Smallville has had this problem for years:
"Clark, you can't just go in there!"
"I don't have a choice Chloe!"
"It's too dangerous Clark!"
"Chloe, people are dead because of me!"
"What about me, Clark?"
"Lana, what are you doing here?"
"I came to help you, Clark."
"But Lana I thought you dead,"
"No, Chloe, I'm alive..."
You get the point. They address each other by name CONSTANTLY. It's surprising, because dialogue 101 tells you not to do this. But last night was particularly painful to watch, because it happened in abundance. At one point, Clark said
"Chloe you can't... You can't, Chloe..."
Just venting, I suppose, but it's kind of funny. I wonder if its an inside joke at the show...

That's how I talk in real life most of the time. Though I don't call people by now as much as they do in Smallville.

I noticed this too. They must have said "Chloe" like 100 times.

I noticed this too. It reminded me of another movie I watched, Shadow of a Doubt. They say "Uncle Charlie" at least 60 times in that film.

The counter and dings!
Sometimes I call my husband by his name, sometimes "sweetie" or "honey", and sometimes "hey" or "hey you know what". I talk to others in similar ways. I don't keep saying people's names or endearments throughout the course of a conversation.
Perhaps this is a way for the writers to kill time because they don't know how to write better dialogue. Just pad it so the show can be 42 minutes long. :)

I noticed that, too! But that sad thing is, I'm so used to it that I end up doing the same exact thing when I write Smallville fanfics. They say each other's names A LOT! lol

Ahhaha
It's so true. I don't know anybody in real life who says the name of the person they're talking to that much. It's like they're worried we're gonna forget who they're talking to.

They sound like school teachers speaking to students.

Heh, true, that! It IS funny that they say each other's names so incredibly often, but we probably should just be glad that they don't use each other's FULL names constantly. Anybody ever watch "Anne of Green Gables?" They're always doing that on that movie, and it's a cool movie, but the name thing does get a little silly after a while.

it`s not just names, it`s phrases like "What are you doing here" or smth else...I saw a funny Clois vid where were all such phrases and names combined- it was really funny to watch...

yeah i notice- they also have a horrible habit of stating the obvious
Something I hate is that Clark talks to himself: and says - "Chloe"! Or Lana, when he seem them in trouble. Like in this episode, when Clark heard that Davis was trying to kill Oliver, Clark said "Oliver"! What's up with that? Stop wasting time, and save him, man!
