View Full Version : Did Chloe's feelings for Clark return?

This episode kinda proved that Chloe hasn't really gotten over Clark. Anyone else think the same thing, or was it a different kind of "looking back fondly" for Chloe?

I don't think she ever did or will loose her feeling for Clark. But she has moved forward and loves him in her own way.

I think she still has some feelings for Clark and that is why she felt a little jealous about Clark calling Lois many times but didn't call Chloe on her birthday. That being said, Chloe has moved on for the most part and has even encouraged Clark to go after Lois.

Not at all. I saw the opposite. Chloe was teasing Clark about Lois and seemed genuine about it. She wasn't sad or upset. Any negative feelings she was having were because of Jimmy and the crumbling of her marriage.

I think she encouraged Clois actually.... I think this is the calm before the storm with their friendship.

The Watch Tower gives her a new purpose for life. I think after this eppisode Chloe has moved on
I don't think she has quite the same feelings for him she once had.I do think she was envious of Lois's life and that included working with Clark at the DP.I guess she just missed that and being close to Clark in general, maybe thats why she was upset he wasn't at her party and kept mentioning it.

Well i would be upset to if my best friend was blowing me off on my birthday under the pretense of being a hero but had all the time in the world to talk to lois before she left. lol
But that being said I think most of her "jealously" was nostalgia. Remembering how it use to be with her and clark fighting the meteor freaks and working together on the paper. She turns around and see's her old life gone and feels said and nostalgia over it. Alot of us do that. But i'm happy she came to her own realization of what she should be doing and is moving on. 'hmm i wonder what clark is going to think about watchtower? LOL
I'm happy they finally address her having remorse or confusion on how her life changed so suddenly. Up until now she was in denial saying " oh i never wanted to do this anymore anyways and so on and so forth" that annoyed me.
----- Added 2 Minutes later -----
Also some of things Clark said and she witnessed through Lois's eyes must of opened up her eyes a bit too. She was genuinely hurt by things he was saying but was trying to brush it off (good on ED for playing that part well) I actually felt like crying for her because of the fustration of the situation.

i voted no-way because i didn't sense that she did fall in love with him. She was helpful towards him but didn't seem hesitant to try and push Clois together so i think it is just platonic. She's got plenty on her hands with Davis/Jimmy still.

I think it'd be terribly sad if Chloe is still pinning for Clark. I really hope this isn't the case. As much as I love Chloe, I believe Clark has never had romantic feelings for her. He loves her deeply as a friend and that's about it.

03-26-2009, 08:32 PM
No, I don't think she fell in love all over again with Clark. I think she will always feel a special sort of love for Clark -- somewhere between friendship and something else -- but I think she now respects his decision to not pursue her romantically, and has decided to move on herself, which is actually rather healthy... even though, as a Chlarker, I would've liked to have seen Clark chase Chloe for a change, at least for a while. You could tell that her heart skipped a beat when Clark held her (and she appeared as Lois) -- that comment about "You've never looked at me that way before" was a dead giveaway that she had a momentary surge of wistfulness for the old Chlark days, as I'm sure a lot of the viewers (Chlark viewers that is) did, too.

she has moved in IMO but its kind of like walking into your old high school again and thinking what could have been you know? or even a serious guy you had feeligns for (ahem Clark in this case); I think chloe is just feeling nostalgic of what could have been because she did have such feelings for clark in all throughout high school, wanting to be a reporter, she sees the life she could have had, but lois is having now. not only does she get to be a reporter, she gets to be with CLARK! but thats why I think chloe now feels a better purpose in her life, being watchtower. and im happy for her

Chloe never stopped loving Clark. And she has every right to be jealous of her cousin. When it comes to her Clarkie poo she will always be a bridesmaid and never a bride. And she's all but given up on her marraige.

I don't think her feelings for Clark returned, they never really went away. No, she's not pining for him again, she's grown and realizes the truth of the moment, but it doesn't mean that she doesn't still love him. She's already shown so much in her efforts and abilities to protect, confide, and be there for him. She knows he doesn't, or can't or won't ever love her in the same way, but it doesn't mean her feelings are less strong. Her marriage to Jimmy couldn't work because she's so devoted to Clark...not as a girlfriend...not as his wife...but in many repsects as his equal.

I think Chloe is totally over Clark. To-tal-ly. No old feelings, nada. Now Davis on the other hand....;) And she's still in love with her husband. She's got too much on her plate to add another guy (Clark) to the mix.

