Well that took all day, and I'm thrilled I got all the answers filled in, but I am horrible with math and may need some help with this.OK Melanie. Get your calculator out (a scientific one preferrably) and do the following equations (I'll use smileys to represent each answer you need):
100,000 x 3 =
 / (divided by) 5 =
 - 815 =
 + 134 = :p
Cube Root of :p (on the scientific calculator hit the x^y button and type 0.33333333333333333333) - you will need to round this to the whole number just above e.g. if the answer is 2.99999999996 then that equals 3. = ;)
;) + 55 = :D
:D - 16 = :\
:\ / (Divided by) 26 = :o
:o + 3 =
S08E0:eek: = ?
rockyshadow
08-12-2009, 12:28 AM
100,000 x 3 = 300,000
300,000/5 = 60,000
60,000 - 815 = 59,185
59,185 + 134 = 59,319
Cube Root = 38.99999999 or 39
39 + 55 = 94
94 - 16 = 78
78/26 = 3
3 + 3 = 6

160/40= 4
4 x165 = 660
660 x 10= 6600
6600- 39 = 6561
Square Root 81
81/27 = 3
3 x 99 =297
297 + 46 = 343
Cube Root 6.9999 = 7
7 + 13 = 20
Equals Season 1EP 20 = Obscura?
I guarantee that if he square and cube roots worked, you are right on track (and the cube root of 343 is definitely 7). :D I think you can be confident enough that you are right to go ahead and post another. Good job, Mel.:)

FINALLY I have a new puzzle for ya'll.
Take the series episode number in which “Chloe” “woke up on the right side of the bed.”
Find the square root of that, Plus...
The series episode number in which Jonathan Taylor Thomas’ character got whacked by a Jimmy Olsen lookalike.
Divided By...
The series episode number in which we saw the FIRST party Clark had that went a little overboard, and a certainly follically-challenged guest brought something to make it a raving success.
Times...
The series episode number of the show where Chloe Sullivan actually wrote her phone number on a guy’s hand... or was he a “dog?”
Plus...
The series episode number when Lana had a close encounter with some alien invaders who were definitely NOT “My Favorite Martian(s).”
Divided by...
The series episode number of the show during which Chloe taught Clark a chemistry lesson -- “some people have it; others don’t.”
Plus...
The series episode number where Lana’s desire to climb a windmill has almost-tragic results, and Jonathan takes a walk on the wild side.
Equals...
What Season 3 Episode?

Take the series episode number in which “Chloe” “woke up on the right side of the bed.” = Hmm, not sure you've got this right, SG. Lois said that to Chloe at the DP when Chloe was mad at her over her relationship with Grant Gabriel in Blue, which is episode number 140.
Find the square root of that, Plus...
The series episode number in which Jonathan Taylor Thomas’ character got whacked by a Jimmy Olsen lookalike. = 53 (Asylum)
Divided By...
The series episode number in which we saw the FIRST party Clark had that went a little overboard, and a certainly follically-challenged guest brought something to make it a raving success. = 8 (Jitters)
Times...
The series episode number of the show where Chloe Sullivan actually wrote her phone number on a guy’s hand... or was he a “dog?” = 5 (Cool)
Plus...
The series episode number when Lana had a close encounter with some alien invaders who were definitely NOT “My Favorite Martian(s).” = 89 (Arrival)
Divided by...
The series episode number of the show during which Chloe taught Clark a chemistry lesson -- “some people have it; others don’t.” = 23 (Heat)
Plus...
The series episode number where Lana’s desire to climb a windmill has almost-tragic results, and Jonathan takes a walk on the wild side. = 15 (Nicodemus)
Equals...
What Season 3 Episode?
Assuming the first episode number is meant to be 144
Square Root of 144 = 12
12 + 53 = 65
65 / 8 = doesn't work
Maybe Justice was the first epi (121) although there was no mention of Chloe waking up on the right side of the bed.
That would be:
Square Root of 121 = 11
11 + 53 = 64
64 / 8 = 8
8 x 5 = 40
40 + 89 = 129
129 / 23 = doesn't work.
Is there a line missing, SG? Or am I way off with an answer?
SGuthrie27
08-18-2009, 04:39 AM
The only thing you're off on is the first answer. I recently rewatched a particular Season 8 episode where Chloe said the line about "waking up on the right side of the bed," but I will hint that she wasn't quite "herself" in that particular scene. ;) However, I did mess up on one of my clues... I was thinking that "Heat" was episode 24 instead of 23 -- I'd forgotten that Season 1 only had 21 episodes when I came up with that clue. We can change that clue to read "The series episode number of the show during which Chloe said she thought aliens were "little and green." :D The rest of your math is perfect.

