Season 2 Top Ten

Here's where you can relive the best moments of Season 2 through your very own Top Ten episodes list. You may add details as to why you've selected each episode for its placement if you like, or just list the episodes by themselves. It's up to you!

1 - Rosetta - I had to go with this episode as the top one since it featured such a legendary scene involving Christopher Reeve as Virgil Swann with his first interaction with Tom Welling's Clark Kent. Plus, Chloe gave Lana the verbal smackdown after she snooped into her personal files -- nosy Lana!
2 - Exodus - What a gut-wrenching season finale. Everyone lost something in this episode, or at least that's how it felt. Lex lost his trust in his wife when she tried to kill him off (even though we didn't know she was responsible yet), Clark lost his self-confidence and believed his parents hated him, Martha and Jonathan lost their unborn child, Chloe lost her best friend and almost lost herself to the dark side when she agreed to spy on Clark, and Lana lost Clark when she had just finally started her relationship with him. Sadness all around, but it set things up for an amazing Season 3.
3 - Fever - This episode wins it for a number of reasons. First, so many actors and actresses turned in excellent performances. Ma and Pa Kent were in top form, as were Chloe in her reading of that extremely heartfelt (some would say "sappy") letter. It was nice to finally know exactly what was going on in Chloe's head regarding her relationship with Clark, and that last scene was beautiful, and sad, too.
4 - Ryan - Ryan James is one of my top favorite guest stars, so his return was a much-anticipated event for me. It was so tragic that he had to die -- I always had wished he'd get at least an arc of episodes where he could appear in the "little brother" role to Clark. Still, this episode showed Clark at his finest, and the last scene is still one of the most memorable to me out of the whole series, with the two of them in the balloon and Clark staring at the empty hospital bed while that Dishwalla song "Angels & Devils" plays in the background.
5 - Vortex - After the unbelievable "Tempest," this turned out to be a pretty cool premiere. The Roger Nixon/Jonathan Kent buried-alive bit, and the resolution of that when Lex killed Roger, were both very cool. The tornado sequence was very well-done as well. The only real drawback for me to an otherwise solid episode was the way they swept the Chlark romance back under the rug after three episodes of beautiful build-up.
6 - Insurgence - This is an underrated episode, in my opinion. It felt so climactic and powerful, what with Clark trying to do everything in his power to save his mother and Lionel, including leaping from the Daily Planet building into Luthorcorp Tower. The question of whether or not Lionel was truly still blind was one that kept viewers guessing as well.
7 - Duplicity - I had to pick this one, since it's the first time that we got to see a main cast member (other than Clark's parents) in the know about his secret. Pete Ross was underutilized as a character, which is what I think led the most to his departure from the series after Season 3, but at least this was one of the writer's best moves to try and make him more interesting.
8 - Prodigal - Another character is introduced who should have made a return appearance by now in the form of Lucas Luthor. He was a very interesting character, and one could draw some interesting parallels between him and his brother in viewing how they were raised and how they both turned out the way they did. I'll never understand why they didn't have him come back at some point, especially when Lex was willing to clone Julian just to have some family in Season 7.
9 - Calling - This was an awesome lead-in to the season finale -- it's probably the best penultimate episode of the series, in my mind. There were great interactions between all the characters. The Clana romance finally got off the ground for real for the first time, and this was back when I didn't mind seeing them get a chance at happiness, for as long as it lasted. I LOVED the way Chloe told Lionel off when he revealed his true intentions, even though she went back on her word the following episode. The Helen/Lex stuff was fun to watch as well. Helen's another of my favorite recurring characters.
10 - Lineage - This earns the last spot in my Top Ten merely for being a good first attempt at integrating flashbacks successfully into the show. I enjoyed the method they used to reveal what had really happened between the Kents and the Luthors on the day of the meteor shower, and the way they handled the character of Rachel Dunleavy was intriguing, even though we all knew she couldn't REALLY be Clark's mother. The last part with Lionel opening the locket with a very much ALIVE Lucas' picture led the way nicely toward "Prodigal" eight episodes later.

