Hey guys I'm working on a summary of smallville seasons 1-8 just for my own personal enjoyment and i've got it finished but i just want to make sure i didnt leave any key moments out or things that have largely advance the plot. So i was wondering what you guys would consider some of the biggest moments in smallville?

I would do this by season to make it easier. Do a subheading for each season, then have everybody cut and paste the existing suggestions and then add their own. Here is a very rough idea of what I mean (just to get things started)
Season 1
Freak of the week
Season 2
Clark's origins (the Kwatche Caves, meeting Virgil Swann)
Season 3
the experiments using Clark's blood
Season 4
Clark Kent, football player
the stones of knowledge
Season 5
Brainiac
Jonathan's death
Season 6
Lexana
the arrival of Green Arrow
Season 7
Bizzaro
Kara
Veritas
Season 8
The Red Blue Blur
Doomsday
The CLark-Lois relationship

I'll just stick with season one for now.
Always thought the stuff in Rogue is pretty significant. As is what happens in Zero concerning Lex's background.

Season 2- Clark hearing his birthname Kal-El for the first time, and also hearing his birth father.

This but I'll add Clark in the cave wall at the end of season 3 and the Legion in season 8 (thats of great comic significance, Legion is to Superboy what JLA is to Superman)

So going into the last season, I've been thinking back on some of the "turning point" moments in SV history. So I was going to throw some out there, with some explanations, and see what people thought. I had 5 originally but added one because I couldn't figure out how to limit it to 5! I'm bored lol and really anxious for S10! I hope people will respond with their own lists!
6. Lana gets zapped with kryptonite - Most people hated this ending for Clana, and I wasn't crazy about it either. But the fact is that no matter how Lana and Clark parted ways it was always going to be a huge moment on the show. After more than 7 years, one of the main storylines of the show was over. Clark and Lana were finally done.
5. Lex kills Lionel - In SV's world, this is what pushes Lex past the point of redemption. Early in the show it was always hinted that Lionel killed his parents, and Lex constantly talked about wanting to avoid following in his father's footsteps and destiny. Obviously that didn't happen.
4. Clark launches the crystal and builds the fortress - I almost forgot this, but Clark didn't learn about who he was or what Krypton was, until the FOS was built. It was a rocky start for them but obviously Clark would never have gotten to where he is now without Jor-El.
3. Salvation moments - I put these into one because so much Superman came from this episode. Lois finding out the secret will obviously be huge as they're on the way to being together and Lois will surely have a big role in pushing him to becoming SM. And obviously, when Clark opens up the box Martha left for him, he sees the most iconic piece of Superman - the suit.
2. Jonathan Kent dies - I think Clark learned more from Jonathan Kent than from anyone else on the show, and he learned more from Jonathan's death than from anything else that happened. He saved Lana with no regard to Jor-El's warning, and he learned with his power and destiny he could not afford to make rash decisions. But mostly, Clark lost his biggest influence....at least until S10!
1. Lex hits Clark on the bridge - Now, people might call me crazy for saying the most important moment happened in the Pilot episode. But think about it - this is the first time we ever saw Clark save a life, and had Lex hit anyone else, he and the person he hit would have both been dead. Instead, from the second they met, without knowing it, they gradually began on two divergent paths that influenced each other over and over again. And we know eventually Lex will become his greatest enemy. The question the show always asked though, is would Lex have become what he becomes if Clark had told him the secret and the Kents had embraced him? That's the beauty of the story, we'll never know!

7. Discovery of the Kawatche Caves. This discovery impelled Clark to look deeper into his heritage. During this period (season 2) he realized that it wasnt just about him and what he wanted to do. There were prophecies that talked about his greatest enemy being a friend at first, and his ultimate love. From the caves (finally putting the key into the wall) he learned the Kryptonian language. It eventually led him to be in contact with Virgil Swann, who clued him in on his past. He was from Krypton and the planet no longer exists. His name is Kal-El and his parents sent him here to save him and because they loved him.

I like your list. Nice job. MY only comment would be to switch #s 1 and 2. There is a noticeable difference in Clark (and the show as a whole) before Jonathan's death and afterwards. Clark goes from making rash decisions and being "scolded" by his dad to being the guy "scolding" people like Oliver.

What about..
8. Jimmy's death which lead to the opening of Watchtowter.
I'm not sure where I'm going with the reason on this though.

