Imagine a world, where almost everyone is a vampire. No one grows old, and the remaining humans are hunted and farmed for blood.

This winter, the battle between immortality and humanity is on.

In the year 2017, a plague has transformed almost every human into a vampire. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, and the threat of a monstrous mutation, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a disillusioned hematologist, Edward Dalton, works in secret with a covert band of vamps and humans, on a way to save humankind.

I thought this looked very interesting. Certainly a new take on 'the plague movie' and a new take on a 'vampire movie' as well.

Sounds a little like "I Am Legend" but still really interesting.

I never saw that movie, everyone told me it was stupid so I didn't watch it. I hear it was one doctor trying to save people who had turned into monsters after everyone fled the city. I don't know though, is that what it was like?

This does seem interesting, in that the vampires are that way because of a plague and are now the dominant race. They are the vehicle of their own extinction by hunting down and farming the remaining humans until it puts them in a situation where they are mutating into something far less than the 'humanity' they have left in their vampirism.

I haven't seen a synoposis quite like that, and all the vamp movies and plague movies that I've seen feel pretty much the same. 'Daybreakers' looks different. I'm thinking I'll probably go see it.

I really like the music in the trailer, but I don't know who does it.

Another thing I liked is the hint of corporate corruption that bleeds into the trailer a bit, with Sam Neil's 'villain' knowing that to not find a blood substitute will be the downfall of the vampire race and he's pretty much like 'there will always be those willing to pay for the real thing' In other words, let the poor vampires devolve into monsters, as long as the wealthy are still paying top dollar for real blood.

if this movie is anything like I am legend it will definitely suck, this movie does sound interesting always been a fan of vampires ( minus Twilight). I like Willem dafoe pretty awesome actor. I am just curious to know who's directing this? i might give it a look.

Michael Spierig & Peter Spierig, who are also the writers.

They only have two others movies on their roster, 'Undead' from (2003) and The Big Picture. They sound like Filmdance Festival type movies, but I'm definitely noticing a trend in 'undead' type flicks being their preference.

I don't mind them being new and fresh, it might help give the movie a fresh feel of its own. Still, there is always the chance that it will be a bomber, but I'm going to try it. The main actors seem pretty good.

Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke and Sam Neill are all good actors I think.

I think it is hard to be original in general, I know as a writer, sometimes I have to settle for making 'refurbished' popular material.

I liked that trailer a lot too. It was very well setup, I even liked the music.

LOL! Yes, I think this Edward doesn't sparkle in the sunlight, or at least I hope he doesn't.

Well in the name's defense it was a really common name and still kinda is. And when I heard the title it made me thing of the Night World series and also of the Night Watch/Day Watch series. So hopefully it's not a total rip off.....

The movie preview does look decent though, I like the music choice.

I enjoyed "I Am Legend" a lot. Will Smith is just too wonderful for me not to like it. In that movie, (in spoiler tags just in case): A doctor/scientist finds the cure for cancer but it ends up becoming like a plauge and much of the population die off. The rest are these vampire-like creatures. A few are immune. It's a movie about hope in a world that's different than the one we exist in today. I think it's a bit of cautionary tale. IMO.

I'm not sure if this movie is exactly like that but you can see the similarties. I'll have to see the preview for this to determine my exact opinion of it.

It looks/sounds like a hybrid of "I am Legend, Twilight and Planet of the Apes"...We have a world over-run by vampires, humans are now caged creatures used for their blood and the one vampire is aiding the remaining humans to escape the torture. I'm pretty sure that the vampire will fall for one of the humans he helps.

I'm pretty sure that the vampire will fall for one of the humans he helps.

The trailer made it look like he might find a way to turn himself and others back into humans.

He says to the villainous corporate vampire that he can cure him. To which the villain says 'What's to cure?'

I don't know though.

But yeah, I'm sure there is SOME semblance of romance in here, but it looks more like action/suspense.

That's a pretty astute observation...you are completely right. Where, oh where have all the original ideas gone??

But, seriously, this movie does sounds interesting, even if it is a hodgepodge of ideas from other movies pieced together.

If anyone else likes that song from the trailer, I found it, with the lyrics on YouTube.

It was originally a song by Kate Bush and Placebo did the cover that we heard on the Daybreakers trailer.

I am interested in this flick if only for the premise. I'm not the kind of person that would see this in theaters, though. I'm the kind of person that hopes it's good and gets frequent replays on TBS or something 3 or 4 years from now.
