon
-and a portal
All things that stayed on the episode for more than five minutes. That was major bucks in that episode. You have to wager in less money from the WB, and money had to be saved for the finale. Given that the CGI was excellent. My loved ones, and people online loved the CGI and effects in "Tough Love".

Futhermore, the CGI is now very old now. BtVS was one of the very few shows to use CGI on a regular basis. It was a learning experience, and it showed many other shows in what ways they can use it. It's groundbreaking.

It's sets. Unless it's a movie set your going to have makeshift sets on tv lol. It looked like a hotel room. A vast hotel room with a nice looking tub. It looked fine to me.

I'm with you, Mel. Every set on the show has been very realistic as opposed to many of the shows on TV (sitcoms are the worse example of it).

I agree. TV sitcoms have the worst sets of all tv. BtVS was one of the few shows at the time concerned about making really nice sets, and you can tell they spent time and money on them.

Caleb's vineyard is still one of the most expensive sets the show had.

I understand all you posted above about the CGI and overall the show did very good with visual effects. However you are one of the few peope that I have heard said that the Mayor snake in season 3 looked great, it does not bothers me, but the most I have read about it is that it was bad.

I don't know about the Glory Hotel room, it just bothers me.

Actually I admire the show for all it production values and expecially the sets. Buffy was a show that took chances and featured new sets every year, on the other hand Smallville have the same sets since season 1. They only introduced this year the class room, Lana and Chloe's dorm room and Chloe's work place, and only because they had to get rid of High School, I mean Lex place is a mansion yet Lex spents all his time in that room. I will love to see more of the mansion and so on.

Wow, I don't get to check up on Kryptonsite but maybe once a week, so I always fall way behind. Anyways, yeah, my collection is building up really slowly too. At some point, I got trained so well in buying toys only on clearance that I only very rarely pay full price anymore. Of course, when I can manage a larger income, I'm sure that will change, ha. But, if I find something reasonably priced at regular price, or if I want it enough, I'll go ahead and get it if I can afford to.

I'm dying to get some Dawn figures! And, someday I need to go on Ebay and pick up some of the other characters I've missed. I'd like a Willow from season one, and all the basic characters really. Suncoast at our mall has Fred from Angel right now, and I badly want that one!

Someone said something about being more into buying DVDs and stuff like that because it's more practical. My "spare" cash (not that I really have such a thing) tends to be split between toys and DVDs 50/50. Maybe slightly more towards DVDs lately. Still, I think if one really analyzes it, DVDs, books (fiction ones at least), toys, etc... are all the same. They're art/entertainment. Toys are sorta like buying a painting, or a poster or copy of one anyway. They're mass produced, often affordable works of art, sculptures to be more specific. They're often just decoration, purely for aesthetics, but that's actually a legitimate purpose for collecting them. Personally, I'm a Disney fanatic mainly, Star Wars and Indiana Jones close behind, but I'm into so many different movies and cartoons that I have a really diverse collection. My other most recent toy purchases were the 9 inch Starfire from the Teen Titans animated series and a figure of Marshall Willenholly from "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back."

The most I read at the time, and in many boards now the Mayor Snake is one of the most loved CGI shots. It was well received. The one from "Shadow" was the not well received. Put it in context I saw The Mayor Snake when it first aired in 1999. The transformation was great, and looked fantastic going through the Sunnydale High. It was incredible in 1999, and groundbreaking CGI for tv shows. That's why I love it. But I am not one of the few. It really was/is well received.

When talking about fanbases you have to remember the bias of each message board. I always went to the most objective ones, but I also went to the popular ones as well. Each message board carries some type of bias/leaning on many things.

S5 the extra set of the FoS. Smallville mostly concentrated on the hospital set of the show, and for some odd reason AlMiles love expanding it more and more . SV has the bigger budget of any show on the WB because of DC comics connection, but I never enjoyed the fact they have a lot money but they expanded only on the hospital. You would think they would want to expand more of Lex's mansion, or include Chloe's house or something. They really weren't as versatile with their sets. There is no development, or progression on those sets. It just makes the show look more stagnate.

Well that could be, I actually watched Graduation Day on the original airdate at the WB, I thought it looked great and the effects still looks great for me, but I have read some not as positive.

I forgot about the Fortress, they actually are expanding this year, but still Im afraid they will stay with that sets until the end. Smallville problems are not budget ones, but is that they not even try. I had seen alot of scenes where I think why that scene was there? in that set?

I don't know, cayayofm, if you watched Buffy when it originally aired but the snake was so amazing because I had never seen that sort of CGI on any show. It was amazing. Even now, while, sure, you may say it's obviously CGI, I don't notice. I love it and think it's a great effect.

The snake in "Shadow" wasn't good only because of the fake prop snake. CGI was fine to me.

I loved Glory's hotel room. IMO, it was supposed to look really big, vast, and tacky, which it was to me. It was enormous with obnoxious colors.

If you are reading things now I wouldn't be surprised (depending on the board) there not so well received. If they are newbies to the universe, then I wouldn't be surprised if they are comparing 1999 CGI to 2005 CGI which is just lame. Over time technology becomes better and better over time. Big difference, but for it's time it was excellent. There will be a time when SV CGI (before the budget of S5) will look outdated .

Hmm..I think it is a combo of trying, or simply feel why do they need to expand. I just know AlMiles loves that hospital set.

Uh, actually that is actually Sarah. BtVS wouldn't have enough money to make a CGI person unless it is for finale purposes only. What she is on is the fake snake CGI over since they need a distance camera shot. That isn't really the pure CGI snake. The pure CGI snake was before Buffy got to it.

