We will get the Joey spin-off, though. So it's not all bad. I just wonder how it'll go. It could be a flop, or it could go the way of Fraiser. I just hope they do it right.

yeah this is their last season. the set is closed. And there will be a spin off were Joey moves to LA to pursue his Acting career. I believe that the Joey spin off has a chance of being succesfull just for the fact that friends has a large fan base. And what is that fan base going to do after friends is over... Go get the next best thing Joey.

I'm a big Friends fan, but there's no way I could stand a show about Joey. The best part of Friends is that the time is split so you don't center around two characters only, you get them in doses. Also, Joey, IMO, is the least interesting character.

They should do a spin off about Chandler and Monica, that would be hilarious! hehe

I agree, Chandler has always been my favorite. I just watched the episode tonight where Rachel and Monica walk him through some relationship advice when he scews up with Janice. It's always hilarious to watch his slow descent into a gibbering mass of neuroses.

I'll miss it but personally i think the show started to loose it's magic during Season 5. It shouldn't have run as long as it has. Always best to go out on a bang rather than a wimper.

Season 1,2,3 and 4 were the best :)

Hee, I was just going to say that. After Monica and Chandler moved in together it lost something. Chandler is a completely different character now, although last night's episode had him being a little more like himself.

Does anyone else think that Monica became annoying in season 7 (and parts of 6)?
As for Rachel and Joey, I don't think they work together. I was keeping an open mind about it, but not so much.

Thank god i'm not the only one who noticed this. Her voice became all screechy and she kept acting all hyper like she'd had a billion cups of coffee. Comparing her character to the earlier seasons you'd think it was a different person.

Still, Friends is Friends, never find a good enough replacement! Although those shows are all good...although I have only HEARD CSI shows not actaully watched them. I have never liked Friends, and I am happy that the show will finally be going off the air. I am suprised that the show lasted ten years.

I am also happy that the show is ending because now Tru Calling will get better ratings on Thursdays with Friends gone, if the show is picked up for a second season.

I'll be avoiding the show just like I have for the past nine or ten years. It's just not the type of show I like. I like some comedies, but not "Friends."

I have to study for finals anyway so I'll be busy with other things.

Sharkie
05-03-2004, 05:36 PM
To me, it's funny. It makes me laugh every time I watch it, I could see the episode same episode hundreds of times and I still laugh, that is something because that does not happen often.

Before Smallville, it was the ONLY show I couldn't miss. I'd plan my weeks around it.

Most of all, it's been on for TEN YEARS. Most shows last much less than that. 5 years is a LONG run by todays standards, so the fact this is it's tenth and final year means a lot. It's now a pop icon. And that's pretty cool. I have two friends who are dating and they are called Ross and Rachel because of their sporatic break ups and get back togethers.

I'm so sad that Friends is ending. Besides Smallville, it's my favorite show. I've seen every episode (most of them three or four times). I know this sounds stupid, but I really feel like I'm saying goodbye to my friends tonight. It's going to be pretty hard. I'd vote, but it looks like the poll is closed. 'This thread has been moved here so if you saw it elsewhere, I moved it.'

The day has come after ten years, where Friends leave the air. Ross, Chandler, Joey, Monica, Rachel, and Phoebe all say good-bye tonight after their run on the NBC network. It will be sad to say good-bye to one of the veteran shows, but in a way it is a good thing. Let the show go out while on top. Although this post is beginning early, I won't be online during the show so I am starting it early. After the show, rate the episode and voice your opinions on it.

Ok, I won't ruin anything for the people who have not seen it, but I will say it was a CLASSIC. I mean it ended the RIGHT way, and how it should have been. I think it's an okay show, but definitely not worth my time to sit down and watch every week. I dunno - I was never big on any of the "major" sitcoms though like Friends, Seinfeld, Frasier... so maybe I just don't get it.

Now the Simpsons... THAT's a long run. I don't even know how many seasons they're on at this point. Somewhere between 10 and 20 is all I know.

And for the record JAG is in its 9th season this year... don't hear people makin' a fuss about that though.

yeshuamyking7
05-06-2004, 09:41 PM
I think Friends was the greatest. I'm so sad to see it go. I've seen all the episodes, most of them several times. I'm happy about the way it ended, but I wish it didn't have to end.

I think the reason why people love it so much is that over the years you get to know the characters so well that you feel like you're a part of the group. It's like there's an open seat at Central Perk for you. I know that sounds corny, but Friends is just that kind of show. The characters are funny, and they're the kind of people that I wouldn't mind hanging out with, which is basically what I did for ten years.

I'm definitely going to watch Joey. It may work, or it may not. But I'm going to give it a shot. I'm pretty sure it starts this fall. I'm not sure what time it will be. There's supposed to be a Dateline tonight at 8PM Eastern time, and they're going to have a sneak preview of the show.

