Did this episode beat the cool ending of "Subterranean"?

Although, in my opinion, "Subterranean" was one of the series' worst episodes, it always had my favourite ending scene - Lex walking through 33.1 with all the krypto-freaks swiping at him from their cells and AFI's Prelude 12/21 playing in the background.

However, "Hex" has an awesome ending that I think tops that. The way the names of the League scrolled across the screen, all of them signing on, and then Chloe reclaims her position as Watchtower...I loved it.

So which do you prefer?

Can't really decide. They were both pretty cool. And I even have the AFI Prelude on my iPod, just because of how badass it was with the scene.

It would have to be either the season 3 or 4 finale.
Season 3 had a total "Oh my God" moment as everything seemed to fall apart, but Season four had a huge cliff hanger. I remember once I saw the space ship, my jaw fell to the floor. Plus Clark standing in the arctic throwing the crystal... It was really the first time SV went further than what had been established, and brought in more of the sci-fi Superman lore into the mix. Both were great moments.

I say "Subterranean," because in all honesty, I laughed a bit at the end of "Hex." Maybe the weather updates killed the mood for me or something, but the rock music at the end there felt a little abrupt. I'll have to rewatch this one...

Lex's 33.1 walk is, however, immortal.

Subterranean by a huge margin. The end of Hex was good, but not as an ending, it is just a very highly ranked Smallville comic throwback scene.

This thread is pretty cool though, I thought I might have been the only one who thought so highly of the Subterranean end scene.

In my opinion (just my personal one mind you), both endings were a tad on the melodramatic side. Still, I've gotta stick with my girl Chloe on this one. She rocked the house in that final scene, and it got me really pumped to see the photos of all the other Justice League heroes (though I wished they could've already added Zatanna as a contact to that list -- Ollie should have called in his favor immediately and pulled her in as part of the team).

I'm glad you picked these two because it made the vote really hard. At least this ending came with a fantastic episode. I have to say though, Lex's walk down that hallway was the best. Chloe as Watchtower gave me goose bumps, but Lex's walk gave me a twisted primal satisfaction. It was like waking a sleeping dragon in my soul. Lex get's this vote but.....

Subterranean's ending confirmed Level 33.1 exists. And I've been waiting YEARS for the PTB to actually do something with that storyline. And they finally are.

Subterranean had one of the best Smallville endings with Lex walking through a Level 33.1 hallway and the 'experiments' reaching out their arms to him for help.

Well, Hex had a cool ending with Chloe taking back her post as "watchtower." The endings were similar in certain ways. Arrival was another similar ending (see video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4sW4gzCVxo)) with James Marsters first appearance as Brainiac as he dripped from his black ship and molded into Milton Fine.

But I believe Hex's ending was a subtle call out to Subterranean's ending. See, Subterranean's Level 33.1 ending was finally confirming the existence of Lex's experiments into developing super powered beings. And now, After so many years of build up with the Level 33.1 storyline, it has become a team formed and lead by Tess.

So it makes sense that The Justice League would become completed and ready again just in time for this new teams emergence, The Injustice Gang.

I don't think it was a coincidence that Hex got such a cool ending that matches well with the Level 33.1 ending in Subterranean. I think this was on purpose. And I really do like it.

Subterranean was ridiculously awesome. This ending was kind of cheesy, like they wanted it to be edgy too much. I mean, Lex was walking like a pimp while men in cages railed against him and there was flickering lighting.

Whereas the ending to Hex, finally gave many fans the Chloe they have been waiting for all season and the obvious return of some JLA members, the whole episode was good, its not the best ending of the season so far (that would go to Odyssey or Identity to me)

The ending to Subterranean was not expected.

The episode was terrible to say the least, and then they just threw us this, MAGNIFICENT ending, complete with the slow motion swagger of Lex and arms reaching out to grab his bald head.
It was what we had FINALLY been waiting for. The confirmation of then existance of 33.1 and we got it.

I'm struggling to see the similarities other than a rock song playing... can you describe what you think is similar?

They are both very good, movie leading to a sequel, style endings. Like the end of The Matrix.

But i'm struggling to see an actually similarity beyond that. I'd compare it more with the last scene of the 'Angel' finale, which actually ended with 'Let's go to work'... It's a great line to end a scene on, especially when you know that this scene is leading to a new chapter in the story... In Angel's case it was the comics, in Smallville's case, it's leading to Chloe working with the Justice League full time.

"Parallel" wasn't the best word to use I guess. I thought the Watchtower Online ending was more of a shout out to the Level 33.1 ending in the idea that Lex's badguy group was confirmed to be real, and now the JL are about to be matched up against them.

The similarities you mentioned were the ones I was thinking about. Smallville usually ends on a curious note, or a melodramatic note. But hardly ever on a really cool, hyped up note unless it's a finale. This ending resembled a finale in a way, in that we see that the story we end with keeps going after the credits roll. And I liked that. It's different than what we get most of the time.

And in that way there are definite similarities between Hex and Subterranean :)

Wouldn't it have been brilliant, if we'd had a small scene either before or after the finale scene of Hex that showed someone signing up for the Injustice league as well? That would have been a great parallel :D

The Watchtower ending did have a little bit of cheese to it, but i prefer it, mainly because it cemented something i have been wanting for a long time, but didn't think would ever happen.

Yeah. I just wish we'd have more hints at the IL before we finally see them. I liked Tess recruiting them earlier in the season, but that story just fell off the map and I think most fans forgot about it. We should get some subtle hints to remind everyone that the IL storyline is coming back. I hope we do, and I hope we see them in the finale as well.

Cedric man, you're forgetting Covenant. IMHO, nothing will ever beat the ending to that episode. I don't think the Smallville audience was ever in as much awe as we were after seeing that ending. I was totally speechless during & after that ending. It reeked of awesomeness & brilliance.

Subterranean easily wins for the better ending it had Michael owning the walk, great music, and a wow factor after the rest of the episode was so bad as for best ending for an epsiode in the series Covenant was brillant and totally blew me away.

Lex's walk. It was pretty awesome. And it must've meant something because, honestly, I do not recall anything from that episode except for that ending scene.

Chloe going online was pretty cool but Lex wins, hands down.

AFI's "Prelude 12/21" is one of my favorite songs ever, and every time I hear it I always remember Lex Luthor walking through the halls of 33.1 with hands reaching for him in slow motion.... That scene was epic. Chloe's was good too, but Lex was phenomenal in that scene.

Come to think of it, Smallville seldom disappoints in the ending/cliffhanger department. The show consistently has me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode - "Hex" was no exception.

I think it pretty much made the scene. It set the entire dark mood. There was nothing else more perfect they could have played. It fit Lionel like no other music. I am still in awe whenever I watch that.
