I'm reading all the topics about this episode, and I haven't even seen a reference about the quote that Tess told to Davis after she blew him up in the car.

"It's like keeping bat's around, to wipe out the parasites who prey on the city"

I think it's an obvious Batman reference right there.

Tell me what you think.

I don't think it is. But, that's just my opinion.

I don't think that it was meant to me, but it did make me think of batman...and parasite.

Yeah, I thought so too. ;) Don't know if it was intended that way but it sure perked me up.

It was definitely meant to be a Batman reference. They were comparing Davis to Batman in the way they both do vigilante killings. Davis is like "the bats" (Batman) who kills the parasites (the slugs of Gotham City).

Except Bruce has more of a choice.

That was definitely a reference to Batman. That was the 1st thing I thought of when Tess said it. I wonder if she knows BW. She's probably doing the boom chaka wow-wow with all the billionaires/millionaires.

Yes. Caught that immediately. I think Bats would be offended because I don't think he's ever killed anyone in current continuity (maybe beaten them up to bloody pulp).

Batman doesn't kill, Batman goes out of his way not to kill.

Where was this? The only time I remembered he did was Joker in "the Dark Knight" comic.

I believe that's exactly what it was. I actually told a friend of mine that it was a Batman reference immediately after I heard her say that.

Total Batman reference. Just don't get your hopes up, we won't see Bruce on Smallville.

It was a batman reference. Although Batman would not be a vigilante who kills. Like Tess was telling Davis was.

Davis can't compare.. he's not a "vigilante" by choice or expertise, and not so attractive as his alter ego. :p

FALSE!! Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't true. Plus at the end of Battle for the Cowl #1 Jason Todd's Batman sported two guns.

Hey, Nikki. Thanks for correcting me earlier. BTW, I don't much like JTodd, so its either Brucie boy as the only Bats for me, or DGrayson if he ever took the mantle.

Bats are a good thing. I have them in my barn and they eat bugs which helps to control them. I would say that Tess was insulting the bats by comparing Davis to them. Taking the law into his own hands and murdering people who deserve a trial has made Davis a vigilante of the worst kind. Where is Lex when we need him. He at least took the farmer who left bodies buried on the farm and confined him in 33.1. Davis is still free to kill:(

I don't much like Bruce just like Clark doesn't really excite me either. I think both characters are tired and idolised to the point of craziness. All it does is make me more interested in the other heroes around like Supergirl and Nightwing.

I didn't understand who she was was making the reference toward. Davis? It didn't seem to fit in the conversation.

Did she mean that, the bats were as bad as the parasites that they were meant to kill? By trying to get rid of one threat we create a worse one?

Well, there are plenty of heroes to go round, and Superman and Batman have been around much longer so I can understand some of the idolization. Nightwing and the Teen Titans are newer. Out of all of them, Raven was my favourite.

I think you're thinking of her pre-Darkseid confrontation (don't know what else to call it), when she had "issues". Don't know much about Impulse in the comics.:p

Batman doesn't kill and neither does Superman as per long standing moral codes, but you can always find times when there was an exception to the rules like the Kryptonian trio in the pocket universe, although Superman suffered over that quite a bit. Davis kills because of a compulsion to kill. There's no comparison. Tess seemed to choose bats as an example of something many people are repulsed by or fear, but that feed on pests like mosquitoes that feed on us. Tess is no better than Davis in that she, like him, justifies the murders he commits because the victims were criminals.
