Fordman is from the comic books

I was really surprised to find out that the Fordman family from Smallville actually exists in the comic books too. I discovered this almost by accident. I had been looking on Ebay for some Smallville comics (based on the show) and my search results included something called "The World of Smallville" (which is actually a mini series written back in the 80s). They were cheap enough so I just bought them. To my surprise, there's a story included about Martha and how she dated Mr. Fordman before marrying Jonathan. Mr. Fordman owned a department store (just like in the show) and I guess the reason he never married Martha was that he went off to war (like Whitney did). I thought the Fordman family was an invention of the Smallville TV show. I guess now I know it isn't.
