Was that him? I was trying to make out who that was & had a feeling it was him but was hoping our hero wouldn't ever be seen like that. He looked like a wall decoration from the Doom games.
If it wasnt him they probably wouldnt've had to make it a nightmare sequence.

That have to be the most groe I seen on this show. It showed Clark being cut in half was'nt expecting that. You know how hard it would be to cut Clark in half? His skin hardly ever gets. It would take alot of work to do that to Clark then agin it was a dream.

They should have stayed longer on that shot (or at least his face), because it wasn't entirely clear who it was. I'm thinking some people were like "who the hell was that?!" I recognized Clark during the last millisecond of the shot.

there was an s on his chest?!?! is there a still of that scene!?!?
I'm a horror movie buff and I didn't like it. It was way too gruesome for the series and especially for Clark Kent. It disturbed me in a not so good way. :\

there was an s on his chest?!?! is there a still of that scene!?!?
Yes. There was a bloody "S" on his chest. It was morbidly reminiscent of the pilot episode in season 1.
xrayvision
04-30-2009, 08:12 PM
I always wondered if they would have an episode where Clark lost a limb and had to get it reattached in the Fortress. I expected something like that when he came back from the Phantom Zone in Zod. I could just imagine Clark with a hook hand like Aquaman in the comics.
Lexsghost
04-30-2009, 08:13 PM
It was a season 1 revisit or something with the S on the chest.
That'llShowEm
04-30-2009, 08:14 PM
I think I may have nightmares from this nightmare... whoa... the "S" on the chest was a big give away for me, and I didn't need to see anymore. Matter of fact, as soon as I saw it, I glanced away, and my eyes happened to land on the cover of my Season One box... *shivers*
Oh man, that was freaky.Definitely something you would see on Supernatural. It was very gruesome and gory.I sure never expected to see that.Especially with the red S on his chest and scarecrow version from the pilot. But it sure opened Chloe's eyes to what Davis could do.

Supernatural kicked ass tonight. Even though SV had the most messed up scene, Supernatural was something else, especially with Sam getting his fix on a demon as he tried to kill it. So many unpredictable twists & turns. It would be awesome if Kripke gained control of Smallville too.

It was disturbing, but it showed Chloe's nightmare. Even though she is attracted to Davis, she won't let it get in the way of protecting Clark. I liked it, disturbing though it was. It's really gruesome, and I can't look for long, but the fast shot was good enough.
Though, I do wonder why he has the S on his chest. It even has a diamond around it. Why would Chloe dream that? Interesting choice. I guess she knows it's the El symbol, and knows Doomsday might take the Krypton heritage a little far...
This does NOT count as putting the S on you chest though, Tom..

Yeah, the only reason I said Smallville was creepier was because that was unexpected. Sam's entire arc has been creepy this season.
I WOULD LOVE for Eric to get his hands on Smallville.... the things he could do to make our hero darker.... he'd make Christopher Nolan's Batman look like buckets of sunshine!

The only reason I knew it was Clark was the blood smeared in the shape of an S on his chest. I didn't notice he was ripped in half until the second time I watched the episode. They should have made the shot last longer, so you would know who it was, but they probably didn't want the extreme gruesomeness to last long. That was just gross. That was great. It's not because I don't like Clark or something, not at all. It was just a very daring scene and it takes Smallville to a new darker level and I like that. Obviously it won't happen, but it showed Chloe's fears and she should be. Also the 'S' was a nice reference, though I don't think Davis would play around with the body to put an 'S' written in blood on it lol.

Ok, I admit, I shrieked a little bit. IMO it was a really cool effect and plot-wise it shows how the dream turns into a nightmare for Chloe - yes she has feelings for Davis and likes that part of the dream, but when confronted by his true nature and purpose, she wakes up saying "NOOOOO!" because she is on Clark's side. I think.
Anyways, I've never watched Supernatural (I know, what's wrong with me?) but to see that on SV was just

Awsome scene. I yelled at Chloe "Don't touch it, stupid!" before I knew what it was.
I love the call back to the pilot. It was obviously supposed to be Clark in the field, and it adds to the whole "Clark is (*like*) Jesus" thing they have going this season.
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/6286/clarktophalf.jpg
I don't think it was a manip at all. To me it looks like a classic practical effect. That's what i see when i look at stuff like this. I see the how they did it part especialy in horror movies. I don't get grossed out easily. It's an "actual" torso mounted to the wall. It has no head on it. Tom is laying down or on his knees behind it and above it. When the camera rolls all he had to do was put his neck in the slot at the top and it makes for a good looking effect. If you look closely at Clarks neck you can see the line that seperates Tom from the fake torso. in fact you might notice he doesn't realy have a neck in the shot. That comes from the thickness of the prop. He has to physicaly be behind it. It's actualy a technique as old as television itself....well.......almost that old.
SnowBird
05-01-2009, 09:48 AM
Gruesome...That was definately a nightmare with Chloe's worst fear where Clark will be killed by Doomsay. Unexpected and unnecessary for Smallville to show so much blood and guts.