Um....
9. Clark joins the Daily Planet.
10. Clark develops a double identity and starts saving the day in Metropolis.
5. Lex kills Lionel - In SV's world, this is what pushes Lex past the point of redemption. Early in the show it was always hinted that Lionel killed his parents, and Lex constantly talked about wanting to avoid following in his father's footsteps and destiny. Obviously that didn't happen.
This is the first one that came to mind. Great scene.

Jimmy's or Henery's death. Clana was and can be fixed that was unforgivable! Clois getting together, Clois meeting, and Lois being Clark's only link to humanity.

11. Chloe finding out Clark's secret - one of the best scenes ever in Arrival when she admits that she knows. Her encouragement has led to him embracing who he really is.

I agree about Chloe finding out, I thought of that later and it was huge. She was his mine confidant for 5 years after. Clark joining the DP is big in the mythology, but to me it just didn't seem huge on this show. Clark developing the dual identity was big, but it's not THE identity and he's not public yet, so I disagree with that one.

when lex says "i am the villian of the story"
When Clark finds Johnathan at the graveyard visiting Hiram Kent, Johnathan says to Clark, "I don't know how to protect you anymore." And, Clark says, "It's not your job to protect me. Your job is to teach me how to protect myself."
I always liked that one.

...I've, under a new name, returned to this crazed-fan site. Wow. Last time I posted was May 2008.
At that time, Kara was subdued by BrainIAC and became trapped in the Phantom Zone. Lex came to the knowledge of the 'Traveler,' and turned completely toward evil in utter disguist of his father's designs and of Clark's distrustfulness. Lana was making the wise and noble move to leave... Clark... alone. The Fortress of Solitude was crumbling like broken trust between two good friends. My, what has happened since!
I've been an a two-year LDS mission in New Jersey, and it was wonderful, but it kept me in the Phantom Zone as far as this show was concerned! I'm stuck in suspended animation when it comes to the progression of the story over the past two seasons!
Hey Craig, talked to ya on Facebook a couple of weeks ago. Once smallvillelogan, now fulfillingdestiny. I'm ready to catch up.
Have now seen episodes 1-2, 9-11 of Season 8, and "holy smoke" is all I can say. These plots only get better...

...I think my avatar picture was taken while I was gone. Well, I'll take it back anyway.
For me (one who is only through seven seasons and five S8 episodes):
1) Collision on The Bridge
2) Death of Jonathan Kent, after Clark's vow with Jor-El
3) Chloe learning Clark's secret. How different things would have been had she not learned.
4) Clark joining the Daily Planet (with very little college education? Still...)
5) Lana leaving
Lex learning Clark's secret is probably in the top 3 for me, once/if he ever returns to the show this final season. Other than that, it's just great plot tension.

not that I blame Chloe for this but after he told her his secret he basically shacked up in his barn and became a hermit for 3 seasons
As for most important moments probably most stuff in the Pilot, that set the wheels in motion
-Kents see Clark for first time
-Lex hits Clark
-Clark finally talks to Lana in graveyard

Since episode no. 2-0-0 is this Friday. Anticipaction is on a fury mode right now. And I know most of you who have watched this show since its inception, including me we all been through the cast, the crew, the storylines, the troubles, the villains, the moments that will make us cry and others that just say WT...?!.
So in this high expectation and high anticipation, I'm going do a epic list. The top 200 moments of Smallville. Nearly all the nine seasons will be in this list, and watch out though season 10 is heading to its fourth episode...there are some moments already that will be in the list; so watch out for that.
To start it all of...
#200 The death of Tina Greer (Visage)
#199 Clark saves Lex and Earl (Jitters)
#198 The first Meteor freak - Jeremy Creek (Pilot)
#197 Morgan Edge in Smallville (Exile/Phoenix/Shattered)

In Accelerate Clark ran in water-effects. Lana ran in Crisis. Emily ran in Covenant. If Lana did run in water-effects in Accelerate, just ignore my post :)
Love the rest. Brings back memories for this fan since S1.

You're right, it was Emily not Lana after seeing the Season 3 dvd intro; and it was in Forsaken. So I made just a mistake in the name and episode.
The next ten is coming very shortly.

It's like a best of list, just retelling many memorable moments that just say "this is Smallville"
