Gahhhh !!!
Someone please, I've seen all the episodes but I can't keep straight all the different Krytonian clutter that shows up. Where did this clear crystal come from that was in the barn and what is it's purpose, where did it come from ( wasn't the original crystal destoyed one of the times the Fortress was compromised):confused:? Then there's a black crystal we saw last week and the orb and the hexagonal disc Chloe scrounged up. What other crystal and pendants and bric a brac is out there I should know about? Anyone?

:rotfl: I LOVE that you can have a sense of humor about all this 'crystal/Kryptonian paraphernalia', etc. But hey!, me, too ...
This is going to be Looong, but since we're the only ones discussing this, it shouldn't be such 'overkill' on Long-windedness. We can have a lot of fun with This topic. :rotfl: Or maybe you can view this as a Smallville Short Story I'm sharing with you based on my knowledge of Smallville's 'Artifacts'. I'm sure it'll be added to and/or contradicted by any others who decide to respond to your thread and participate.
Let's begin...
In Season 4, when all the Crystals and their 'story arc' began, yes, we already had the Octagonal Disc. It was first seen on Lex's desk at the Luthor mansion. When Clark asked him about it, he lied to him and said it was a paperweight keepsake or something like that. Clark went home and described it to his parents. My memory is too vague about the Key's first appearance, so I'll have to review Season's 1 and 2 to get the correct information. In the Season 1 Finale, the Key had been inserted into Clark's spaceship's hull, but it became dislodged during the tornado when it was swept up into the "Vortex". It was later recovered by 'one' of the Luthors.
Nevertheless, when Clark finally had it in his possession again, he was able to use it to place in an octagonally-shaped indentation on the Kawache cave wall and Kryptonian symbols appeared. It was the method used in downloading the Kryptonian symbols and their meaning into Clark's brain. Once, Lionel Luthor tried to use it in its 'slot' in the cave wall, for his own selfish purposes, and Jonathan Kent interrupted him. They fought and while they fought, the Key independently FLEW into the cave wall and vanished. The slot also disappeared, but the Key was mysteriously found to be in Virgil Swann's possession. I'd like TPTB to clear That mystery up one day.
It's also the 'Key' for the 'Portal' to the Fortress of Solitude that's located inside a special chamber in the Kawache caves. The 'Key' was able to open Clark's spaceship and gave him access to it before he destroyed the ship in the Finale episode of Season 2, "Exodus". Since the 'original' Key had been lost or misplaced, Clark stole a 'copy' of the Key Lionel had made from Kryptonite and inserted it into the ship. Clark had deduced that since Kryptonite was deadly to him, it might also be deadly to his ship. He'd been correct and the K-fake Key successfully destroyed Clark's spaceship. Apparently, Virgil Swann had made 'arrangements' that in the event of his death, Clark would receive the Real Key again by special delivery messenger accompanied by a 'farewell note' from Swann.
Bear with me here, because I want to go back to the "Crystals of Knowledge" that Clark had to Find/Recover and Assemble together inside a specially designed, (by Jor-El), 'slot' that's on an 'Octagon-shaped stone table' in the 'special chamber' that's in the Kawache cave, which was the main 'themed' storyline that made up the entire 4th Season. When these 'crystals', that had been on Earth for hundreds of years (I'd like That explained, too), were assembled together by Clark, they formed a single, huge crystal shaped like the Superman crest/symbol.
I'm one of those fans who actually enjoyed Season 4 and the 'crystals' story arc. The only thing that puzzled me a 'tiny' bit, was that the first crystal that Lex had found buried somewhere in Egypt, and Clark flew for the first and last time, so far, to retrieve it from Lex's flying jet when it was revealed to Clark by its 'ringing siren call', is that it was the only one that was 'crystal Clear' in appearance. The symbol etched on it was the Kryptonian symbol for 'Fire'.
The second 'crystal' that Clark located was discovered behind a stone wall inside an 'ancient' Chinese temple, and it had been hidden there, undisturbed, for centuries along with some Kryptonite to 'guard' it from untrustworthy Kryptonians (my personal deduction), although it was later stolen and hidden from him by 'a dead witch who possessed Lana during all of season 4', and not recovered again until Lana gave it to him for reasons she was unsure about (after she had murdered Genevieve Teague in self-defense with it), in the episode "Commencement", which was the Season 4 Finale. That 'crystal' appeared to be a shiny, solid, silver-colored metallic object. The symbol etched on it resembled the 'Superman' symbol as well as the symbol for the House of El, and it's also the symbol for 'Air'.
Then the third 'crystal' was found by one of Lionel Luthor's archeological teams he had searching the globe for the crystals, and it was found in South America somewhere in the Amazon Jungle. It was prominently featured in the 4th season episode "Transference", and that was its 'power'. Lionel was in prison at the time and had arranged for the crystal to be delivered to him and also arranged for his cell mate to be a scientist who specialized in decoding ancient symbols. He was supposedly trying to find something in them that would heal his Incurable Liver Disease. The symbol etched on that crystal was identical to the "immaculate tattoo" that mysteriously appeared on Lana's back in the Season 4 opening episode, "Crusade", and it was the symbol for 'Water'. That 'crystal' was solid black in appearance.
