View Full Version : Brandon Routh Joins Chuck!

 I'm excited for this! Routh is joining the series for a multi-episode arc.
Routh’s character, Shaw, is a mysterious new spy who takes control as the new leader of Operation Bartwoski, becoming a mentor to Chuck and a rival in his affections for Sarah. He first appears in this season’s fourth episode.

I actually once wondered how cool it would be to have Brandon Routh play a spy on Chuck. I loved him in SR, so I am generally very happy by this news.
However, I had hoped he would be a bit of a contrast to the Bryce's of the world, in that he could be a friendlier spy who wants to help Chuck be more awesome, whereas this makes it seem as though he's just another ridiculously attractive dude who's chasing after Sarah, making Chuck seem pathetic and undermining the main love story... Like we haven't seen that before and hated every minute of it!?!
Ah well, hopefully I'm wrong. It has happened once before. Maybe twice.

Chris and Josh like to toy around with the audience. Josh is known for his stupid triangles but he said its going to be a love trapezoid meaning BR's character might just hook up with Carina or Chuck's love interest.

So between Brandon and Kristen - Chuck is definitely getting Supermanified. I'm excited to see Brandon in Chuck. I just hope they don't make him a Cole or Bryce remake.

Agreed! Who could be better at teaching Chuck how to be a Superhero than Brandon (Superman) Routh.
Interesting,
"The first season was about Chuck about having this computer in his head and being really confused and overwhelmed. The second season was about him kind of going – you know what? I just want to be a regular guy. I don’t want to be a superhero. He was in the denial phase. This season is really about Chuck going – Wait a minute! This is kinda of cool. Yes, I want to be a spy. I do want to be a superhero."

I hope your right. Chuck really hit its stride last season and was on a role! I'm all for Chuck wanting to be a hero/spy I just hope they don't all the sudden make him this suave/ultracompetent/kickazz guy. Part of what I love about Chuck is the geekiness/goofiness he brings to the role. He gets the job done in his own, kinda inept way. He's like the everyman spy and I love that aspect. I don't want to see that change.
Anyway, I am so excited for the new season and all this casting news...Brandon and Kristin...just has me even more excited! :D

i was readin some responses to some on some other sites and i saw a few post that stated that BR will be the love interest to Sarah and KK or Hannah will be a Love interest for Chuck but dont know how long but (((from what others have said that this was teased some were))) I guess after a few epis BR and KK will be falling for each other. then we will have Chuck and Sarah back together. i enjoyed the back and forth GF and BF things between each other with other people on the show but its just getting used up to much it seemed like it was every other episode. but i guess with BR and KK on the show it will change thinks a little and make Chuck and Sarah come together even more. to me like i said was ok but you can only do that so much on a show before it gets lame..... i think if there not gonna be together then leave it at that. JMHO :D

Well, I suppose you have a point; I really can't say much about it since I'm totally new to the show. In fact, I learned about it when I heard that Brandon was joining (I'm a big fan of him). Since then I've watched some videos on youtube (which I really liked), and going by the vast mayority of the fans comments, it seems that this show is awesome! :D I must rent/buy the series as soon as possible dammit!
I hope they use some green to subdue SHAW, BR's character.
hmm, please elaborate.

Sorry but I hope they DON'T! It'd be too cheesy, IMO. Plus I'm just not a fan of Kristin's acting. :\

Well he played Superman and now he's on Chuck for 2-3 episodes. There's something green maybe a drug that subdues his characters. Like an allusion to Kryptonite.

Well Josh and Chris said there not tearing Charah apart, its going to be this trapezoid thing. Although there stupid for thinking that if Chuck and Sarah get together its going to end the show. That's dumb.
Kal_El=Clark
09-16-2009, 12:11 AM
that's like saying the smallville show will be over if Lois & Clark are together. i read a few statements i believe its was from the old PS for SV that said that. but i don't think that if some couple are together on a show its just that writers aren't creative with out having any kind of separation between what looks like future relationship between couple on shows. o well what can you do.

