View Full Version : Season Finale Quality?

Anyone else have the same feeling i did? this season finale just didn't seem like a season finale until the last five minutes. At best it seemed like a mid-way season break to me. Maybe once i re-watch it then i'll feel different but to me it just didn't have that special ding. I mean the Doomsday fight was a doomsday flop, and then there's the whole Jimmy not being the Jimmy we thought he was?

MAybe it's just me but what did you guys think. Did it have that overall season finale feeling?

I think Tess and Lois should have had the final fight.... or at least go with the whole Lois/ring storyline to leave us hanging.....

the fight scenes were awful..... jimmy died but it wasn't really jimmy... his brother is gonna be jimmy..... and now we go back to an idea that happened at the 3nd of season 2 clark leaves.... try something new guys...... just let clark go out there save people and stop feeling sorry for himself..... it's like the guy is down 24/7 if it's not over a chick he blames himself for everything.... is clark kent the new batman all he does is brood....

The quality of this finale was awful. If there was ever an episode to demonstrate the lack of a budget that this show now has, this is it. The entire season was supposed to be about Clark fighting Doomsday and TPTB did not deliver in this episode. If you blink, you'll miss it. The Clark/Titan fight was much better. What a waste.

Um...Yeah, I'm sorry, but I really dislike this season finale. It was very anticlimactic. It didn't feel like a season finale at all.

this season finale was a lot of things and it had too many cliff hangers. How could clark do that? What will happen with Zod? Where is Lois Lane? Is Davis Dead? It seems like a season finale because of the cliff hangers. But i need answers and quick and this was not fullfilling. Isnt the finale suppose to give some answers it just gave me more questions.

Honestly, this episode had so much build-up leading to it. It's quite apparent that fans WANTED to see Doomsday and Clark go at it. We kept hearing for months that Doomsday was unstoppable. Yet, we end up with a TWO MINUTE segment that just does the season's main conflict no justice at all. And, to top it off, Doomsday gets beat so simply its not even funny. It's a slap in the face of the comic book fans.

As well, its a slight cop-out with how they killed Jimmy (he has a younger brother of the same name that we have never really heard anything about [nor seen]?). Finally, I remember saying how Lois was safe from getting the axe this season. Yet, she ends up "missing" at the end? What is wrong with that? We all KNOW she's coming back and that her mythos are so important to Smallville/Superman as a whole!

It makes no sense why they keep treating fans like we know nothing about the Superman mythology. It's slightly infuriating.

But, the build-up to the episode was fine. The episode itself just did not deliver. I really hope they know what their doing with this new season. I know that Season Eight was the first season for this executive producers as executive producers, but they need to step up their game if they want this to get to Season 10.

The writers on this show are POOR. I DON'T want a Season 10, unless Season 9 Fully delivers!

I think all truly dedicated smallville fans would agree that we watched an entire season of excitment built up simply to something that seemed like a mid-season quality episode. This was by far the most careless season finale I've seen yet. There's no writer's strike or other dilemma to excuse the poor quality that we were served with tonight. This episode should have been called doomsthirtyseconds.

i just have this empty feeling after watching this season finale. i hate the whole cop out thing with jimmy, not to mention the "throwdown" with doomsday and clark. It was a throwdown indeed if you mean the lady that was thrown. maybe a second viewing i will enjoy it more but i can safely say as it stands now this season finale is the most dissappointing of all season finales. i still have faith that they can right this wrong. been watching too long to stop now :)

This was most definitely a disappointing season finale. First there was no real fight between clark and doomsday. Clark takes a few punches whilst being manhandled then some how has enough strength to superjump doomsday into the facility. How exactly is doomsday not going to survive this? Wont he just heal again and then come back? Then whatever growth Clark had this season he kinda just went away from it. He's embraceing his destiny, but leaving out what makes him Clark. Where would he even go? Then of course the ending; is that supposed to be Zod? How is it that he just appears? Like it was said above just lots more questions with no answers.

The pure horror I felt after seeing the sun rise the next day after Clark drove Doomsday into the ground, I knew I had been screwed again by a Smallville season finale. Then one of the things that made me glad that despite the fact that Jimmy learned about Clark, he was vindicated in the end. Only to be whacked in a funeral that meant nothing to me at all.

Jonathan Kents funeral had my wife checking to make sure my bag was still attached, this had me pissed. Also Lois is floating in time somewhere.

Then at the end when Clark faded, I didn't know if he was really dead, if Lois wiped out a timeline and the Clark we know faded like in Back to the Future or what.

And then the fight....

What can I say about that weak arse fight. Why even have Doomsday show up in the first place? We all waited since when the rumors started surfacing around this time next year to see what these guys would have in store for us.

And tonight I found out, and it was a big you know what up the you know where!

The quality of this episode would NEVER match even a horrible episode from a previous season.

This season finale was good (IMO), but it was definitely not what I was expecting. I thought Clark and Doomsday would've fought more and the episode was going to end with Clark d.ead. What happened to Doomsday anyway? Did the JL and Clark really kill him or just bury him alive or something?

I thought it sucked that Lois was seen only in THREE scenes! The same with Tess, only THREE scenes!

It's also really stupid how Jimmy isn't the real Jimmy. That doesn't make any sense

I have to agree with ya on these points, although I never thought they would have Doomsday kill Clark this early, not before he becomes Superman.

I also believe the fight between them would have been bigger if a season 9 hadn't been planned. Obviously they aren't going to kill off Doomsday and now they have 22 more episodes to have Clark face two of his more powerful enemies (Doomsday and Zod).

Many believed the death of Chloe would be what drove Clark to become Superman, but imo the producers of the show don't want to write off Chloe since her character has been so popular since Smallville began.

I am not sure why many think there is going to be a time jump and that it jumps to when Clark has become Superman. He will not become Superman until the series finale (maybe an episode or two before the finale) to have him wear the tights. But I dayum sure hope they don't make us wait that long for flight, geez.

I registered on this forum a long time ago but as I mentioned previously, two things pushed me to actually write today
a) Supernatural's brilliant season finale
b) Smallville's disappointing season finale

I still need time to digest the fact that this episode was the season finale, the episode where our Clark Kent fights the one and only DOOMSDAY, the episode that was meant to leave us shocked and mesmerized, wanting for more next season. The only reason I will continue to watch Smallville is because I'm a long time fan of the show. I really hope season 9 premiere makes up for this, and I don't want any sob stories, I want ACTION

couldn't have said it better. clark/titan fight MUCH better. and it still wasn't that great either.

I really didn't get the 'Finale' feel from this episode. Nothing overly epic happened. Ok so somebody died and CK "Tackled" and finished off Doomsday in about 10 seconds. Not impressed. The whole season was building up to this epic battle and Clark manages to finish it that fast? I don't think so. This episode should have had a VERY epic battle between Clark and Doomsday. A good portion of the city should have been wrecked and it should have ended with Clark being the one that was missing not Lois. I was quite disappointed with how this one panned out.

The comic book fight with doomsday and superman was truly epic..this episode was the most disappointing in all my years of watching smallville. It will take a collosal effort for the writers to win back the hearts of us long time, dedicated fans. I own all the dvd collections, this abysmal finale may have hampered my decision to get the 8th. :\

I really did think there was going to be a bigger fight with Doomsday, but I guess they're saving that battle for Superman. I'm okay with that.

It wasn't quite what I expected, but because it left me wanting more, I'd say yes. It was definitely finale quality.
