OK, I have an idea for a new game. It's called "Play the Numbers". Basically, I'm going to give you a math problem (basic addition and subtraction) with a twist. I'm NOT going to provide the numbers. I will give you clues and from those clues, YOU will fill the numbers into the problem. Answers can be given in one of two ways. Simply as a number. Or you could make that number correspond to something else. (I will leave this up to the questioner). Here is a non Smallville example...

The year Neil Armstrong walked on the moon

minus

The number of states in the United States of America

plus

the number in the title of Keiffer Sullivan's Fox TV show

equals

What United States president?

Confused? Don't be. Let's go back...

The year Neil Armstrong walked on the moon (69)

minus

The number of states in the United States of America (50)

plus

the number in the title of Keiffer Sullivan's Fox TV show (24)

equals

What United States president? (43rd)

69-50 = 19

19+24= 43

And the 43rd president of the United States was George W. Bush!

Now let's do it SMALLVILLE style!

The episode # when Jonathan Kent dies (forget about the season, just worry about the episode #)

minus

The number of seasons of Smallville we've had so far

plus

The number of times Ryan James has appeared on the show

plus

The number of times Alicia has appeared on the show

equals

what season 2 episode?

*Standard rules apply. The first person to answer correctly gets to pose the next question.

If you remember, a certain episode was prematurely announced as the finale. Once the writers strike ended, the actors were called back to shoot a few more. Those few episodes aired back to back after a hiatus.

skully

OK...

18 (18 May 2005) + 10 (October 1989) = 28

Hmm, varieties of kryptonite on show could be either 5 or 6 (green, red, black, silver, blue and clear (after Bizarro absorbs "greenness"). Am I missing one, MrsK, to give 7, or perhaps you don't count silver (not really kryptonite??) and clear = 4, to give a number that divides into 28 evenly.

28 divided by 4 = 7, or 28 divided by 7 = 4

7 - 4 (epis with Dr Steven Hamilton) = 3 (so can't be 7 kryptonites otherwise it'd be 4-4 = 0)

So I think the Season 1 episode is S01E03 = Hothead

Moving to tougher numbers already I see!

Well, Clark mentioned that he was 18 in Hidden, so he turned 19 in Oracle.

According to Wikipedia, there were 12 issues of Smallville the Comic published (11 numbered issues plus a one-shot)

19 + 12 = 31 (which is a prime number, not divisible by anything else, so maybe the number of issues you were after is 11...)

19 + 11 = 30

Annette O'Toole appeared as a guest on the Partridge Family. Imdb lists her as having been in 132 episodes, but I don't think that is right... Either way it's too big a number to divide into 30. Hmm...

How about Patrick Cassidy (Henry Small), who was the son of Shirley Jones and half-brother of David Cassidy? He was in 5 episodes of Smallville.

30/5 = 6

The sum of the digits in Rachel Dunleavy's house: 1+4+3+6 = 14

6+14 = 20

S06E20 is Noir.

I think the division can help us to know if we're on the right track - as long as we're talking numbers that divide evenly into one another - you've got to have the previous numbers right or it won't work! :)

skully

Unless HU can get this resurrected to the Front page Games sub-forum, probably not gonna be much action, so I'll solve my own question...

Clark and Lex were in Molly Griggs' apartment 927 in Centennial Tower Apartments in Delete when Clark saw the last email that Molly sent was to CNH320@instamail.org. (his parents' email address)

So that's 927 minus 320 = 607

GA has been in 3 seasons (S6, 7 and 8)

607 + 3 = 610

Clark barged in on Lex and his 2 German buddies in Legacy - episode 61 of the series.

610 / 61 = 10

06-02-2009, 10:24 AM
You were right the first time, Skully; I counted Eva Greer, so it was, indeed "Crush!"

As for yours, I thought it was 600 game hens, divided by 30 years would be 20, plus 60 points from the Metros game would be 80, divided by 5 would be sixteen... Thus, would the answer by any chance be...

"Lucy?"

I've made another error. First score we hear his "Vipers 61-60". Metros score is 60...

10 + 60 = 70

70 / 5 = 14

The number of Clark's game jersey when he was a freshman = 32

the number on his game jersey as a senior = 8

the number of millions Lana stole from Lex = 10

the number of episodes Dr. Grohl has appeared in = 4 (although Bill Mondy also appeared as James Beales in Nicodemus)

the number of former jocks Jeremy Creek took revenge against = 3

So...

