Best Season Finale of the Series?

Season 1 - Tempest -- Clark, Chloe and Pete get ready for the spring formal. Lionel closes the plant. Lex plans an employee buyout. Roger Nixon threatens to expose Clark. Whitney leaves for the Marine Corps, and Lana gets swept up in a tornado.

Season 2 - Exodus -- When Jor-El demands that Clark leave Smallville forever and fulfill his Kryptonian destiny, Clark does something drastic to fight it, with tragic consequences. Lex and Helen get married, and Lionel catches Chloe in a moment of weakness, and she agrees to investigate Clark for him.

Season 3 - Covenant --Kara comes to entice Clark to return to Jor-El. Jonathan reveals the deal he made with Jor-El. Lionel helps Clark discover Lex's room of obsession, and Lana leaves for Paris. Meanwhile, Lionel fails to make bail, but Chloe and her father are killed in an explosion.

Season 4 - Commencement -- A second meteor shower is headed for Smallville. Jor-El says that Clark must get all the Crystals. Lana may be wanted for murder. Lois is leaving to find her sister in Europe. Clark's graduation ceremony gets interrupted.

Season 5 - Vessel --Professor Fine has unleashed a computer virus that will kill millions. Clark must put a stop to him, while Lex wonders what will happen when he tells Lana his newest secret.

Season 6 - Phantom -- Lana has no choice but to leave Lex, attempting to flee Smallville. Lex seeks the Wraith's DNA for his army. Lois pursues her investigation into Lex's project and is mortally-wounded. Chloe's meteor power manifests into empathetic healing tears. With Martian Manhunter and Lionel's help, Clark finds the last Zoner after Lex apprehends the Phantom first. Unable to control it, Clark confronts the Phantom and ultimately battles a bizarre copy of himself.

Season 7 - Arctic -- Kara tells Lex he is destined to defeat the Traveler and offers to take him to the Fortress to learn how. Clark is stunned that Kara would go to Lex but it is revealed that Brainiac is impersonating Kara and she’s actually trapped in the Phantom Zone. Chloe is arrested by the Department of Domestic Security and Lana awakens from her comatose state. Meanwhile, in an epic turn of events, Clark and Lex face off in the Fortress and Lex learns Clark’s secret.

Season 8 - Doomsday - Oliver tells Clark he must kill Davis, as Doomsday is a serious threat and must be stopped at all costs. However, Clark struggles with taking a human life, so the Green Arrow and his team decide to take matters into their own hands. Lois takes on Tess, but the fight takes a shocking turn. Meanwhile, Chloe gets caught in the middle of Oliver and Clark’s battle over killing Davis. Chloe uses black kryptonite to split Davis and Doomsday up.

Then what showdown with DD?????? Combat and Bizarro had better fight scenes. I'm really disappointed. I mean this was supposed to be a blockbuster of a smackdown! Wow.. I can't believe it.

No doubt about it, Exodus is the best season finale so far. The two final episodes of Season Two and the first two episodes of Season Three maybe the best four episode stretch Smallville has ever seen.

The emotional connections for the characters were great. The storylines really grew from this point and made it a more mature series like the one you see now. And so much happened to due this finale: Martha loses the baby, Clark destroys the ship, this is the first major time he doesn't go with Jor-El's will (which costs him), and then this causes the covenant that Jonathan makes with Jor-El that ultimately causes his death in Season Five.

Not too many finales can beat the impact that Exodus had on Smallville.

Personally I found Doomsday a lot more satisfying than the past two season's finales. Sure the budget cuts limited the fight, but it was a finale that wasn't rushed for once, which was my big problem with the previous two season's finales, so I was satisfied. And while Jimmy is dead, I get the feeling that the producers lead us to believe that Jimmy's brother at the funeral is the real Jimmy Olson. Mainly cause that kid is the proper age of Jimmy in the comics, he clearly loves his brother enough to follow in his footsteps and maybe even take on his name as a nickname, and do I even have to mention the bowtie.

I love how the resolve Jimmy's death, I actually applauded to that one. Now the real Jimmy will be younger than Lois & Clark, nicely done!

I personally enjoyed it, there were parts I was less than happy with but overall it was enjoyable. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, I just think some people have a habit of instantly hating things. Remember Arctic? How many people said it was the worst episode ever and refused to watch the show again. I'm willing to bet most of you are still watching. Can we all calm our opinions a little? I realise this is the internet and everyone's opinions are EXTREME but it gets a little tiresome.

I just hate the fact that they retconned the entire Jimmy Olsen character. It's like watch someone for 3 years grow to love them and then suddenly they want us to believe he wasn't "THE ICONIC" JIMMY OLSEN"... I'm sorry but no. Aaron Ashmore will always be Jimmy Olsen to me, that kid is fine being he's little brother, but he's not Jimmy. Jimmy was on Smallville and the TPTB killed him!

I enjoyed Doomsday a lot! There were moments when I yelled “holy ****”, “oh my gosh”, “whoa”, and “wow”. I think it set up a lot of “what ifs” for next season and I like that.

What if Doomsday is not gone?

What if ZOD saves his son as Earth‘s new savior?

What if Chloe can’t reunite the League?

What if Tess and ZOD unearth Doomsday again without Clark or the League being around to save the city?

I thought they did a great job with Doomsday and it makes me super excited for the Season 9 premiere in September!

