I've watched it a few times. Thought it was good. Anthony Michael Hall makes the show. Not literally.

Actually i think you're right. He makes the show (though not literally like you said  ) but he's very compelling and utterly believable as Johnny Smith.

I watch the show, unfortunatelly in French, because I`m not from the U.S. Another problem I`ve got is that nobody seems to have
downloadable episodes of this show.

Does anyone else watch the show "The Dead Zone" on USA?? I always ignored the show because I could not fathom there being a weekly television show based on The Dead Zone. I loved both the book by Stephen King and the film with Christopher Walken and I was worried that the show would ruin the name. Plus, the show's main star is Anthony Michael Hall, who played nothing but geeks in all of the John Hughes movies.

However, I just finished with season 1 on DVD and I must say that I was seriously impressed. Anthony Michael Hall did a very good job as Johnny Smith. The first season had 13 episodes, and I would have to say that at least 10 of them were excellent.

The only thing that sucks, is that season 2 comes out on DVD two days after season 3 premieres on television. I can't watch season 3, until I have seen all of season 2. I will probably tape all of season 3, and watch it after it is done airing.

Based on what I have seen so far, I would have to give this show a "B+" and I have heard that season 2 is even better.

I watched a little bit of it. Thought it looked pretty good, though I'm no Stephen King fan as a rule (a lot of his stuff is too gruesome for me!). I may look at some of the new episodes when the season starts.

Does anyone else besides me watch The Dead Zone on USA?? It is seriously one of the best shows on television. This show turned out to be a pleasant suprise for me, because it was always a show that I stayed away from. I mean with Anthony Michael Hall as the main character, I had my doubts. Plus the story from Stephen King's book is pretty specific and seems like it would be hard to stretch out for a weekly television show. However, I ordered the first season on DVD and it turned out to be pretty good. The second season however, was one of the most enjoyable and well rounded seasons I have ever seen from any television show. It is neck and neck with season three of Smallville. It is that good.

I have my doubts about the third season though. It just started on USA three weeks ago. So far, this season has had some very good ideas behind the episodes. However, they got rid of a main character and added Sarah Wynter to the cast to be Johnny's new love interest. She is very annoying, and is taking away from the season so far. I did not like Sarah Wynter's character Kate Warner in season 2 of "24" either. I wish they would get rid of her, and bring back the character Dana Bright.

You have to buy the second season of The Dead Zone on DVD. It was so good, that it was neck and neck with the third season of Smallville. Not only was it amazing for the show itself, but it was one of the best seasons I have ever seen from any television show. There were 19 episodes, and 18 of them were amazing. They hook you from the start, and do not let go until the end credits. It was so addicting, that I went through all 19 episodes in 2 days.

I'm loving the 3rd season. The whole idea of Johny saving himself...cool. I also really like how he has to live with the knowledge of the future (or a possible future) on his shoulders.

I like season one and two but three....I'm not so sure. I really like Johny/Sara even though she's married to the cop. I don't like this new girl.

And Everything that happens in the eps keeps confusing me!

Season 1 was very good.

Season 2 was amazing, and is one of the best seasons I have ever seen from any television show. It was neck and neck with season three of Smallville.

However, I am torn on season three.

The ideas behind the episodes have been great - Johnny being convicted of murder, discovering who saved Johnny the night of his accident, and according to the previews for next week, J.J. finds out that Johnny is his father. We are getting everything we wanted.

But, it still feels like something is wrong with season three. If I had to say why I feel this way, I would have to say that it is due to Sarah Wynter's character Rebecca. She is attractive, but very annoying. Is she going to accompany John everytime he tries to solve a case? I hope not. I have a problem with Sarah Wynter in general. I don't think she is that great an actress. I did not like her character Kate Warner in season 2 of "24" either.

Plus, where is Dana Bright and Bruce? We have not seen Dana at all yet, and Bruce was only in the first episode. We need to see more appearances from the supporting characters. I also hope that we will get to see more confrontations between Greg Stilson and Johnny!! Greg Stilson is my favorite character.

Did anyone catch the latest episode "Cold Hard Truth" last night?? It was awesome. It is the first episode of season three, that really feels like the old episodes of the Dead Zone. I am so glad that we finally got to see Bruce come back, and JJ finding out that Johnny is his father, was one of the most emotional scenes of the show to date. Jack Jericho was a great character as well. The actor who played him, did a great job bringing the shock jock to life.

Hopefully, Sarah Wynter's character Rebecca will continue to stay out of future episodes, because she is the only thing bringing down season three at this point. Don't get me wrong. Like I said before, season three has been pretty good, and I like the storylines used so far. It's just that something felt off for the first three episodes, and in my opinion it is Sarah Wynter.

Dead Zone is still ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS EVER.

I have not watched any of S4 yet however, and I head that the latest episode dealing with Christmas stunk.

S2 is still one of the best seasons out of any show I have ever seen.

Ironically, the S3 finale is my favorite episode of the show. Back when I posted in this thread, S3 was just getting underway. Since I have only seen the first three seasons, I am gonna have to say that season three is still the weakest one, but it was good. But man that finale was just amazing. Best episode of the show in my opinion.