32 / 8 = 4
4 x 10 = 40
40 - 4 = 36

number of years Buffy presided over the Tri Psis = 6

Another reference I have found says there were 15 deaths in the 2nd meteor shower (MrsK is possibly using a newspaper article screencap that I can't readily place - thought it might have been the newspaper Lana was reading in her SMC bed at the end of Arrival with the article mentioning the death of Genevieve and Jason Teague - "You owe me - L" - but couldn't see anything).

Anyway, if 15 is correct then that would give...

15 x 6 = 90

3 / 3 = 1
1 + 4 = 5

In Insurgence, Clark goes through a window on the 30th floor, but I'm not sure that is the floor they are being held on... Lionel's office is said to be on the 60th floor in Exile. Can's subtract 60 from 40.
It is on 39 or 40 in Sneeze, but that is after his return from prison. I'll try 30

The number of deaths in stray 3 (pawn shop owner, wife, janitor)
Then the square root of all these comes down to which Season 8 Episode

4 x 2 = 8
8 + 12 = 20
20 x 3 = 60
60 + 3 = 63

I'm one off somewhere, because the square root of 63 isn't a whole number. I assume you are shooting for 64 (who's the 4th death in Stray?)

According to SV wiki, there are 7 deaths in Reckoning through Void, counting both of those episodes. (Not the number I came up with, by the way; wiki left out the two scientists who died in Honduras at the beginning of Hypnotic.)

The number of all Smallville episodes (Pilot-Doomsday) 174
plus
The sum of the year of the meteor shower 1 + 9 + 8 + 9 = 27
times
The number of the buttons (not floors) in the elevator at SMC I don't know what episode you saw this in, but in Rosetta when Clark gets on the elevator to open the envelope from Dr. Swann, there are 5 buttons.
plus
The amount of cents on the dollar that the state bought the kawache caves 30 (Skinwalker)
plus
The number of deaths from Reckoning to Void 7
square root
minus
The number of the episode Hypnotic (in the season) 18
equals
what third season episode?

So:

174 + 27 = 201
201 x 5 = 1005
1005 + 30 = 1035
1035 + 7 = 1042
square root of 1042... not a whole number. Back to the drawing board!

If I go with 4 elevator buttons (must be different in different episodes), we get:
201 X 4 = 804
804 + 37 = 841
square root of 841 = 29
29 - 18 = 11

S03E11 = Delete

MrsK

Okay, seven buttons would mean:

If I go with 4 elevator buttons (must be different in different episodes), we get:
201 X 7 = 1407
1407 + 37 = 1444
square root of 1444 = 38

difference between Smallville's latitude and longitude Hmm - in Lineage the postcode given for Smallville would indicate Lat 38.4 Long -98.4 - diff = 60. But in Phantom Reeves Dam is at Lat 38.52 and Long -95.32 - diff = 56.8. Or should I be adding them (minus a negative number means add)? I'll try 60.

Maximum amount of time (in minutes) Lex had to spend with Students for Lex Luthor = 5 (Fanatic)

Can't take cube root of 65 so something's not right.

MrsK, should I be using the Phantom Lat and Long numbers or Lineage? The difference in the Phantom numbers is strictly 38.52 - (-95.32) = 133.84, or do you mean 3852 - (-9532) = 13384, or 9532 - 3852 = 5680? Or are you after the difference in absolute numbers e.g 60 in Lineage?

The street that Club Zero is on 78th (Zero)
plus
The number of image that moves forward by the power of 4 every 6th cycle
divided by 7 (Odyssey)
The sum of the digits in the year of the Chicago fire that Chloe was mad that Clark didn't put out 1 + 8 + 7 + 1 = 17 (Kinetic)
plus
The speed (mph) that Lana hit Victor at 30 (Cyborg)
multiplied by
The number of times a day Tommy Lee was injected with serum in Belle Reve 3 (Mortal)
minus
The hour that Dr Teng's office hours began 5 (Velocity)
The square root equals
Which Season 1 Episode?

78 + 7 = 85
85/17 = 5
5 + 30 = 35
35 x 3 = 105
105 - 5 = 100
square root of 100 = 10

S01E10 = Shimmer
