I think that Tess Mercer is pretty safe now. She has to be back next season, otherwise it wouldn't make sense with this whole storyline with her, that orb and Zod.

Yeah I'm not sure how I feel about this finale. Definitely a lot of loose ends were left. I feel fairly certain that Jimmy will be back, because we all know he's around when Clark becomes Superman. I'd be willing to bet that some time travelling will be done next season that prevents his death.

What I'm really confused on is who was the "old familiar" face that was brought back and is to stick around for Season 9? How could it be Zod? We didn't see his face, and I don't believe we ever saw his real face when he last appeared in Season 5 (or 6...I forget at the moment) because he had possessed Lex. I was really hoping it would be Kara with the mentioning of Kandor. Though, with that said, I'm still hopeful Kara will be back in some capacity since Kandor was where Kara flew off to.

I'm confused about what happened to Doomsday. Clark rammed him some sort of plant and there was a big explosion. Then at the end Chloe asks Clark how he "survived" or something, which I'm confused about because nothing can hurt Clark besides kryptonite. Where the hell is Doomsday? Did he die from that explosion or is he underground somehow? So many questions... and I'm not sure every single one of them was intentional.

Apparently Bart, BC and Oliver have disappeared.... but why? And what does Zod have to do with the Orb? I thought it was made by Jor-el... how is it a vessel for him? I'm so confused right now.

Well, they did say "kind of old but also new" or something, right?
Old because we know of him and what his goals are, but new because we've never seen what Zod himself actually looks like.

As for Jimmy, I think they're leaning in the direction (and I'm not the only one, I'm sure) that Jimmy's little brother ends up as the Jimmy who finds Lois and Clark at the Planet in the future. Could be wrong though. [shrug]

You know, I was thinking about his reaction also, and it seemed fitting. That speech he gave Chloe seemed to of had precipitated not only from the aftermath of Doomsday (and everything leading up to it..), but from the little speech Lois gave Clark early on in the episode about him being 'bulletproof'.
Maybe that was just me?

And with Lois gone to who knows where, it looks as if we are going to have a season 9 opener of Clark fixing the aftermath AND finding Lois!

So query, how will they line Lois' character up with the mythology. Has she gone back in time and all of her knowledge of meeting Clark has been erased, only to end up meeting him at the DP. They are going to do something to line this up as they did with the Jimmy character. I don't expect to see Lois back until the second half of the season. they said ED would be back, they didn't say when.

That was great. Up until the final break.

Killing Jimmy and hinting that he wasn't even the real Jimmy Olsen might be the dumbest thing Smallville has ever done. There's no reason why Jimmy can't just be the same age as Clark. This isn't the comics. It's okay to do stuff differently. If that was their idea of "lining up with the comics", it was absolutely terrible.

I stick up for this show constantly, when I feel the fans are being unfair. But if the writers are checking Kryptonsite tonight, I hope they understand if that whole thing with Jimmy is meant to stick, it's the worst thing I've ever seen happen in this show. Shocking for shock value.

This was being set up for something so great. Almost a Buffy "Scooby Gang" type of thing. Jimmy knowing Clark's secret would have been awesome next year. But instead, they kill him? That's cheap and lame as all hell.

Aside from that, the ending felt hugely rushed. This should have been a two-part episode. At least show us, tease us, as to where Lois might be. Show us a little more of the Doomsday thing at the end. I understand they don't have the budget for a longer fight, but show him be "trapped" or "destroyed" or whatever they even did to him.

And hell, show us the face of Zod.

Good episode, up until the last break, then it all fell apart.

Jimmy's final scene was great. A lot of scenes were great. I have such a bad taste in my mouth though. It's just sitting terribly with me.

Okay after having to re log in FIVE fraking times, I just came to the end of this thread and will go through it tomorrow when all you comic nerds have calmed down (I'm a comic nerd too so I'm not making fun of anyone :) ).

My HD channel was black. Blank. Grumple. Had to watch it in SD.

