There are two epic movies coming out this summer. Troy, the story of the Illiad, the Trojan War, and all that. Followed by The Odyessy. Then you have King Arthur, the story that inspired the legend of the Round Table, Sword in the Stone, Excalibur, Merlin, and most of all, Camelot.

Forget the movies for a sec. Which legend is better? The Illiad and Odysseus' journey home and the Gods of Greece. The Story of King Arthur, destined to lead his people to victory; and return when they need him the most.

Make your choice.

Arthur is better, but mainly because of Merlin. W/o Merlin, the Arthur storyline isn;t that good...

I prefer the Illiad, but Arthur and company has the better movie version: Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

I prefer Greek/Roman epic myself. Although I hated Argonautika by Apollonios Rhodios... mainly because his writing style sucked. Iliad and Odyssey were good, as was The Aeneid (by Virgil, it's a Roman epic but its form mirrors the Iliad and the Odyssey).

I really like Greek and Roman stuff. I like the Illiad the best.

I prefer Greek mythology, so I have to go with the Illiad. Why didn't you include Gladiator. Thats one great movie.

Did you read my first post? Forget the movies. Focus on the actual stories for which they were based.

Yeah was Gladiator even based off of any legend? Or did they just say "Hey, let's make a movie where a guy has to beat people up in an arena to stay alive."

I hate that movie. It's way overrated.

So mundane I cannot believe Russell Crowe got an oscar for that piece of tripe.

oh and I used to know a bit about greek mythology, but my memory is awful I cannot remember enough to judge specifics, but if I do it vaguely I'd say I've always preferred King Arthur (probably cos thats the one I remember most about).

My favorite legend would have to be The Legend of Zelda.

I'm serious. :p

King Arthur, definitely. I've always been fascinated by sort of Celtic legends like that...medieval things and similar stuff. Wizards have always fascinated me, also. Merlin rocks! Not to mention my love for King Arthur was probably further inspired by Magneto's (AKA Gandalf...note wizard) reading of 'The Once and Future King' in X-Men.

I was probably turned off from Greek mythology by my horrible Latin teacher whom I've been forced to put up with for three years already. I hate him. At least he's hot...

I just recently watched the King Arthur movie. And I had a question about the story. Doesn't Lancelot and Guinevere supposed to sleep together?

Maybe I'm way off here, but I thought that is what happened. I was reading Dante's Inferno last semester, and thought that was mentioned when he met Francesca in Hell. That's why she was there, because she was reading about Lancelot and Guinevere, then she slept with another man. The movie doesn't even let us think they may have slept together during this time. So, if anyone knows...

Hmm... that one's a toughie. *thinks hard* Gonna have to go with... King Arthur and his knights. Love Greek mythology though.

As for your question greenshady, yes, in most depictions of King Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere sleep together. The producer and director of the movie kind of wanted to get away from that whole aspect and focus more on the tale itself. You can kind of see that Lancelot has a thing for Guinevere though in the movie.
