Question about banned members

I was just curious about banned members. What, if anything, prevents them from signing up again under a different name?

I think the mods/admins can block their IP addresses. I mean, see that little thingy in the corner of each post that says "IP: Logged"? That keeps track of people, I think.

Thanks Shirkie. I figured it had something to do with the IP address. And thanks also for the signiture correction. I can't believe I never noticed that. :)

lol but what if they use dial-up (which gives you a different IP everytime you connect) or a Anonymous proxy server?

LOL honestly mods can do very little to prevent ppls who are banned of getting back in!

Some suggestions:
resort to interrogating all new members
run a FBI background check on everyone
go to everyone's house, knock on their door and ask them if they've ever been banned before
Make the sceen flash bright colors so they get a sesiure and cant use a computer again

Seriously, I don't think it stops any of them from rejoining. I know a couple other vBulletin boards where banned members rejoin (ahem, including this one).
