I say the chat Clark and Lois had together on the phone.
It was Superman like to me.
When he said "When I reveal my secret you'll be the first to know"

O.k., I'm still new here, and I'm at work, so I don't have time to read all the posts, but since I didn't see a thread addressing this specifcally...
Am I the only one that jumped up and applauded when Lois said this? Anyone rememeber the flying test drive scene in Superman 1 just after Lois was falling and Superman caught her? Anyone? Bueller?

I remember. I wonder why they have never addressed it on Smallville before. I think it would be great if they did.

You bet I noticed that! I jumped out of my seat at that! References to Chris and the movie franchise are awesome.
And as a side note when Clark was using the voice scrambler talking to Lois on the phone, he was calling her "Miss Lane" much of the time. I couldn't help but think of the 1950s George Reeves "Adventures of Superman" (I have them all on DVD). Supes always called Lois "Miss Lane" (except the dream ep where Lois marries Superman).

His voice was sexy during the call.

Lois reminded me more of THLois in this episode. Like, she is concerned the RBB is lonely and needs a shoulder to lean on. So cute. But the Supe I reference was very cute.
Yes! I noticed all the references and they were pretty cool to hear from this modern Lane-Kent duo!

Yea, I really loved this episode Stiletto but what made my day was the end phone call between Clark (Red Blue Blurr) and Lois. :)

every episode has superman shout outs, its getting rather annoying because we get it we all know he is going to be superman even though its getting harder and harder to believe.

I never get tired of them.
Honestly? I sometimes do. I don't mind one here and there, but when they're chucking them by the freighter... it gets a little old for me.

The red envelope with the blue message.
The telephone booth.

How is Clark going to pull off his disguise? If he needs a voice changer to TALK to lois.. How trick her with a look?!
I think Lois has to know. She can help with the costume, I don't really care. The mythos has been altered. I'm not saying that bitterly, I'm stating fact. The only way this works is if Lois knows his secret.

I thought the perfect ending for the episode would have had Clark shooting straight up into the air.

not to mention Lois stated that the RBB was a mouthful and Clark replying that if anyone is going to come up with a new name for him it will be her.

Totally agree. The only thing that "Superman: the movie" reference did was save this crappy episode. It is worth to watch only to enjoy the last conversation between Clark and Lois. So, I agree. They could have left that reference for a future episode, you know, the recycled idea of the alternate world, where Clark can fly or whatever and Lois knows, and then at the end it is a dream, or a magic illusion, or another way to time travel fixes everything...oh, oh, better yet, memory wipe kiss.

Yes, definitely! :D
And I really love how naturally Erica said it too! I squealed in recognition, then had to jump around abit in glee/delight.
Only thing lacking in that phonebooth scene was the actual Lois soundtrack from the movie. :D

I know! It was so amazing, I was screaming! At first I didn't get that they did it on purpose, 'cause I'm kind of stupid that way. I was like, "Huh. That was a famous line in Superman." And then I was like, "...OH!". And the "Miss Lane" really made me day :-)

i'm hard to impress this season, but that ode to Superman the movie was performed well. cheers Erica. By the way when will they develop Clark's ability to read minds? It's long over do.

04-25-2009, 03:30 PM
That's exactly what I was thinking when she said that. Can you read my mind. It's funny how they address things from the movies on Smallville LOL
The "Miss Lane" was friggin' amazing! I was literally like "OH MY GOD!!!!" and then was just smiling. I love when Superman calls Lois that. :o :D

I think this episode had the perfect amount of nods to the future. I think it was a treat to those who really paid attention to the Supes movies, just like "Legion" had special stuff for people who read the comics.
I love it when the writers include these hints. Sure, everybody knows that one day Clark will some day be Superman --- it's nice to know that the show runners/writers know it too.

I meant to write this sooner, but did anybody else really like how Clark kept calling Lois "Miss Lane" on the phone? Very nice touch, considering that's what Superman always calls her.

Yeah, awesome!
Clark is never that formal. Lois will never suspect.
If he'd have said "this is all my fault" then he would've really been in trouble.

I thought it was so cute and it was nice touch to the Superman/Lois history.

I guess its part of his Blur persona, being so formal and polite, but a lovely little touch nonetheless. He looked so taken aback when Lois offered to just be his friend, and then was so delighted to tell her that she would be the first one to know his secret. That whole scene was iconic :D
Are you kidding me? I went nuts over that! I've been calling those two last scene my favorite scenes of the entire series. They blew me away. NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS did I expect to see Tom Welling as Clark Kent call Erica Durance as Lois Lane, "Miss Lane" NEVER!! It was so Superman like it chilled me and amazed me at the same time. :o

That was the best part of that scene!! I thought it was funny..the first time he said it he was a little hesitant and then when he said it again, it was so natural. And you could tell by the sweet expression on his face that he really liked it.
:D That made my entire year!

I posted it on another thread, but you bet it was cool. Whereas it didn't take Chris long to refer to Margot as "Lois," "....I like pink very much, Lois..." George Reeves (1950s Supes) always called Lois "Miss Lane" except in the fantasy sequence where Lois imagined Superman proposed to her. Very much in tune with the mythos, liked it much :)
