Has anyone read it? I'm surprise theres no thread.

Stephenie Meyer recommended on her site. And I really enjoyed the book.
Can't wait for the next one to be released!:D

The Hunger Games was awesome because of the reality tv angle, which Collins played out to it's fullest effect. However if you want to read a book on the realities of kids killing each other in an arena read Battle Royale by Koushun Takami.

Ive read the first book and its not bad. Although it is a bit of a ripoff of Battle Royale, the characters are well rounded and mostly likable. The book is structured fairly well although a little too much time is spent outside the battle at the beginning.

Was the large amount of time spent on what the characters were wearing relevant? It reminded me a little bit of the time spent describing the construction of a sword in the Eragon series.

Some of the characters i found most interesting like the coach didn't get much "screentime". Hopefully he is included more in the second book which i would be interested in reading.

Ive been struggling to find books i like recently and this one held my attention. Fairly decent offering.

The last book of the series, Mockingjay, came out in August. I bought it but haven't gotten around to reading much of it yet. The beginning was depressing

You read it cuz Stephenie suggested it?..

I've just finished Hunger Games and am starting the second book in the morning. I started reading them due to the media frenzy over who'd get cast in a movie and since my friends and I take bets on it. I had to read them to start writing my list. But I love it so far, and am happily picking them up when I'm done.

Alright guys I'm bumping this thread. Let's get excited ( or not) for the casting of hunger games. I've heard good things about Jennifer Lawrence as katniss and josh hutcherson as peeta. They just announced woody harrelson as haymitch. I can see him playing drunk what do you guys think. Who would be your dream cast.

No Hunger Game panel at comic con this year. They are in the middle of filming apparently because they are dong give-a-aways on the floor and you can win a visit to the set.

Thanks for bumping!

I'm excited so far for all of the casting choices except Peeta. I haven't really seen anything Josh Hutcherson has been in but he's not the Peeta I pictured in my head. And Peeta was my favorite character. :(
I hope there's good chemistry between Jennifer and Josh. (Peeta, Katniss fan :))

I would've never thought of Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, but it does seem like the perfect choice. I also love that they cast Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, that's almost exactly how I pictured Cinna.

Donald Sutherland as President Snow= genius casting.

I like Donald sutherland as president snow as well. I read hunger game after the casting was announced but I still don't see Lenny kravitz as cinna. I'm on the fence with Liam Hemsworth. He doesn't look like Gale to me, but he's got the right personality and mannerisms. I think Woody Harrelson is perfect for Haymitch. It's basically like his character from Zombieland.

I finally finished the last book. I should've just reread the whole thing, because now I'm confused. I didn't like how abruptly it seemed to end. :/
And the epilogue while nice didn't explain what became of Gale, and Haymitch (who just disappeared?)
And what about Peeta still having those false memories? Just wish that was explained.

Okay, so I've managed to finish both The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, and am about... close to halfway through Mockingjay yes, I am a fast reader). I am LOVING this series. I'm still floored by the fact that I enjoy it as much as I do, because the concept isn't the sort of thing I would typically think I'd be into. However, the characterization is superb (I LOVE Katniss, Peeta, Gale, Prim, and so many other memorable characters), the pacing is excellent, the action and suspense are both top-notch, and I'm always left literally HUNGERING for more of this magnificent series. :D

Oh man, only now I found you here guys, well, thats wht happened when you only focus in post in SV forum area, lol.

I love The Hunger Games triology, I read them 2 years ago. But since last year with the movie and trailer, I just can't wait, I read again and again. Many characters are in my heart, but I think beyond them there are Peeta and Finnick (:( :( :( <3). I really heart them. Honestly I got sooo happy when I got knowing that Josh Hutcherson would be Peeta. As a fan of Josh's work since the beginning of his carrear so I really got happy, I know he's that good, I'm sure he will be the perfect Peeta! :D

In terms of cast, the movie will be great too. (I'm just worried with whom they can get for Finnick, of course I have perfectly in my mind who should be, but its hard to be, so... it better they do good)

HEY! :D Welcome, Silvia! I was starting to think that posting in here was like posting in a ghost-town. You hopped onto the bandwagon for The Hunger Games LONG before I ever made the attempt to read them (I managed to conquer the entire series within the past month or two). Like you, I'm waiting on pins and needles for the movie to arrive in theaters, and I have no doubt that it will be absolutely AMAZING, especially with Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss (she was AWESOME as Mystique in X-Men: First Class) and Josh Hutcherson, who I agree will make a fantastic Peeta. Katniss and Peeta are definitely my two favorite characters of the series, and they comprise my favorite ship in it as well! :D Who are you hoping will get to play the role of Finnick, out of curiosity?

:D I love Hunger Games!!! I only found this thread now... omg, I can't wait for the movie! The cast seems great and I've watched the trailer many, many times.

I read the first book a bit late, since everyone was completely obsessed with it and that's sometimes a bad sign (*coughTwilightcough*), but then I picked it for a school thing and realized it was amazing and read it in a day. And then I got Catching Fire as soon as I could, since it was already out, and then had to wait forever for Mockingjay.

I'm glad that I ended up reading all three at once, Mica, 'cause yeah, I would have had a REALLY hard time waiting on on any of the sequels with as much as I enjoyed the original. Welcome to the thread -- so glad to know that one of my mafia friends is a fellow fan of The Hunger Games!!! :D

Yeah, I imagine that they rank toward the top of most Hunger Games' fans favorite characters list. :D The first two books ended on such cliffhangers, didn't they (the second book more so than the first)?! I'm glad that Mockingjay at least gave us some semblance of closure.

Yeah, definitely! At least with the first book, the general storyline of the book was sort of wrapped up. With the second one, they left us right in the middle of the most important part!

While Mockingjay at least ended things pretty definitively, I have to say it wasn't at all what I expected, and it was a lot sadder than I thought...

I agree with you there, Mica. I have to say that of all three of the books in the trilogy, Mockingjay was probably my least favorite. Without giving away any spoilers for those who read the thread but haven't finished the series yet, I really liked the epilogue, but several things that happened before it came out of nowhere for me, and yes, were far darker and sadder than I may have liked. Still, I have to place The Hunger Games as one of my favorite, and one of the most powerful, series I have ever read. :)

I wonder who they'll cast for some of the characters who appear later? Like the Quarter Quell tributes?

I've wondered the same thing, too -- it'll be very intriguing to see who they choose to case for characters like Finnick, Johanna, Wiress, and Beetee.

Oooh you know me.... SO you def know who I think its perfect for Finnick. ;):p:lol::cool:

I wouldnt mind play Annie, they can call me anytime of the day :p As much Johanna is a kind of awesome character too *and as much the amount of nudy would be a hard thing to do, I honestly think be naked side by side with Josh Hutcherson wouldn't hurt that much at all *

I KNOW! Their story is sooo beautiful, makes me wish Suzanne could tells us more about that District 4 T________T Their story is epic.

And can I be honest? As much Katniss & Peeta got known as the THG star crossed lovers, in the end teh real star cross lovers couple THG champions are Finnick and Annie.

Yeah, both couples and characters are my faves. *as much I really really like Gale too, too bad many readers seems dispise him, I honestly think he was an amazing character and got a just terrible terrible end.

As Jeff and Mica said Mockyingjay ended up kind pretty abruptly. I think Collins could have developed more the story before just in like one cap finish everything and make Katniss makes choices out of sudden, hopefully with the movies maybe they can fix somethings, idk...