Okey dokey. So it's Hex for the Q1 but I'm still not sure it works.
Take the series episode number in which “Chloe” “woke up on the right side of the bed.” = 169 (Hex)
The series episode number of the show during which Chloe said she thought aliens were "little and green." = 24 (Duplicity)
Plus...
The series episode number where Lana’s desire to climb a windmill has almost-tragic results, and Jonathan takes a walk on the wild side. = 15 (Nicodemus)
Equals...
What Season 3 Episode?
Square Root of 169 = 13
13 + 53 = 66
66 / 8 = 8.25 ??
8.25 x 5 = 41.25??
Something still appears amiss. Is the second line meant to give 64?
But even then it would be
64 / 8 = 8
8 x 5 = 40
40 + 89 = 129
129 / 24 = 5.375??
The nearest episode to give an number divisible by 24 is Krypto (Series epi 80 - but Lana didn't have a close encounter with aliens in that epi), then...
40 + 80 = 120
120 / 24 = 5
5 + 15 =20
S03E20 = Talisman

Hmm, are the first 2 the wrong way around MrsK? I'll try them reversed...
1943 - 1936 = 7
7 + 1913 = 1920
1920 - 15 = 1905
1905 / 60 = doesn't work
Or...
1936 - 1943 = -7
- 7 + 1913 = 1906
1906 - 15 = 1891
1891 / 60 = doesn't work.
The number of the Foundry furnace in Witness is 1913, isn't it, MrsK? Or do you see it as 1918. Or do we see a different date in maybe Metamorphosis or Gone (I couldn't see a date in either)?
Can you clarify the first line of the equation, the Foundry establishment date and whether you interpret the MUC children as 1 or 2?
However, working backwards from the division of Plant no. 4 in Wrath...
The 1st bit of the equation!!!!...
1860 / 60 = 31
31 + 1 = 32
32 / 4 = 8
8 Squared = 64
64 / 16 = 4
Square Root of 4 = 2
S08E02 = Plastique?
What a mess! Sorry. You have the dates right, and I think I must have transposed a couple of digits in my head or something when I was doing this. Maybe I left out a step. I can't even figure out what I was trying to do!! :(
I did think Clark and Maxima were on the 22nd floor when the doors opened, however. That could be because of an editing error, though. I just re-watched the scene, and when she slams him up against the wall, it reads 15, but after the doors open, when Maxima says, "Let her go" it reads 22.
I was looking for Plastique, however, so good job on getting the right answer from a jumbled mess of clues!

Hehe, fair enough, Cfp. :)
Okay, if no one else knows it... I believe it is Precipice, episode number 40.
Someone else (probably Mel) should complete the equation.
skully
08-28-2009, 08:08 PM
Cheers for the clean up MrsK. So the equation is...
The episode in which Clark's ears bleed = 143 (Siren)
Multiplied by
The episode in which we see the best catfight (involving two teenage mains) in SV history = 55 (Delete)
Plus
The episode in which Clark superspeeds into a herd of cows = 85 (Blank)

The episode in which Clark is invited to "Zip" = 159 (Identity)

143 x 55 = 7865
7865 + 85 = 7950
7950/159 = 50
Square Root 50
50 - 40 = 10
I think I'm stuck. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can someone help me with the steps for this again, please?
I think you are taking the square root when you should be squaring the number:
143 x 55 = 7865
7865 +85 = 7950
7950 / 159 = 50
50 x 50 = 2500
skully
08-28-2009, 08:33 PM
Indeed. Square means "multiply by itself". Sorry Mel, should have been clearer.
Thanks MrsK.

143 x55= 7865
7865 + 85 = 7950

Square 2500
2500 - 40 = 2460
2460/ 123 = 20
20 + 96 = 116
116 - 37 = 79
79/79= 1

The season episode number where a Lana lookalike flies
This one is escaping me at the moment. Gonna have to think about it... If my math is right, it has to be a number that goes evenly into 120, and the answer can't be higher than 27, so I can rule out episodes numbered anything but 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, or 20.
----- Added 11 Minutes later -----
Ah! Relic - episode 6.
so
22 x 20 = 440
440 + 1 = 441
square root of 441 is 21
21 x 19 = 399
399 / 3 - 133
133 - 13 - 120
120 / 6 = 20
20 - 5 = 15
S05E15 = Cyborg

Hehehe, spot on. Fancy not remembering Louise McCallum's flight with Joe immediately. KK was stunning in that epi in the short black wig.
Well done, you're up. :)

You are clearly a bit busy at the moment, MrsK. Just bumping for whenever you get a spare 5. :)
Wow - I had forgotten about this thread! I've been having computer problems this week, on top of having one of my kids home with the flu (fortunately a mild case...). I'll try to get something up soon. If anyone else would like to post one, please feel free! :)
Alright I'll try one:

Could you, please, explain these two ? I don't really understand what are you refering to. Thanks.

Welcome aboard DarkByte.
OK. Somewhere in the series, Lois says to Clark "you went from X to, like Y in 2 seconds flat." She was referring to speed and I'm after the speed Y she mentioned. She was essentially urging him to slow down.
Similarly, in an episode Lois says that the dream she's having becomes X times brighter when she sees Clark. I'm after the number she used.
Sorry, these can be tough, but if you know your Smallville (as many in this Games section do), you'll know which episodes to find those two references. :D

Of course Lois was dangling 100 stories above the pavement in Idol, the 10 times brighter line was from Pandora, and the 10 minute explanation time was given in Crossfire. :)

I think I'll pass on this section for now. I've only seen Smallville once (each and every episode) and I'm watching it again, but only got to the 3rd season :)

4,295,550,169 - 169 = 4,295,550,000
4,295,550,000 / 1,000 = 4,295,550
4,295,550 / 50 = 85,911
85,911 / 21 = 4,091
4,091 - 91 = 4,000
4,000 / 4 = 1,000
1,000 / 5 = 200
200 - 28 = 172

Correct, I was hoping that starting with number of nearly 4.3 billion would increase the difficulty!
I will put a new one up tomorrow, if that's okay.