Arctic was simply a bad episode, from a bad arc and the last scenes of Lex Luthor were underwritten to say the least. As far as the actual season finale episode, I'm torn between that and Phantom. Unfortunately I didn't watch it live so I heard about the Bizarro thing and it got a little ruined for me. But had I not known that's the path they were heading on, this would have no question been my pick

I generally like all Smallville episodes - there are some that take a second viewing and others that take more, but I usually learn to appreciate them all... and that goes for finales as well.

While I do remember writing somewhere that I thought Doomsday was a better finale than last year's Arctic, I still have to go back and rewatch the finales. It's always hard for me to choose because they all seem to have something in them that is really important or especially intriguing. I think Vessel was my least favorite finale, however, and right now it's a toss up between Commencement and Doomsday for favorite. Clark's attitude at the end of Doomsday has me so anxious for season 9 though, I just might vote for it...

There is a second read on that poll. 1 got 32% of the votes. Yet, 8 to 10 got 33% of the votes. It's clearly a case of an episode that splits the audience down the middle. Also, i was surprised that Vessel and Phantom aren't higher up there.

Yes. I did expect this episode to be different, I was expecting something good (not awesome) but what I got was dissapointment. I was expecting something good because of the promises the producers told us, the hype, and well...I had expectations...but they lied to us.

I won't admit anything beause there's nothing to admit, the final scene (hell, the entire third part of the episode) was insulting, and a snore-fest.

In my opinion that is.

I'm seeing some posts here and there hate on Tempest. Why's that? For where Smallville was in its story, it was a very solid finale. I like how Arctic is pretty much last on everyone's list. I can agree with that. But if we had "Most disappointing finales" (not the same as "worst finales"), then Doomsday should take the title hands down. The build up w/ all the justice league characters implied at least some sort of huge fight. There was nothing of the sort.

Season 5 - Vessel --Professor Fine has unleashed a computer virus that will kill millions. Clark must put a stop to him, while Lex wonders what will happen when he tells Lana his newest secret.

Season 6 - Phantom -- Lana has no choice but to leave Lex, attempting to flee Smallville. Lex seeks the Wraith's DNA for his army. Lois pursues her investigation into Lex's project and is mortally-wounded. Chloe's meteor power manifests into empathetic healing tears. With Martian Manhunter and Lionel's help, Clark finds the last Zoner after Lex apprehends the Phantom first. Unable to control it, Clark confronts the Phantom and ultimately battles a bizarre copy of himself.

Season 7 - Arctic -- Kara tells Lex he is destined to defeat the Traveler and offers to take him to the Fortress to learn how. Clark is stunned that Kara would go to Lex but it is revealed that Brainiac is impersonating Kara and she’s actually trapped in the Phantom Zone. Chloe is arrested by the Department of Domestic Security and Lana awakens from her comatose state. Meanwhile, in an epic turn of events, Clark and Lex face off in the Fortress and Lex learns Clark’s secret.

Season 8 - Doomsday - Oliver tells Clark he must kill Davis, as Doomsday is a serious threat and must be stopped at all costs. However, Clark struggles with taking a human life, so the Green Arrow and his team decide to take matters into their own hands. Lois takes on Tess, but the fight takes a shocking turn. Meanwhile, Chloe gets caught in the middle of Oliver and Clark’s battle over killing Davis. Chloe uses black kryptonite to split Davis and Doomsday up.

Haven't seen Doomsday yet, so i can't choose that.

But of the other Episodes, i think I'll choose either Phantom or Arctic. ;)

S4- Commencement ;)

S4-Commencement was pretty good. :p I liked the end, and was like "where the heck is Clark?! Trapped in the middle of nowhere in the arctic!" S7-Arctic made me think "what just happend?! Where did the fortress go?! More importantly, where and what happend to Lex and Clark?!" But for some reason, it also left me feeling a bit empty, like something more should have happend. So Arctic is the worst finale to me, closely followed by Doomsday.

I have to say that Vessel is one of the worst finale's in my opinion. Just terrible. The only two parts I liked were the Chlark kiss and the Clex fight near the end. Especially listening to Lex saying how he wanted everything that Clark had.

Covenant isn't overrated at all to me. It is my favorite finale. In fact, I have enjoyed most of the finales. I didn't like Arctic (worst finale), Vessel (terrible), and Doomsday (major letdown).

Today I finally got my DVD's from Amazon! I immediately went straight for the commentaries and then for season finale. After it was first aired and the outraged that evolved after that, I can honestly say that I have had a change of heart.
I hated the season finale so much it hurted =(
But as I rewatched, I find that this episode is very different than the previous season finales. I understand completely that we as viewers and fans, wanted more action and less talk but you know what? It was pretty good, although it was highly contained, we see the disappointment in Clark's face (or is it Kal-el?) in humanity.
We see the depression that Clark suffers and how he has come to set aside all those values that the Kents gave him, maybe he's interpreting them as something bad. But they're not bad at all, having morals and values is a good thing and makes you extremely aware of what is happening in your surroundings. Still, you get to choose sometimes between what is moral and what is the right thing to do.
I cannot wait for next season and hope that we see a more mature clark like in the season finale and get to see how he learns to balance good and evil.

I don't remember this episode very well, but don't recall being very impressed except to see the end reveal and what was finally made with all the stones together. This was an extended episode right? Did it have the Superman Returns trailer premiere? - the first one?
