I'm surprised that so many people are saying that Chloe made the right choice in killing Davis. And I'm not saying that because she ended up making Davis indestructible and immortal, although that was pretty bad. But I'm saying it because I've always admired Clark Kent's ethics and his belief that killing is never a way to beat the opponent. In this case he chose not to kill Davis and he was right because now Davis is a lot more dangerous. Of course Chloe didn't know that, but it doesn't change the fact that she made the situation 100 times worse based on her unethical decision to kill Davis.

And what I find so ironic about the whole episode is that in Legion, Clark was faced with a similar situation in which Chloe was infected by Brainiac. The LoSH, just like Chloe here, believed that sometimes you need to do whatever it takes, even ending someone's life for the greater good. Clark thankfully did not share the same beliefs as the LoSH and did not give up on Chloe and ended up saving her life. The irony is that if Clark would have follow Chloe's logic from tonight's episode she herself would have been killed by the LoSH.

But Chloe knows that because she told Clark in Legion that if it came to a choice between the world and herself that Clark should choose the world. That's a pretty gloomy statement to make. And it just keeps on reinforcing how different Clark and Chloe are, and how similar Chloe is to Lana. Clark is always optimistic and that's part of the reason why he always triumphs. He doesn't choose between lesser of evils, he always strives to do the right thing.

Chloe had been taken over by Brainiac and there was the chance to seperate them without killing her. Davis/DD is one creature that has burried a field full of bodies. He wanted to die to end it all. If he lives..........the killing continues.

You know I agree but you have to have a lot of faith in Clark to let him let Davis live and hope that he doesn't get anyone else killed. Sometimes I wonder if superheros are just naive but Clark is allowed that luxury since he can make the impossible happen. I see both sides of it.

the difference is that Davis still has a concious and Clark knows people have the ability to take the higher road its what makes him so extraordinary. but when davis loses control and becomes the beast clark doesnt know how much trouble there will be with DD. He is a killing machine while Davis can be reasoned with...Clark will have to give into his darkest demons to kill DD....

But Davis is a ticking time bomb, he can't control Doomsday and could fully change any second. We are betting the lives of everyone in the planet that Clark clean up his mess and beat this thing unless he finds a more effective solution for Doomsday. But hey it's great action and drama but if some superhero was all like this invincible monster that can rampage any second deserves a shot to live in real life I would say fry the sucker.
Herod, thanks for bringing this up. I'm not sure I see the issue the same way. I'm glad they show the contrasting opinions, and I'm not sure everyone knows how central to the mythos the sanctity of life is.
I think Chloe's been pretty clear and consistent. In Legion, she thought it would have been reasonable to take her life. In the immediate past, Chloe told Clark he should hang up the red and blue in case Tess knew his secret. She's been pretty worried that he's not protecting himself sufficiently. I thought that Chloe was getting over-protective in a very uptight sort of way, but tonight's episode corrected the issue for me.
Barring all that, there's still the issue of how a person responds to an immediate threat. When someone/thing goes after someone you care about, you don't hesitate to do whatever it takes. I think in a life-or-death situation, it's a very rare person who takes the hardest way out.
Helps if you're Superman and the writers always find you an out. The writers don't always help Chloe like that.
And isn't she the one that always teases Clark about his extreme need to feel guilt? If he never takes a life, then why feel guilt like he does?