As for Friends guest stars, I don't really think it will happen any time soon. They may have one sided phone calls, which would be nice for updates on what's going on in the other friends's lives. I'm not sure if they would have a Ross/Rachel wedding on Joey. They would almost have to bring the whole cast back together, and that would be too much like a reunion to happen any time soon, if at all. That being said, I would certainly love seeing it.

Awww, man, what a tear jerker. Me and a bunch of my sorority sisters got together at one sister's apartment and watched. We made quesadillas and cried like babies. It was great. But I'm so mad, I set my VCR to record at home, and it didn't, so now I don't have it. Guess I'll have to wait for the DVD. Sigh. They were on Operah today and I cried like crazy. I keep hearing the finale commercial trailer "after ten years our best friends are saying goodbye" and that kills me. *Sob* First Buffy, now Friends, and next it's Angel. I didn't watch it because I don't watch Friends, but some of my friends who are hard core Friends fans got sooooooooo angry at the end of the finale that they were screaming at the TV. Apparently they weren't mad because Ross and Rachael ended up together, but they WERE mad because they thought he should've been the one to follow her and not vice versa. One of them said sometihng like "Hello? She HAS to go to further her career. What's YOUR job? Something to do with dinosaurs???"

I didn't know that NBC was still going to be airing episodes. The One where the Stripper Cries and The Last One are both airing on the 20th in the normal timeslot. I wonder when that's going to end. Of course, it has to end when Joey airs, but I'm not sure if they're going to keep running Friends during the summer.

the panther
05-09-2004, 06:48 PM
They might keep running Friends up until Joey airs. Just because they're reruns doesn't mean that NBC won't get high ratings.

To answer DB's question - Friends [notice the "s"] is a show that can make you laugh no matter how down in the dumps you are. And you can relate to all the characters in one way or the other. I've grown up watching Friends, and it's been like a tradition to sit down every Thursday and watch it with my family. There are very few shows that my family and I enjoy watching together that aren't on TV Land. Most of the stuff out there nowadays is pure crap and tasteless. Friends has always been silly and funny, but you can still relate to all the characters.

yeshuamyking7
05-09-2004, 08:19 PM
No, I know. They always get high ratings with Friends reruns. I was just commenting on the fact that I didn't realize they were still going to run any reruns.

The characters are the chief reason why Friends is so special. Over the years we got to know these characters, and felt like we were their friends. They are really loveable characters, people that I would like to hang out with. So it isn't any surprise that the show has done so well, because it really connects with the audience. I hope that Joey will be the same way.

05-09-2004, 08:52 PM
I'd imagine NBC will continue airing the Friends reruns through the summer. The show has always gotten good ratings. The network would be foolish not to continue with the summer reruns. Besides, it would be a good build-up to the spinoff series with the Joey character.

Sharkie

Mike (yeshuamyking7) and Allison (panther), NAILED it. You love the characters. Of course, everyone has a favorite, but you love them. When they're happy, you just want to hug them. When they are sad, you feel for them. It is RARE to connect with a character on a TV show, but you connect with your Friends. I think it's sad mindless junk like Survivor will soon take over the airwaves. Most important, with Friends, even in some of the most depressing episodes, you could laugh.

I totally agree. Friends is in a whole other league, and is much better than any reality show. Of course, I think even the worst sitcom is better than a reality show. I hate reality shows.

On a side note, has anyone ever had a Friends dream? I don't know, maybe I'm the only pathetic Friends geek, but I've had several dreams where I was hanging out with everybody at Central Perk. I think it would be cool if they had some kind of VR system where you could see an episode as if you were sitting on the couch with them. :)

Anyway, I still miss my friends. :( At least Joey will be back this fall, and hopefully there will be some guest spots and/or mention of what's happening in the other friends's lives in the show.

What was bad about Ross and Rachel? I was so happy that they got back together. I was flipping out when she got on the plane, because there was so little time left in the show. Anyway, it was absolutely superb. One of the best episodes ever, and so funny. It's hard to believe that there will never be another new episode. I miss the show already.

Why would Ross want to leave Ben? Second, Ross has tenure at a major university, that's difficult to get and he has more job security than Rachel does. She could easily get a job in New York. It'd be harder for Ross to get a job in Paris than Rachel to get a job in New York.

I rated the finale of Friends a "2." It was an all around good episode and ended as it should have, with Ross and Rachel together. However, Chandler came off as such an a**hat for wanting to split up the twins. I couldn't believe he was being serious. The show has declined in "the funny" over the past couple of seasons, IMHO. Though, that is expected and I still get a few giggles each episode. Oh, another thing that irked me, how many times are we going to have a baby born as a finale? Didn't Rachel do the same last year giving birth to Emma? Oh well...

