I thought this is a completely different CK and I really liked it. Not that he has lost his faith in humanity but the more passionate , darker, with a purpose Clark Kent. I think Tom did an excellent job with CK, not only is he def. more supes like but also mentally stronger. I was very impressed as to how far he has evolved with CK. This def. was one of my favorites finales and Kudos to Tom for completely taking Clark Kent to the next level. I can't wait to see what he does with him next season. The rest of the cast also did an amazing job with their respective roles. Overall I was very impressed and pleasantly surprised.:D

He was a total MOD EDIT

But that's partly the writers' fault.

Most people hated it. I found it interesting, but was bothered by some stuff. The JL seemed like a waste, no special effects even used. I loved the Clark and Lois scene, but we were promised an amazing moment, and it got close and then just disappeared. Tom was amazing as was AA. Too much is happening off screen and the DD fight was not enough.

To me the budget constraints are starting to show and it's a shame. This show could be so much more amazing if they had a little more $. I can't believe how well they do with what they have, though for the finally, I was expecting more.

MOD EDIT*what was with his "I Lost all faith in humanity" crap? If Clark was ever going to lose his faith, now was a pretty pointless time.

I loved Tom's portrayal actually, he showed determination, leadership, love, respect, took charge of situations, worried about Chloe and Lois, hope and in the end disappointment and emptiness, a lot of emotions to show in one episode, Tom did wonderfully

Tom Welling did an alright job with this episode.

Excellent thread. He has definitely become more intelligent and more committed to his purpose.

Intelligence sort of equates to darker, because innocence is lost. It was tonight, and I'm thrilled.

Wait... This show is about Clark Kent?

Who?

While performance wise Tom did well, this finale was...lackluster imo.

I have always thought Welling has done his job the way each episode demanded. However, certain episodes like this one showed he really is improving and is solid as Super...uh, guy

Tom Welling was amazing. To go through such a roller coaster, to think he's going to die, to have the weight of the world on his shoulders, to lose a friend -- and (think he's lost) Lois. He was wonderful.

CK at the end was interesting. A total turn then what we are used to. Although it's a bonehead move MOD EDIT it's all about maturity and growth. Of course the CK we know and love will come running back to his humies(humans)

Reading this, I realise that it really was a very strong episode for Clark, even though he didn't really take on the problem like we wanted him to, he takes yet another strong turn with his character... I'm hoping to see it develop even more into the superman we know and love. Tom has done a great job, even though the finale in all wasn't my cup of tea exactly, it had some minor issues...

There are a lot of good points being made here. First or all I think it would have helped a lot if the finale had been 2 hours. It is very hard to throw everything that they needed to at us in under and hour. Then things made not have seem as rushed and made little more sense. I agree that given their budget restraints, the actors did the best they could. I thought they all were at their best in the finale. Yes, the moment between Lois and Clark was great but it could have been longer. I do agree how mature he seemed to be in this epi. Although I understand this is Clark Kent's journey into becoming Superman, it did get frustrating for me that his development has been very slow. I mean I'm ok with PS3 taking their time with the whole suit thing and the actual name "superman”, flying and those types of Mythos things. If you are going to have 1 or 2 more seasons then you need to save some of those iconic things for then. But what frustrated me some was CK's metal development. It wasn't until this season that I felt we started to see glimpses of Superman (the man that he is to become) in CK. Superman is more than just a Superhero that wears a cape and tights and flies around and has superpowers. To me Superman has morals and values and stands up for what is right. He not only saves people, but also gives them hope. He was sent to Earth to save humanity. I interpret this not only to save humanity from other kryptonians or monsters but also from humanity itself. He is a beacon of hope. So while it is exciting to see the red and blue outfit and other iconic things, it is even more exciting for me to see Clark Kent getting more serious and focused about his destiny. The whole giving up on humanity thing was different, but I now I see it as the beginning of the self-discovery process. In order for CK to fully become the Superman we all know and love he has to embark in the "self-discovery" journey. Everyone at one point in their lives questions their destiny, existence and life choices. I think once he goes thru this discovery period (which seems to be on the darker side) then he will fully be ready to fulfill his destiny. Well my whole point was lol that Tom did an excellent job showing us this side of Clark Kent.

As someone going through a similar crises, as a child of two worlds, he got it perfectly.