Was there an actual budget for this episode? Lots of talking. The Clark and Lois scene leading to him calling her from the phone booth just seemed to go on way too long. And some others. It's like they didn't have much of a budget so wouldn't be able to show much of Doomsday beating the who know what out of Clark.

After watching it all once I'm not very fond of it. Which is weird because I even like the episodes that are considered crap. I think they really needed to make this a 2 hour. It seemed a bit disjointed in areas. I'm left with a feeling that I can wait for the next season to start which is a first for me.

Ok, so they are lining up with the mythology by doing the following:

we find out Jimmy is not really "Jimmy Olsen" of the mythology, that Jimmy is this Jimmy's little brother. OK this fits with JO being younger than Clark.

Clark is going off, probably will go to the FOS until he finds out about Zod and must return, as they said "he must become Superman". Will they jump ahead a few years? Well if they did that Zod would be taking over so that's questionable.

As for Lois, wow, he didn't even act like he liked her only that he wanted her to print his story. But now we know, he's no where close to being that Clark Kent with Lois Lane at the DP that we know from the mythology.

So query, how will they line Lois' character up with the mythology. Has she gone back in time and all of her knowledge of meeting Clark has been erased, only to end up meeting him at the DP. They are going to do something to line this up as they did with the Jimmy character. I don't expect to see Lois back until the second half of the season. they said ED would be back, they didn't say when.




Nothing would shock me after the way she got screwed in that finale, oh & I don't mean by Clark because it looks like that will never happen now.:\

OVERALL I thought it was one of the best finales that I have scene..there was a lot of emotion and a lot more darkness than ever before. Even CK was this completely different person than we have had in the past. I really think they should have made this into a 2 hour finale. That way it would not have felt so rushed and all the info they were throwing us could have been easier digested. I did get a little confused towards the end, but Im assuming the unanswered questions are what we will be getting answers to in Season 9. I agree that they seemed to be leaning towards using Jimmy's little brother as the DP Jimmy that we all know about. Makes sence since CK told him, the Now dead Jimmy, his secret. That and the fact they made a point to tell us that his first name was Harold and Jimmy ws his middle name. I would have liked to see a little more Clois interaction, not necessarily romantically but just more dialogue between them. The fight scene between Tess and Lois was amazing. This epi was a bit more grusome that we are used to but afterall this epi Is called "Doomsday". I can't wait to see what Season 9 has in stored for us.

Yep....ITA.....but I also agree with the other post above....probably one of the best finales I have ever seen...and the best smallville epi to date in my less than humble opinion.....but I did not get the quintessential Lois N Clark moment at all.

all in all excellent epi and I cannot wait to watch it again a few times over the weekend.

Wow. "Pretty sneaky sis." This whole time Jimmy wasn't the "real" Jimmy Olsen from the comics? While I give props to the writers for such a clever twist, I do feel like it's a bit of a deau ex machina. I'm fairly certain that when his character was first brought on that he was supposed to be the Jimmy from the Superman mythos. I feel it was definitely a plot twist that was contrived probably only recently by the writers to make Jimmy's "death" stick but also keep the show in line with the Superman mythos. I don't think we heard the little brother's name actually spoken, but I can definitely hop on board with the rest of the posters who are saying this is probably the "real" James Bartholomew Olsen.

Who was playing Zod? Sam or Michael? Was there a name in the end credits that I didn't see? I'm not sure how I feel about Zod being a character for next season. If he is, I hope it's only for the first episode or at least for a limited arc.

I really wish Kara had been the old/new/familiar face that was returning, so I kinda feel like the TV guide article got my hopes up falsely. Granted, I know it was only their guess, so I can't completely fault them. I will be upset if she doesn't at least make a few appearances since it was Kandor that she was trying to find and save when she flew of in "Bloodline."

I was confused too about Dinah, Ollie, and Bart suddenly missing. I totally didn't get that and felt like I missed something. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was confused by that.