I enjoyed the final episode. It wrapped up everything, although storywise, the crying at the end didn't make sense to me. When the episode ended, they were all still living in Manhatten or the surrounding area. No one was actually leaving. The crying only really made sense to me when I considered that the actors were saying goodbye. Other than that, I thought it was a great episode. And the final pan of the empty apartment was perfect.

I thought it was a bit rushed. They should have started this a while back. That way, we could have seen them together again for a few episodes. They should have pushed the birth up one or two episodes, and had Ross and Rachel's wedding be the Finale. It's six of one, half a dozen of the other, though. I'm happy with the way things ended. I just wish they didn't have to end.

I totally agree. In fact, I wish it could go on forever. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I don't think Friends was corny at all. The show remained consistently funny from the pilot until the very last episode. I thought every episode was laugh-out-loud funny, and I've seen most of them three or four times apiece. I can still laugh at the reruns, even after seeing them over and over again. Again, though, the main reason why Friends was so special was the character development, and the extent to which the audience felt like these six people were like our own friends. I got to know these characters over the years, and grew to love them. And it didn't hurt that they made me laugh. I honestly think it was the best sitcom ever.

It makes sense. Some people don't like the show, and that's fine. I just don't happen to agree, and quite honestly, I'm not sure from where that opinion comes. I don't know how anyone could not love Friends. However, as I've said, I'm a total Friends fanatic, so I'm biased.

The thing with Friends is that we watched it grow.
We got to learn about and love the characters and we have seen them on TV for 10 years.
It holds a lot of sentimental value.
I am sad now that it is finished.

I'm not really surprised. It will probably die sooner or later, but there are enough people who really like Friends to keep it going. The reasons why Friends is special have all essentially been layed out, though. It's a very funny show, with endearing characters with whom the audience has connected over a period of a decade. I love the show, and really miss it. I'm looking forward to Joey. Hopefully it will have some of the magic that Friends had.

Well in all honesty, if they were going to have a spinoff, Joey would be my last pick. I'd much rather see Ross and Rachel, or Monica and Chandler, or Phoebe and Mike. However, it's still Joey, and I love Joey. So, I'm definitely going to watch. I don't know that comparing it to Friends is going to be fair, because Friends was, in my opinion, the best sitcom ever. However, I think it will be a good show in its own right, and I think most of the fans of Friends are going to come along for the ride.

05-14-2004, 10:33 AM
I bet Joey will be awesome, but like you I'd rather see 1st Monica and Chandler, cause they are my two favorites and it'll be interesting to see them raise twins. Ross and Rachel cause I mean, come on, they're icons. And they are finally together, hopefully forever. And Pheobe is hilarious and we don't know too much about Mike. But I love Joey! Joey reminds me of a Friend of my own, just my Friend is smart :)

My opinion on Friends:

A funny show, but it was in no way revolutionary. For many people, it was comfort TV. You knew what you were getting when you tuned in at 8 on Thursdays. It was a consistent comedy, with at least one character that everybody could relate to. This is one of the reasons it enjoyed such a successful run after 9/11. Everybody's world was tossed upside down, yet Friends was that rock in a river of inconsistency. You could count on your Friends.

yeshuamyking7
05-14-2004, 02:39 PM
Well, I think a show can be comforting and revolutionary at the same time. Before Friends, there weren't many shows that talked as openly about sex on television. Plus, you had a show where all the main characters were from the same demographic (which the studio execs didn't like). Also, the show was an ensemble, when most shows are focused around one or two people. I think it definitely blazed some trails, and left a lasting mark on popular culture.

But in the extended version they have a whole bunch of extra scenes. In one Chandler asks Mon if she can tell the twins apart. He points to one asking who it is, and Mon says Jack. Chandler looks and says "Wow, Jack is going to have a hard time in High School with that vagina."

Joey: Ok heads for ducks. Cause ducks have heads!

I really liked the one where they played the trivia game. That was so funny. And Ross kept doing the "Challenge extended ..." stuff, in that weird voice. That was hilarious.

"It has something to do with transponding ..."

"Transponding ... traspond ... oh, he's a transpondster! He's a transpondster!!!"

"Nooooo!!! That's not even a word!!!"

 That was funny. Or when that guy in the strip club was telling Phoebe that she and her baby could go to another strip club, and she said in that sarcastic voice, "It's not my baby."

I like the one where Rachel tried to seduce this guy at Emily's farewell party. First she plays spin the bottle, then she puts on a cheerleading outfit and does this backflip and gives herself a fat lip. Then she tries to pull her bra out through her sleeve.