I am kinda skeptical about S4 though... :(

I love the Dead Zone as well and agree that the 2nd season was the best...The funny thing is that I kind of had a hard time with Johnny being around Sarah so much and her husband not having issues so I thought him having sort of like a girlfriend would make more sense. But I agree with you Ryan I really think it is just the actress herself. She also annoys me and I think for me this is why it isn't working when it should.

I also like Greg Stilson and see a pattern with you also since My favorite character is him and also on Smallville my favorite is Lex..so I guess I really like a good bad guy ;)

Stilson is my favorite character of the show without a doubt. One thing that made S3 weaker, was that Stilson was not shown as much.

I'm more of a Johnny fan. I have an immedate connection to the character for some reason and love his ideas on taking action.

I've got S1,S2, and S3 on DVD. I'm a fan of all three but my favorite was S3.

Derek,

Your favorite was S3?

The S3 finale is my favorite episode of the show, but overall I thought it was the weakest season. The show was at its all time best in S2. So many great episodes.

My bad. It's Season Two. Season Three had small parts like I really liked but Season Two had some of the strongest arcs and one of my favorite introductions to the season. Felt that way on Season 3's intro, but Season Two had my favorite episodes:

Valley of the Shadow
Descent
Ascent
Preciptate
Misbegotten
Cabin Pressure
Playing God
Zion
The Storm
Visions

Almost all of that season lol.

Had to re-review my DVDs since I haven't had the chance to watch them in a long while.

Based on the Stephen King novel, Johnny Smith (Anthony Michael Hall) was put into a coma for 5 years after a car accident. Upon regaining consciousness he realizes he now has psychic abilities by touching things. A subplot of the show revolves around Johnny trying to stop a politician from gaining office after getting a vision of Armageddon from him.

What are you thoughts on thsi show?

Loved the movie, and what I've seen of the series is pretty good. Hall is great at the role. Much better than I would have imagined. Guys, his girlfriend, Wynter...she is HOT! Agree Stilson plot should be followed more because it would make things much more interesting.

I've seen the first 4 seasons on dvd so far. Season 1 was BY FAR the best season, after that it faded into a pale imitation of itself. So many bad eps in seasons 2 through 4, so many. Just dreadful. I mean what the f*** happened?!

Seasons 2, 3 and 4 are all pretty much equally bad, but if I had to choose the very worst it would be Season 3. Season 2, while mediocre overall, at least had more total episodes, so I would rate it higher than 3 and 4 for that reason. But again, what happened, what happened, what in the name of all things holy happened to this show. lol

Anyway I just saw the first ep of Season 5 on dvd last night, and it was a very mediocre premiere. Not a promising start at all. Ugh, here we go again.... Can someone tell me why I keep buying these?

"Can someone tell me why I keep buying these? "

Anthony Michael Hall of course! :)

Scheduling was so wonky for me that I ended up buying seasons 1-5 all at once just so I could watch the episodes in order. And not have to watch at 2 am. Season 6 didn't even air in Canada so I bought it when it came out recently on DVD. I enjoyed the show a lot. Season 6 did take a different turn. More of Johnny. Probably to save money on the rest of the cast. Even though the show has ended I feel like there's more to be shown.

"Can someone tell me why I keep buying these? "

Anthony Michael Hall of course! :)Lol you're probably right, the character/actor and basic premise as connected to the character are likely what keeps me coming back. I just wish the stories and writing would improve. This series reminds me of Sliders in some respects--great premises, characters and actors, but overall severely lacking in their ability to maintain quality stories/writing. What makes TDZ even worse though is that its seasons are very short, and yet they are still unable to put together a consistently good show. They can barely pull off keeping it half-decent. For this viewer, genuinely good eps are way too few and far between.

Did anyone watch the Dark Knight and see our "Johnny"? :) He was one of the news reporters. At one point he said the word "vision" and I almost fell out of my chair.

Also the one of the trailers I saw before the movie had Anthony Michael Hall in it! Great that he's getting work.

Yes, I actually said out loud, "Hey, it's Johnny!".

Xanderman
09-11-2008, 02:27 PM
Yeah I noticed him too, and I almost felt sorry for him because he looked like such a nobody. lol I'm not sure whether that was supposed to be a respectable "cameo" type thing for him or whether that was just him "desperate for work", taking whatever two-bit roles he can find, lucky to be working at all.

He should have bailed from The Dead Zone series years ago instead of sticking with it to the point of his own oblivion. I'm not sure how TDZ was on as long as it was, when many much better shows with loads of potential have gotten (and continue to get) axed after just a season (or only a few eps). TDZ was given the precious gift of extended television life only to squander it completely. What a waste. (If I sound bitter it's because I am. I keep buying the seasons hoping it will get better but it never does. Overly short seasons with mostly overly mediocre episodes. I sure could have used one of Johnny's visions before buying these....lol)

I just ordered all six seasons for like $87 from Deep Discount. I seen the first two episodes and liked what I have seen so I am going to assume that this show retains it's quality throughout. Is there any other shows like this one out there that I should check out?