No the discussions are not from now but from 3 or 4 years ago. I think that the show got better every year in every aspect of production. I just have those tiny complains, but overall the show got better and pretty quickly, I mean look at season 1 to season 2 and you will see how much they improved (of course they had a bigger budget, but still).

What I won't forgive is Fox for not cleaning up the picture quality of season 2 for DVD. That is a great season not just for Buffy, but grounbreaking pieces of TV. It just gets me how a movie from 1939 ( the wizard of oz) have a better picture quality than a show in 1997, I mean no matter how cleaned up they get a movie the diference in years is a lot.

Than that is still a big difference in years. It's been three years since BtVS went off the air. That is 1999 to 2002. Still a big difference in years in CGI technologically thanks to Lucasfilms, LoTR company CGI, and Matrix CGI. That's a huge difference in years. That's the time when the CGI department boomed. Still, very lame even for 3/4 years ago . That's comparing S3 CGI to S7 CGI which itself not fair comparisons. S7 they were all well into transformations, and CGI take plus a bigger CGI budget due to UPN. Sorry, but whoever said those statements I'm assuming they didn't look at the big picture perspective of it all. Or just plain have high expectations.

S2 They did have a bigger budget than S1. S1 is the lowest budget of all the series. Joss didn't call it a graduate school for all his employees for nothing .

S1 & S2 used a different film compared to S3-S7. They used a cheaper film quality to lessen the burden on the other departments in budget. Plus it's a tv show. It's not going to be remastered at all especially at the time of the first release. BtVS (like always) was one of the first tv shows that were released in dvd format, and one of the reasons tv shows on dvd trend got started :D.

Sorry, but I read interviews by the CGI team and they said that wasn't a CGI Sarah. I'm going off them, and what they said. The first CGI person was The Mayor in S3.

If it is a CGI Sarah, then I still don't know what the big deal is. The CGI to me was great with the snake in "Shadow". It looked fine to me. I don't have any nitpicks about it as compared to the very noticeable bad CGI on Clark's heat vision.

I know, Im weird that way, it just that im very picky about the things that I love. However somehow, I see season 1 brighter than season 2, I find the color of season 2 off. Other shows like Sex and the city had the 16mm film stock in the first 2 seasons and look better than Buffy.

Maybe your thinking of the lighting of the sets . Joss did comment for dark seasons he wanted the lighting to be darker especially on the darker content episodes.

Sex and the City is scene more in the daylight though, and will carry a different tone in lighting since it is a comedy show. A comedy shows are rarely seen in darker tones.

Better quality doesn't mean the less quality is crap. It's just a technological improvements. Some just like the past time is all.

I don't think it is unusual. Some people liked that quality, and to me it was clear. I seriously didn't see anything wrong with the first two seasons film. The newer film just seemed more in detail, and contrast with color better is all. Older film gets also a sense of quality of the feature.

Whatever floats your boat .

1 NEWHART SERIES FINALE (5/21/90)

From Yahoo

I'm a little perturbed. Newhart was number one last year, and the finale really wasn't that great. It basically made the whole series not real. Plus personally, I would have Kimberly from Melrose Place blew up the apartment complex rather than pulling off the wig.

cayayofm
12-01-2005, 07:36 PM
Well, I don't know about Newhart, I was too young in 1990, but it's great that OMWF is on the list. Buffy the Vampire Slayer in general was one of the most unexpected TV moments. Nobody thought that the show based on a movie flop with a silly premise was going to be one of the best show to gross TV.

Summers
12-01-2005, 08:19 PM
Well, OMWF was unexpected because a tv show musical was never successful. It was a laughable notion, and quite campy. Joss took it to serious tone to it, and made it flow with the show's characters. Hence, unexpected milestone :D.

TV Guides Frosty favourites - Amends

TV guide has compiled a list of holiday favourites on TV. Buffy episode 'Amends' made the list!

"When you've had about all you can take of shopping, there is nothing like sitting down in front of the TV and watching some of your favorite holiday TV specials and episodes. So we recommend that you either rent or check listings for these favorites, perfect for curling up on the couch with your family and a cup of cocoa.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Season 3, "Amends")

Not your typical holiday fare, but this touching episode highlights the tormented relationship of Buffy and Angel while bringing in the haunting ghostly themes from stories like A Christmas Carol. As the holidays approach and Buffy and her pals plan their celebrations, Angel is being plagued by nightmares and visions of Jenny Calendar (or a possessed version of her), whom he killed the previous year. Convinced that he will never be able to escape his demon side and that he'll always be a danger to those he cares about, the vampire with a soul heads to a mountain to commit suicide (of sorts) by sunlight. Buffy vainly tries to convince him that he is worthy of staying alive, but he refuses to budge as daybreak nears. But miraculously, it begins to snow for the first time ever in Sunnydale, providing a sun-free Christmas and extending Angel's existence on earth.

Sarah Michelle Gellar - "The Grudge 2" Movie - She Returns for The Grudge 2

From Comingsoon.net - By Webmaster - 2005-12-5

The Grudge and The Grudge 2 screenwriter Stephen Susco tells Dread Central that Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her role of Karen Davis in the sequel.

Talking from Japan, Susco revealed that "SMG is back. Without giving anything away, we’ve all been pretty focused on making a sequel that has a strong raison d’etre - a second chapter to an evolving story, instead of a sequel that’s made just because the first one performed well."

The follow-up starts filming on January 20th with Takashi Shimizu back in the director’s chair. Columbia Pictures will release the Ghost House Pictures project on October 20, 2006. Stay tuned to GhostHousePictures.com for more on the sequel.
http://www.whedon.info/article.php3?id_article=12793

k, so she just finished Southland Tales and Revolver is still in post-production. Including The Grudge 2 Sarah has four movies still in pre-production process right now. Damn, she is busy .