IA with this. I don't understand why we have to have triangles or trapezoids or any other geometrical shapes. If Chuck loves Sarah and Sarah loves Chuck, then it's stupid to keep them apart. I mean, at least they could TRY at a relationship for awhile.
And BR coming is alright. He was okay as Superman but I'd like to see him in another role (which I will be able to do, yay!) Plus, watching him, ZL and AB all on the same show...I'm going to need a fan. :o:lol: Can't go wrong with three very good looking guys.

well i think constant love triangles eventually kill a show because its to predictable i mean the Chuck and his Ex Jill i when i seen that start i knew 100% that she will end up being some folcroum agent. it just get over done i think and like i said i hate it cause it gets predictable real fast. another think i mentioned is that this is not a movie trilogy of maximum 9 hours but a season of a bunch of hours well you just have to have talented writers i guess if not then things get bad on a show.

Plus, the triangles don't make sense! Sarah and Chuck love each other, so why insert these silly flings into the plot? For angst? To keep them apart because we as the audience will get bored if the characters actually go on a real date or two? I'm not too upset about BR but I'm sick and tired of love triangles and trapezoids and octagons and so on.

they might just do that from what i read online from all the sites.
as for triangles like i said to be it seems they put them on to take up screen time as in they seriously dont have anything else to write about. if you get writers to write a show and their paid good money then write a DANG good story. me personnaly i do like the romantic part its fun to watch, but the comedy between them two is funnier like i dont remember what episode that was but it didnt involve another girl or guy but where Chuck drives the car with the remote and it blows up well the expression that Sarah had on her face and after what happened how Chuck shows up and thinks its the coolest thing to drive that car and with out realizing put Sarah in a painful position that i thought was good stuff :D .
so another wards to much of one thing on a show of multiple episodes can ruin a show.

Oh, sorry I forgot to reply. Been too busy. And your idea sound great, I love it! Hope they do something like that. They could also do something like say his character, Shaw, is coming or going somewhere for a mission/important meeting or something and he says that he needs to 'fly'. :p
Oh, and another idea could be to have both Brandon and maybe Zach too disguised as nerds with glasses and all that ala Clark Kent for a mission!! How awesome would that be?!
Any way, here is a recent interview with Zach, Yvonne and Brandon on the set,

Oh, that’s great! I’ve read somewhere that Kristin’s character will appear only 3 episodes and I was afraid so would Brandon’s. Glad to know his character seems to be integral to the impact of the story in the coming season. :)
And thanks for the promo clip and pic! I was amazed to see just how much their promo focused mainly on Chuck. I’m so used to watching SV promo which we barely see the protagonist in it, you know. lol

BR looked really good in tonight's episode! He's sarcastic which is nice and his character is interesting because you really don't know what he's going to do. It would be cool if his character and KK's character Hannah got together but that's not likely going to happen.

Question: Any chance you have a nice, juicy tidbit regarding Chuck? —SmurfLover
Ausiello: This one’s for all the gays and gals out there: “I have a shirtless scene coming up ,” reveals Brandon Routh (Shaw). “It’s a really big deal for me. I worked out like crazy for [I]Superman Returns, but stayed behind the leotard most of the time so you never knew just how in shape I had gotten. Then I took some time off and let my body go a little. So when I heard this shirtless scene was coming up, I worked hard to have something good to show people.” I’m guessing producers liked what they saw. Routh tells us that his Chuck stint was recently extended from four to eight episodes.
Looks like he'll be sticking around longer than we thought. Hopefully the extra episodes means they've liked what he's done in the next couple eps. I wonder if the extra episodes will be right after his first four, or if he'll be gone for a couple eps and come back for another 4

No, it's the one after. The one airing right after the winter olympics, March 1, I think.
And to me it seems that Shaw is looking for this type of response from Chuck; he wants him to deal with his emotions in the open, IMO. We'll see..