I totally agree. If it wasn't sam it was someone with similar muscle definition in the shoulders. Michael never looked like that.

So it wasn't all bad...we did get to see an epic cat fight and Tess in silk nightgown.

I still would have liked more of a fight between clark and doomsday, or some other explanation as to what happened once clark got him to the plant. Instead we got, "She pushed the button, and uhhhhhh I don't know what happened."

So many open ends and questions..this show always does that. Usually, during the next episode you find out something "unexplained" happened and that we just shouldn't worry about the details. Lazy writing IMO. The action never seems to tell the story...that's what the melodramatic conversations are for apparently.

Once again, this show has built up my expectations slowly and deliberately over the course of the season...and then dashed them to pieces with one scene change (i.e. from the plant explosions to the dawn over metropolis).

I'm swearing off smallville for good.

Exactly! :) This was definitely a retcon for the finale. He definitely was meant to be the real Jimmy when he was introduced. It's a cheap plot device in my opinion.

Great going Ausiello.The only surprising part was the fact that Jimmy's brother is the REAL Superman's pal.Makes sense.It wasn't until Jimmy knew Clark's secret that he felt like Jimmy and not some stand-in for Chloe's love life.

Sadly that was the only surprising thing in tonight's episode.This final racks up with season seven and eight's in terms of lackluster.I was one of the few or maybe just one person who didn't buy into Ausiello's hype that Clark's battle with Doomsday was going to be a real smackdown.The only fight we have ever gotten in this series was the one in Combat.Superman's battle with his greatest nemisis was reduced to a FOTW-esque brawl.But maybe that was the point.Clark's not Superman and therfore cannot fight something so powerful.Yet Doomsday's apparent demise was pretty anti-climatic.

What a waste of bringing in Rokk,Bart and Dinah.Thank you TPTB,I hope it was worth scaling down the SFX budget.Impulse has been missing for two years now and this was best way to bring him in?

All in all.Doomsday was lackluster.PS2-PS,did phenomanal in bringing Clark back to his roots as being a hero and progressed his character in ways the AlMiles couldn't or rather wouldn't do.Brought in tons of continiuty and DC references.

Hopefully they can handle bringing in back Zod for a PROPER villian role.

Just wondering, did we actually see Davis come up from the ground? I mean, typically when you see the parent of a male character on Smallville (or at least how they looked in the past), it's the same actor. So, because of the fact that he was genetically engineered, he may have been made to look like Zod in his original form.
I really don't think it's actually Davis (unless I missed something while watching the finale, which is entirely possible), just the same actor.

Ive been watching smallville for the last 8 years. i just recently started re watching season 1-7 im on season 6 right now. it's terrible how bad this show has gotten compared to what it used to be. Now im a loyal SV Fan i have never dogged it when when my friends tease me about watching. but man season 7 started going way down hill with the whole veritas thing, i hated that. now i always thought season 4 was the worst i hated the stones, the lana witch thing it was way off. but after this season finally tonight i have to say i hated this season, it was terrible. NO direction, no budget. how many times did clark x-ray this season......NOT ONCE, how many times did he use heat vision........twice and it looked so crappy they shouldnt of had him use it. the budget it crippling Clark kent as a character. not to mention missing one of the major charcters of the show Lex luthor. I was expecting a smackdown with clark and doomsday all we got were a few punches and a jump. I hated the jimmy switch. what little brother would want to be called by his dead brothers nick name Jimmy it's horrible writing. not to mention the lois tess desk wrestling, what the hell. I hope the end it next season and do the fans who been watching a service and end it the way it should be ended...true and with dignity. Because i dont want this anymore. Tom welling i think could be the greatest Superman, I just dont think he wants to be.

They could have had at least a bit better of a fight rather than having Clark get pummeled relentlessly and then him Hulk-Jumping Doomsday into the Pit of Death. Plus with him at the end denouncing his Human side I full expected him to pull a Neo when he left the Watchtower and fly off.
