I just finish watching 10.5 on NBC and I was rolling on the floor when I found out that it was none other than John S. playing a character named CLARK! This probably where he was for his last two episodes. He wasn't getting checked at the doctors, he was trying to avoid being in a earthquake! LOL!

Actually no - 10.5 was filmed last summer - while Smallville was on summer break. I think where John was for those two weeks was actually in Florida - doing the taping for the Childrens Miracle Network Telethon - they tape them now at the end of March, and then play what was taped the first week of June.

yeah, the show had to have been filmed a while ago. they do the cast scenes first then the special effects later which take the longest to do.

sharkie, you can catch the last 2 hours of it tomorrow night.

Actually, according to Allison Mack, he took those two weeks to get ready to direct "Talisman." Apparently, directing an episode of "SV" is pretty grueling and time-consuming work, so he needed extra time to prepare.

Anyway, back on topic. . . . I think that was pretty good as disaster flicks go. There were certainly some hokey moments, but that goes with the territory! As usual, the TV critics were pretty far off-base. The only bad acting I can recall was from the guy in the helicopter who reported the collapse of the Golden Gate Bridge. It looked like someone forgot to tell him he was supposed to be excited!

Great job by JS as "Clark." :) Hey, how about that scene where he's whooping and laughing as he drives his van off the road into the woods? And his line "I've missed doing that"? I'm starting to wonder if his agent has instructions to make sure every project he does has at least one scene that reminds people of "Dukes"! :)

Oh, and did anyone else notice the scene where his daughter was talking about "stupid" country songs? I was wondering if that was supposed to be a bit of an inside joke as well.

Anyway, that was pretty enjoyable. I can't wait to see what happens tonight, especially to the two of them!

Edited to add: Looks like it did well in the ratings.

Something else I forgot to mention: Now that his daughter has lost her inhaler, what do you want to bet they're going to rip off the scene from "Signs" where the kid has an asthma attack while trapped in the basement?

Simply the cheesiest mini-series I've seen in a long time! I should have turned the channel but I found it comical, especially since I've survived numerous earthquakes. Quite funny actually. I believe I will tune in to watch the ending. However, Southern California is expected to have a major earthquake in September.
The info comes from Cal Tech. A bunch of reminders are warning Californians to be prepared if they're not already.

The overall buzz has been that 10.5 is horrible and that is why I am not watching it. Even though I am a fan of John's, it takes more than one person to make it enjoyable overall.

just finished watching it on the east coast. have to admit those last 20 minutes had me nearly biting my nails. it was both scary and awe inspiring. the ending was pretty powerful. the water scenes were very well done.

Renee28
05-03-2004, 08:13 PM
Whew! They didn't kill him! For a few minutes there, once the "big one" started, I was kind of worried. But he made it.

And he was still in love with his wife. Awww. The line about leaving her because he was scared of change was pretty darn stupid (as even his character admitted), but most of that scene was really sweet.

Oh, and vyperman . . . don't be too sure that it takes more than one person! :) Actually, there were other characters that kept me interested too. It wasn't really horrible -- just your standard hokey disaster flick, not meant to be taken too seriously, but pretty enjoyable if you don't expect too much. (A man in a hole with a nuclear warhead parked on his chest? Um, okay. . . . ) But ultimately, I did watch it for JS, and he didn't disappoint.

I thought 10.5 was a great miniseries of science fiction & great entertainment. It was totally exciting & great acting by Pa Kent that made it very enjoyable!

Eh. I watched both halfs of the miniseries airing on Sunday and today. It wasn't the best I've seen. Compared to a series of Band of Brothers calibur; the show was crap. I spotted a lot of contradictions. Oh, and what irked me the most is during one of the very beginning scenes on the Sunday episode. Dr. Hill, the brilliant scientist who figures out how to stop the earthquakes, doesn't bother to take any of the necessary precautions when the first quake hits. I can't remember precisely but I believe she was standing in her kitchen where cabinets are and dishes are bound to come flying out. And if I am mistaken, aren't you supposed to be under a table anyway?

Oh well, JS looked hot! Hence, I was satisfied.

see i live in California and there are some people here who see these movies and freak. the lady should have gone in a door jam or under a table. around August and September people believe there are going to be earthquakes because the dogs are go crazy because they have sixth sense.

but hey the last small tremor i slept through. but w/ movie i didnt i liked it.

Hey guys I enjoyed the movie a lot and
I got a chance to tape off both parts of
it .I thought that JS. acted more like
Johnthan Kent instead of his chracter
in the movie (CLARK) but I noticed he
was a bit edger with that girl then he is
with SV's clark. And to this flim has
chances of winning a emmy.I just wish
it could have been released on the big
screen because of the great FX during the
quake scenes and to.I loved the new
camera angels they used. And to this
is kind of funny but last night during the
movie I felt my bed move then I get
on the USGS site this morning and found
out that new madraid had a 2.5 quake about that time.Well anywho great movie
I hope they make a sequel to it................

It was an ok series. But the way the camera was zooming in every 2 minutes was hilarious!

I live in California and they're saying there will be a big one by September. I'm not gonna freak out about it. They can predict but usually not 100% accurate. I'm always prepared for one. It's already been 10 years since the last big one in Northridge.

Oh yeah, the "Amateur film maker's cheap camera effect" used to create a mood of panic or franticness was so over done. The director of "Man on Fire", the new Denzel Washington movie, also used this effect, and though I think it was a nice touch on both the movie and 10.5, it really should be used in moderation. They had to make me hate it.

still felt it was frightenly interesting. the train scene, the burried car, the bridge going down and the computer shots of the ever growing gap.

i heard about that to they aired that segment right after the news in my area. from what they say its gonna hit in the Mojave Desert which will end up hitting the San Joquain Valley where i live. i go to school and these students are saying "you think its true". but my family are prepared, i say lets wait for September and see if these guys really can predict.

Exactly. You can't predict nature.

Clarkie76
05-06-2004, 11:23 AM
I'm not freaked out about another major earthquake because it's a natural occurence in California and I'm prepared with the materials neccessary to survive. However, no one can be prepared for the mental effects an earthquake causes once it hits. Also with the advancement of technology, scientists can give warning to local citizens before a natural diaster hits; Tornados and hurricanes have a better predictability rate than earthquakes. Believe me this September earthquake warning isn't holding my life hostage. I still live my life normally. As for 10.5, I found it laughable throughout the mini-series.

Ratings update: The movie did even better than anyone realized at first -- best ratings for an NBC original movie in five years! As the critics are saying, I guess people wanted to see California fall into the ocean!

http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271%7C87929%7C1%7C,00.html

On a side note, the "Washington Post" ran the picture of John S. getting buried in the car twice in one week, once with the review of the movie and once with the ratings report. Either someone at the paper really likes him, or someone likes to make fun of him, because it was kind of a goofy picture. :)
