does anyone else think it's somewhat symbolic that both Stiletto and beast ended with Clark talking to someone on the phone? And that with Stiletto, it showed Clark and Lois growing closer to each other, especially from Clark's end, with him smiling and being smitten after he hung up the phone, yet with Beast, it showed Clark and Chloe's friendship breaking apart, with it ending on a sad/angsty note?

I would like to get the "first and better" people's opinion on this myself :)

I felt it was an interesting comparison as well about the two girls.

Lois: Often accused of being very selfish and self involved, just wants to know what the hero needs and is happy just offering to be his friend, not even requesting a story out of it. Very sweet and not a bit selfish.

Chloe: Clouted as selfless, isn't satisfied just throwing little pieces of green rocks away, she has to SAVE the hero, ignoring what he says are his wants and his needs. She feels the need to be more then just a friend, she has to be the special one. Rather selfish if you ask me.

Lois and RBB became closer. Clark may have became closer to Lois but she thought she was talking to RBB.

I don't think Clark and Chloe hurt their friendship, if anything it's the same or stronger. Clark showed his emotion for Chloe and their friendship and I feel they are still just as close.

Thomas, excellent observation. I've noticed in the last few episodes that Clark is grower much closer to Lois and definitely growing further apart from Chloe. I do find it interesting that Clark is happy at the end of Stiletto after he hangs up the phone with a glowing light on his face, while at the end of Beast he is frustrated and enraged that Chloe has betrayed his trust and run off with Doomsday.

It's an interesting comparison. We all know that Lois Lane is the person who Superman is closest to in the mythos and who he confides in and trusts with his inner most thoughts.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the finale and especially going into S9 to see how this dynamic changes.

but shouldn't Chloe know better then most on the guilt trips that Clark can take from these kind of situations? She should also know better then most on how complicated Clark's life is already and the stuff that he has to deal with emotionally, and given the fact that she knows probably on how much it broke Clark's heart to lose Lana the way he did, she must know as well on how much it would hurt him to lose her (Chloe) like that, especially when she says that she's doing it for him.

If she had said that she's doing this for Davis and herself instead, then it wouldn't have probably hurt Clark as much. Chloe in my opinion is the one distancing herself farther and farther away from Clark, to the point where he may not be able to rescue her any more.