I am not taking that bet. Doomsday could tear Clark a new one, especially this Clark. It will take Superman everything he has to take out Doomsday.
Then of course Doomsday pops up all the more powerful again.

I wonder why Chloe would see Season one-scarecrow-Clark hanging there when she wasn't even in that cornfield in the Pilot.

05-01-2009, 11:08 AM
Or didn't I see it right? It looked to me like Clark's upper body had the same "S" on his body as when he was the scarecrow in the Pilot. It didn't look exactly the same, there was more blood and the 'S' was differently shaped. It was just a reference to the 'S' of Superman's chest, just as the sign on his chest is when he's scarred by Jor-El or when he was hanging in the cornfield, but they are all not connected to each other.

I had to pause it and didn't realize it was CK until I saw the S. This is the kind of thing that prevents me from watching Supernatural. Too gruesome for our hero and the 8PM time slot IMO -- maybe that's why the shot was so short. Although I have to admit it was effective!

I thought I recognized Clark, but it was so quick. It was shocking. My jaw dropped and I could not believe what I was seeing. It blew my mind.
Thank goodness I had it recorded. I was able to go back immediatly.

Doomsday must've been hungry. Clark looks like a victim of a shark attack!

I thought it was an awesome shot! But then again I have a serious morbid streak, and that was pretty tame compared to a lot of what I watch. It just made the threat of Doomsday seem more real somehow.
I was sort of laughing at the S, going "Chloe has a new power and it's precognitive dreaming!"

Gruesome, unnecessary cheap trick. Every Z movie can pull something like that. Ugh.

I was really surprised to see such a gruesome scene on smallville. maybe the directors felt they had to go edgier and show something unexpected. I mean, I have seen a billion fangoria scenes, but never thought i would see one on smallville.

well(the new) tptb along with the CW network are trying to hold the ratings. The show started with sex, blood and murder. At first I thought they were doing it for the teens but now I realize they are just doing it to do it. They may just do everything anything we would of never thought we see on SV. I guest a nudity is next.lol

Whenever they show a little skin on that show, people are like: "This is a scandal!! Our children are watching!!" But showing the hero of the show, a character that kids love btw, ripped in half, and everyone thinks it's the coolest thing in the world.
If they want their already flailing ratings to hold, I don't think it's the right way to go.

They should have stayed longer on that shot (or at least his face), because it wasn't entirely clear who it was. I'm thinking some people were like "who the hell was that?!" I recognized Clark during the last millisecond of the shot.
Okay, I'll go one step further. I didn't realize it was Clark until I logged into these message boards. Now I'm gonna have to go back - how sad to think off Clark bloodied and ripped in two... TOO gory for our hero for sure, but talk about hitting Chloe where it hurts!

It was much too gory for me...
Not only do I actually think it was more of a shocking image that anything i've seen in Supernatural, but it felt even worse because it was so out of place...
This is a SUPERMAN show... It's just too much IMO
However, in terms of the construction of that scene, it was brilliance... it's just Smallville is not a horror movie... it's a teen fantasy drama...

i've seen way worse and i'm sure most viewers have as well. unexpected? a bit, but that doesn't mean i didn't love it. i think it got across how cruel and brutal Doomsday is. of course chloe didn't get this point =/

Can I just say that not only did he have the S like in the scarecrow scene in the pilot, but that the S was within a shield very similar to Superman's. The only difference is that the shield was not closed because it was obviously supposed to have been finger painted in blood. Chloe has seen the Superman shield before from Kara, and from the original PZ crystal, but this is the first time Clark has worn it in the show.

I had been reading the Live thread so I knew it was coming but I was still shocked by it! I thought it was awesome but maybe I'm sadistic like that :D. I just thought it highlighted how dark S8 (and hopefully S9) is and, like ^superman07 said, the brutality of Doomy. It was a little out of place considering this is SV but I thought it showed that the show, along with the characters and audience are maturing, which was a step in the right direction for me ;).

ITA, when I saw Chloe in the nightmare, I was expected something awful, so I closed my eyes (a little:D)and it was not enought, so I saw this horrible thing on my screen. Unecessary and not "SV" at all, very shocking

To be fair, I don't think the people who are upset over seeing a little skin are the same people who liked the bloody torso shot.