WOW, I really did like Season 2. I think the main thing it had going for it was more memorable plots that were bolstered by a strong cast of recurring and single-episode guest characters. I'll look forward to hearing others' thoughts on this remarkable season as well.

2. Heat - Humorous way for Clark to discover his heat vision. Very Clexy episode.
3. Red - Red K is introduced, and its never been sexier :p
4. Rosetta - Great guest star, great way for Clark to find out his backstory
5. Insurgence - Another one of those episodes where everything just seems to work so well
6. Calling - Better then the actual finale
7. Vortex - A nice set-up for the season
8. Visitor - A vastly underrated episode which features a really wonderfully written Clark.
9. Ryan - Super sad :(
10. Duplicity - Pete finds out!

S2 is a solid season overall with a few stinkers thrown in here and there. Probably my third or fourth favorite season.

My Top 10 :

1) Insurgence - Outstanding episode. Great suspense and FX.

2) Vortex - The most underrated premiere of the show. A really great episode from start to finish.

3) Rosetta - While I do find it to be overrated, it has moments that truly make it an epic episode.

4) Red - I thought they gave us an entertaining and well done introduction to Red K. A lot of great scenes in this one.

5) Heat - My favorite superpower episode. Great scenes and dialogue in it.

6) Prodigal - I love this episode. Lucas was one of my favorite guest characters, and it is a shame that he was never brought back.

7) Calling/Exodus - I know they aired on TV seperately. However, both parts make up the finale and I think of it as one episode. If I had to choose which of the two parts I liked better, I would go with Calling slightly. Exodus had a fantastic season ending cliffhanger with Clark leaving and Lex going down in the plane.

8) Duplicity - Love this episode. I was always a fan of the Clark/Pete relationship and I really enjoyed how they handled Pete finding out. It is a shame that they could not do more with Pete in the long run.

9) Lineage - Great mythology episode.

10) Witness - A truly underrated episode. I know that many people don't like it. However, I find it to be highly enjoyable. Great suspense and action. Plus, you actually get to see Clark use his head in battle.

*Skinwalker gets honorable mention as a very close # 11.

Yeah, I don't hate "Witness." In fact, there were a lot of plot points I liked about it, such as Lionel's slowly moving in to forge a partnership with Chloe and lead her to the dark side, and all the blow-outs Clark and Chloe had that served to shape their relationship and force them to approach it in a more mature way by the next season. It also featured the second kid from "Home Improvement" to show up on Smallville. I keep waiting for the guy who played Mark to show up as a FOTW, now, LOL.

Well first off i dident really like this season so i wont have many of my favorite episodes.

1.Red-The introduction of red k was awesome before the writers showed us Exile.

2.Visage-Tina comming back was awesome, and the kryptonite necklace part was awesome.

3.Rush- I only like this because of the return of red k

4.Calling-The plot and dr.walden was awesome.

5.Duplicity-Pete found out

6.Ryan-We all asked if Ryan could back.They got him but with a sad ending

7.Fever-It was great seeing Chloes feeling towards clark

8.Exodus-It was a good season finale but not one of the best

9.Heat-Showed another great power

10.Rosotta-Good storyline but kinda boring

4. Lineage (Love the flashbacks, hate the annoying redheaded woman)
5. Visage (Tina er creepy, but I think it was nice seeing "Whitney" again, sad ending)
6. Red (Clark on red kryptonite is kinda cool)
7. Heat (Clark learning to control heat vision is fun although the whole thing is so awkward for the Kents, expecially when Clark needs to be alone:rotfl:)
8. Visitor (I kinda liked the storyline, the healing of the horsie, the end)
9. Insurgence (Despite not liking Martha very much (even less with Lionel) this is a cool episode, Lex stands up for himself and sweet Kents reunion)
10. Rosette (Oh man this should be higher on the list, but it always comes out like this. I did really enjoy the episode. It's just on nr 10 because I suck at placing the eps like this lol. I enjoyed the Kents moments a lot, expecially the final between Clark and Jonathan and that hug awww. Dr. Swann was cool too of course)
