this is all real new to me. say i found this really nice picture on a website and want to use it for my avater. how do i do that? i did it once and it didnt work, so i dont think i'm doing it right.
my second question is how does one put pictures in their signature box? what are the steps to do these two things?
nevermind. i did!! i did it!! sorry anytime something works out i get all giddy.

1. The picture for you avatar can't be bigger than 60x60 pixels. Download the picture to your computer then upload it to your profile.
2. We have signature rules. It can't be bigger than 500 pixels wide and 100 High. So you're going to have to change it.
If you look above you will see a thread tacked to the top of the Help forum which would have answered all your questions on Avatars and Signatures.

Right click on the picture and a menu should appear.
At the bottom there should be Properties. Click on this and it should show the Dimensions of the picture, = how many pixels.
Hope this helps :)

I also want to mention to make sure that it's a picture you have permission to use. If it's a common publicity photo, that's alright, but if it's something you've only seen in one place, you might want to ask before using it.

Right, we don't want anyone stealing someone's artwork or personal picture.

You might want to rethink that. If you resize it to fit the boundaries of a sig or avatar you may end up with a much smaller picture. You might want to conside croping the pic to fit the size instead. Just make sure you know what you part of the picture you want to show off.

hmm, maybe you can post the picture here so we can see what we're dealing with.

its from the last scene of Buffy's series finale. so maybe it will work by cutting down the bottom of the screencap to fit where Buffy and her Scoobies's legs are, but i dont know how to do that.

Well the only way would be the Azure way where he can make the picture scroll. Even if you cut it down and resize it the pic won't look good.

i was thinking that because of the width of picture. so i should find another picture that is smaller. but screencaps are okay to use?

Oh, the picture should be no problem for him to use unless you find one you like better. And yes, caps are fine :)