In "Commencement", Lionel, who was visiting at the Luthor mansion in Smallville, having tried to deceive Lex about his knowledge of the crystals, was stricken into a strange coma while the 'crystal' was on his person when it began ringing its 'siren song' for Clark as he placed the 2nd crystal into place in the Kawache cave. Lex saw it glowing in his dad's pocket and removed it only to be thrown across the room and knocked unconscious when he touched it, then later had it placed in his vault (somehow) where Clark found it, but Lex's vault was also protected by Kryptonite inside. Clark was overcome by the Kryptonite and passed out on the floor. Chloe miraculously found Clark and struggled to pull him out of the vault where he suddenly became conscious again and supersped away.
When Clark put the final crystal in place beside the other two like a piece of a puzzle, they all melded together and turned uniformly 'crystal' CLEAR in appearance forming a Huge, Single crystal. When Clark grasped the crystal, which once assembled began to float in the air above the stone table, he was transported to the arctic north. Naturally, Chloe had followed him there and was sucked along with him. Upon Clark's arrival, he surveyed his surroundings and instinctively threw the crystal a great distance from him (just as Christopher Reeve did in the 1st Superman movie with his 'green', tubular-shaped crystal).
In the 5th Season Opener, the last scene of season 4 Resumed, and we got to see the Crystal land in the ice and snow. Clark was a speck on the horizon and watched while the Crystal started building his Fortress of Solitude 'automatically'. Each crystal had been embedded with a storehouse of Kryptonian knowledge, so the 'FoS' would be a source of Galactic Knowledge for Clark to access as well as a Refuge when he needed it to be. Now, I don't pretend to understand any of the alien technology, Smallville style, behind the Crystals, what they each meant or whatever, and how they had been on Earth for centuries. Though, I think that in the movie, "Superman Returns", Lex Luthor, the 'genius', explained Kryptonian Crystal Technology. The 'crystals' begin as Programmable Seeds of energy that only need water to grow into whatever they're programmed to become. Obviously, the outcome of what's "grown" depends directly on the 'size' of the Seed used. It's all Alien or TV 'techno babble' to me.
Anyway, that covers the Crystals and the Octagonal Key, but we've still got the Kawache Bracelet, gifted to Clark by the Tribe, so to speak, for him to give to his 'True One' or his 'soulmate', and they haven't mentioned it since it was introduced in Season 2. I guess we'll only hear of it or see it again if they decide to explore Clark's personal 'loneliness' and his desire for a Soulmate. TPTB burned the Bridge for romantic hope between him and Lana with Kryptonite fire. Since then, what had begun between Clark and Lois during the first half of Season 8, they have approached with cautious reluctance. Development of a romance between them is on hold, as far as we know, until a 'proper' amount of time has passed for him to get over Lana. Especially since Lois Lane should NEVER be seen as his 'rebound'.
Of course, we also have the 'Pink Orb' that was introduced in Season 7's "Quest" and lost in the Finale, "Arctic" when the FoS collapsed on top of both Clark and Lex when it was activated. I was Completely Confused about what it actually was until Thursday's airing of "Injustice". We got some clues. :)
Virgil Swann and the other three members of The Veritas Group believed 'it' was a 'device' that was meant to Control The Traveler if he proved to be a Threat to mankind. Clark deduced that it was a device to 'take away his powers/abilities' and leave him more human thereby removing him as an alien threat. However, in "Injustice" it appears that it could be a communication device being used by some 'other' Kryptonians to communicate and/or manipulate Tess Mercer since it's in her possession. OR, ...my own little theory, it's the miniaturized Kryptonian City of Kandor. In the last scene, the voice from the Orb bestowed Tess with the 'Title' of "The Savior of Kandor".
There are some who believe that Tess is being manipulated into helping to cause events that would turn Earth into a 'New Krypton'. It's leader's name is represented by a Z, which could stand for 'Zod', except it isn't the same symbol as was used before for 'Zod'. It could also represent 'Zor-El'. We'll just have to wait and learn more in the Finale, hopefully. That "civilization of a whole world" she spoke about is the population of Kandor housed inside the 'little Orb', IMO.
One thing that bugged me about the FoS Crystal this season was that it had the 'right shape', but it was 'the wrong color' being Blue instead of crystal Clear like the original. I thought that it meant that the Crystal had been 'changed' in some diabolical way. After everything that's happened this season, the conclusion is still inconclusive on my part. :\
You or others may notice that I didn't even attempt to discuss or bring up the Kryptonian necklace that Jor-El wore while he was visiting Earth back in the 1960s in the episode "Relic" from Season 3; Or the SOS Kryptonian 'Shield' that belonged to the Kryptonian scientist who came to Earth over 100 years ago and left it behind in Smallville as seen in the Season 7 episode "Persona". I'd like for someone else to elaborate on those, please. I hope that Filled You In some, 'nabadua'.
OK, Now, it's someone else's turn....

Basically they are recycling props from past seasons because they can't afford new ones.

You definitely know your stuff and I don't blame you for cutting it short ( so to speak ) but I'm still unclear on the black crystal that opened the phantom zone and where, how the clear crystal in the barn showed up.
If you catch a breather and want to elaborate on those I would appreciate it too!
Thanks!
