Meaning he won't reach his full potential until Doomsday has been destroyed, i'm assuming the ultimate showdown will be the last episode of season 8, so it's possibly Clark will die along with Davis in the struggle, but once Clark returns for season 9 do you think he'll reach his full potential then?

I don't know, but its an interesting theory. The idea of Clark having to "die" to become Superman does seem kinda lame, though.

It would fit in with the "savior" angle though they are going for with Clark.

Well he doesn't have to necessarly die just kill Doomsday at least to achieve his full potential

Rather than killing him, they should make him rid Doomsday by trapping him in the Phantom Zone or punching him deep into space so that they could meet again in the future after he's Superman.

Will the battle be this season? I'm wondering now if they will get everything built up and the real battle be the season premier. Next week will be a meaningless filler.

killing clark would be the most anti climactic thing they could ever do
final showdown: woot!
its kind of like in action when that guy said clark needed to lose lana to fulfill his destiny, rise from tragedy, challeges etc.... w/e

I think it's a big cop out. It's even worse that Tess is involved now in pushing Clark to his destiny. I wish he'd push himself for a change.

I'm hoping Doomsday gets trapped in the Phantom Zone for the future fight between Superman and Doomsday. I believe Clark fufills his destiny when he becomes Superman at the end of season 9 (if that's the season Smallville ends) and faces Lex. Hence, proving the legend in the caves right and showing how wrong Tess is. It makes sense why Clark is so indifferent to Tess and her pushing him to fufill his destiny.

I think killing clark would be lame since we all know he's coming back next season. It wont be a cliffhanger at all. Also how many times has clark been killed already, its kinda been done to death...pun intended.

Seems like utter nonsense to me.
Can anyone explain to me WHY Clark must face his greatest challenge before he can fulfill his destiny? Can't he just, y'know... decide to put on the cape all by himself?

I don't understand what could he gained from dying & coming to life?He has already died and didn't really work. What would be so different now?Just because this is a bigger challenge?I'm not buying it either. On the contrary,he should find a way to fight him and send him to the PZ or into space. The fact that he has to die to become the hero that we all know is a pretty lazy scenario.

When he died and came back to life in S5's "Hidden" it was for around 15 minutes maybe? There was some emotional resonance to the scene, but not much because it was so short.
What would be different this time (with the Pro-kill Clark in "Doomsday" Movement being proposed) is that he dies and doesn't come back right away. The people who don't know his secret will think he's either went missing or was killed during the battle, so you would see how people who don't know his secret, like Jimmy and Lois, deal with losing a friend. For someone like Chloe, Ollie and the JLA, losing Clark would be more devastating as they know his secret and the circumstances surrounding how he died. And when he doesn't come back right away they'll think Clark is gone forever, and deal with those feelings.
But when Clark comes back 2 months later, when no one is expecting it or can believe it, that would have a lot of emotional resonance.
Plus I think most of the hardcore Superman fans want to see some parallel from the "World Without a Superman" comic storyline, which I sort of adapted above.

It's pretty obvious to me that with the referrence of Clark being the savior that he will die at the hands of Doomsday, except after being beaten, Clark will have a heart rate so low that they will think he is dead but he isn't. I'm not sure how they are going to pull it off that no one sees or knows that it is Clark fighting DD. Maybe a new RBB costume. Lois could still mourn the RBB and Clark will be so messed up she won't recognize him. Martian Manhunter or the Legion will take Clark to a place where he will heal in the sun. Since Jesus died and came to life in 3 days, they might use that time line for him to gain consciousness but then he will fully recuperate over the summer and come back to take care of Doomsday and send him to the Zone or somewhere he won't be able to kill anyone. Clark will make some excuse that he went to visit relatives over the summer. I'm not sure what Doomsday is doing in the meantime. Maybe he kidnaps Chloe and off they go to the mountains and DD takes his rage out on animals...Probably won't happen anything like this but it is fun to make up a story.

It wouldn't surprise me if Clark actually died to fulfill the scenario of Doomsday killing Superman. Only that afterwards he gets resurrected in the restored fortress...God knows how. Or that he indeed is almost dead. The manhunter having his powers back by miracle brings him closer to the sun and Clark heals. I still think Doomsday will be a threat in the next season. I speculate Davis will be a fugitive, ran out from Smallville (who knows maybe with Chloe) He still might be killing criminals to keep the beast down. I mean if they plan to keep Doomsday, then they should keep Davis too, cause without Davis I think DD would just become a boring mindless monster.

Yawn. This is why the Supes story always seems to loose steam....whether it's this TV series or the Movies. His "Destiny"......"he is the Savior"......"a legend Takes Flight"......no matter how epic they try to make it sound....it gets old.
Oh, and this ones really rich....the "Last of his race"...........TOTAL BS. But I could live with it if the stories were written really well.

This is really Superman's fight so I think he should get the long term death after the final battle with DD. That's why I don't want Clark to be unconscious for more than a few days...I'm wondering how the Fortress will be restored.

It will have to get restored some day. Maybe the orb can help? I know it brought the fortress down, but maybe it has other abilities.

My guess is Doomsday will likely be trapped in the Phantom Zone or sent to the future.Cause there's no way they'll have Clark die or have him defeat Doomsday.Because if Clark beats Doomsday now it'll go against the comic's history completely.

aren't there other things done in 'Smallville' done against comic book history, Lois already turning up in Smallville in Season 4. Lex being best buddies with Clark.... Just to name a few...

They've gone against the comics history so many times now. I think it's very possible Doomsday will kill Clark & live on to next season's premiere where he will be sent to the Phantom Zone. Or maybe the Legion will show up & give Clark another Legion ring & Clark will use it to eventually take Doomsday to the end of time like he did in the comics.

What if Clark somehow manages to subdue Doomsday temporarily (beginning of next season obviously) and traps him in some (kryptonian?) metal box.... then buries it in the field where Davis hid his murder victims?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the comics, wasn't the box Doomsday was trapped in underground located in Kansas? What if Clark was the one who put him there in this incarnation....

Lex being friends with Clark was from the Superboy comics.

I don't know much about them, but that still doesn't change the fact that they weren't childhood friends as in Smallville.

Remarking on the whole greatest challenge I seriously doubt Doomsday is Clark's greatest challenge. I mean look at the history of the show Clark's been repeating the same lessons over and over. If you ask me actually 'learning' and quit repeating the same mistakes. Will be Clark's greatest challenge to over come let alone worry about defeating doomsday.

Clark is already saving people...so what does Clark have to prove to Tess?
I just thought of something, I think Lois is actually Clarks greatest Challenge! To find a balance between wanting a "normal life" with the one he loves and his destiny to save to world. That is his greatest Challenge in my opinion! And plus he has to win Lois over all over again and make her understand what he did in the past was the best thing for her and the rest of the world.
Opinions???
