The fingerprint scanner in the iPhone is a steal from the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. 'Q' issues Bond with a Nokia Communicator that contains a fingerprint scanner, fifty-thousand volt security system and the remote control for his BMW 750i. Later in the film, Bond opens henchman Henry Gupta's safe by using the phone to "lift" his fingerprint from the sensor plate, then create a copy on the phone's screen to trigger the lock.

I must say that Bond was the original gadget cool guy. He got to play with all the fun toys.

When I saw that "Hi Tech" tracking device. I knew right away it was a freakin' PSP!
I don't know if they meant it to a super fancy smancy device or just a hacked PSP, nut props Clark. Maybe cause it was the first PSP they thought we wouldn't notice. They should've used a Gameboy Color then.
As a PSP hacker myself its was cool to see. I have Nintendo, Gameboy, Genesis, NeoGeo CD games and more on mine. Plus I pimped it with a blue casing and custom buttons.
Maybe I'll take a pic of it.

It just reminded me of just how epicly horrible the budget truly is. I think pretty soon we all might need to start doing charity events so that this show can afford new props.

I don't think it needs the GPS accessory to be used as it was used here( and on top of that it didn't even have it). They could have just made a program that received info from some computer through the internet ( Perhaps Metropolis has Wifi all over).

Clark used a PSP because Sony paid CW to have them use it. It's called product placement. You know just like Hero was basically a commercial for Stride gum?
And that goes for the cars and trucks that Clark, Chloe, etc drives.

Lol, I laughed when Clark had a PSP with him. Cause ya know, when you're trying to find a mass-murderer, you first go to your PSP for all your GPS needs!

maybe the psp belongs to emil, so that's where clark got it from. The last time clark had anything relatively expensive was in Red, when he stole ma and pa kent's credit cards :-D

well im sure ollie got psps and upgraded them. plus its not thathard to believe that psps could be used as high tech things. all tech things we use now adays the government was using like 20 years ago. when they upgrade there products there is no use for old ones so all there old information is just used by tech manufactionars. like computers. the governement has been using computers for like 60/70 years when most of us have only started knowing about computers for the past 15/20.
the one thing im confused tho is how did ollie get a 3 point match on the finger print and have it work? ive watched enogh law and order to know an exact match needs like an 8 point match or something.

LoL... I guess I was on the right track. I thought Clark was using a SideKick - but PSP, that's funny. I guess Clark can save the world and play GTA/Max Payne on slow news day, too! :p
...No seriously, I want a gadget that can do all of that stuff. I can barely log onto the internet on my phone- I'm lucky if I can pick up a wireless connection with it.

The iPhone part I didn't really mind when Oliver used it... but I laughed so hard during the scene when Clark confronts Bette and then takes out his tracking device... which turns out to be a Sony PSP. Wow!

I understand product placement obviously but I don't think this is a simple case of product placement. I think the budget is so bad that they had money for real props. Which is also why all the old season 7 and below props keep being recycled.

LoL... While the lack of budget does break my heart a little (Smallville deserves the best, after all), we are long past the days when the majority of what we see now (even if isn't on the caliber of say, Transformers) couldn't have been done before.
Looking back at all the past Superman "stuff" out there, (and I admit I haven't seen it all), our show is quite advanced... I'm just glad we don't see strings, à la Superman 4, I believe, when we saw Superman fighting RadioActive Man (or whatever his name is) on the moon - oh yes, there were strings...

He's not a farm boy anymore.... Clark Kent's grown up... He's a mild mannered reporter now.
Anyone know where I can get a PSP that cool? LOL.

I didn't really have a problem with the iPhone being used. At least they covered it up by buying a case for it but the PSP was just to badly place for me. I would have rather seen Clark pull out the iPod or something else again.