I think there was a lot of Chloe angst in this episode about Chlark.
1." You've never looked at me that way before" LOL and add in Chlois' sort of disgusted look! XD btw props to ED she was great!
2.These two quotes make me feel really bad for Chloe. :(
"Maybe just for a second I was jealous of Lois was living my dream life with Clark at the planet."
"After spending the day at the DP I realized thats someone else's life."
I think Chloe will always love Clark but I think she has accepted the fact that Clark is digging Lois and not her. Man this episode was Chlarky with the whole "your a hero" thing but so depressing. I think I've lost hope in Chlark! :(

I believe she will always love him and hold a very special place in her heart, but I also think she's come to the point that she has let the idea of roma Chlark go (this is coming from a die-hard Chlark fan).

I voted for the middle option, I think Chloe deep down still has feelings for Clark and always will but she has had to come to terms with the fact that Clark doesn't feel that way about her and never will. I think the whole Chloe getting kinda jealous of Lois and wanting to be her was a big clue. Back in high school when Clark/Chloe worked on the Torch together, I guess Chloe thought someday Clark and her would do the same thing in the real world for the Daily Planet in Metropolis and that did end up happening except Chloe got replaced with Lois. She misses what she had with Clark and will always be kinda bummed out that she will never get to be with him. I mean cmon..must be hard to be "just friends" with a supercute superhuman from Krypton...

I think for a brief moment Chloe was overwhelmed by the possibility that she could continue the ruse and get closer to Clark than she'd had before. This whole episode brought some of these tensions to conclusion and I hope Chloe has moved on.
I recalled the era in Buffy when Buffy could turn invisible. During that time she indulged in many behaviors that were not herself. I am glad they wrote Chloe to be much stronger than that - had she abused her situation it would have had real consequences to their friendship.

The whole "you've never looked at me like that" statement made me wonder.
Well, just cause she´s over Clark, doesnt mean she´s forgotten what she went through and how she felt and how Clark looked at her when she was in love with him.
When I first saw the clip at Zatannas dressing room (or what ever) I thought Chloe´s line about "being in the DP with Clark" was in a sort of romantic sense but after seeing her conversation with Ollie at her party, it seemed that she was jealous of both Clark and Lois, not specifically Lois for being with Clark, more like being a reporter, having fun with her partner who happens to be Chloe´s best friend... IMO it would have been weird if Chloe had wished she was Clark.

Thanks for this :), Im a Cloiser so if I say I really thought ED nailed (with in reasonable expectations) Chloe, its just cause Im biased, so its always nice to hear her performance being apreciated by people who are not pro ED biased.

I think she realised that she's never really been head over heels for any man yet.
She has a lot of love for Clark, and for Jimmy (without the massive puppy infatuation she had first time round for Clark) but she now finally realises that doesn't have to equate to you being fully invested into that person just because they showed you some affection in return.
It's good because she's finally comfortable within her own right and her own role without needing to look at Clark to see where she's standing.

This is a man that no matter what, Chloe could almost always go to in times of need. Clark went as far as to forgive her about her investigation on him for Lionel. Clark's illness affected her so much that she was able to pour her heart out to him from a letter, albeit he was real out of it, but they were honest feelings. You never forget the first person you love and that's where Chloe is. She's willing to step aside for Lois because she has moved on. It's hard to break a bond between two people when the bond is as strong as Chloe's and Clark's. In Infamous Clark was happy that he could be himself after having Lois print his story. Around Chloe, which was the case for Lana, Pete, Lionel, and his parents, he is himself which is something he always wants. I go back to the very first episode when Clark punched his hand in the wood chipper. He asked his Dad, "Is this normal? I'd give anything to be normal." That is one thing that hasn't changed and Chloe has put her feelings aside for Clark because she knows that he will do great things.

I agree with that. And I think part of leaving the past in the past is to leave the feelings in the past too. She was jealous of Lois when Clark called Lois and ignored her on her freakin birthday. And she also was sad when she saw Clark looking at Lois like that. But this ep seemed to help her move on more fully then marrying Jimmy ever would.

That about sums up what i wanted to say :)
Smallville has presented, in Chlark, the best telling of unrequited true love i have ever seen. And you can move on, you can fall in love with other people, you can even get married, and there is still a part of you that will always love that person. Always.

I don't see how the "you never forget the first person you love" rule applies here.
I think the point Chloe stumbled upon (or finally accepted) is that she's never been IN love with anyone her whole life. That's what Lois always wanted her to see.
I'm not saying Chloe doesn't love Clark dearly as a fried, but anything above and beyond that was puppy love/infatuation that simply wasn't returned. She moved on from that long ago with a botched attempt at keeping Jimmy around her for comfort and yet she didn't return his full on feelings either.

My answer is yes... you never really get over somenone you love. Even if it's
unrequited love (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unrequited_love)!
If I'd have to choose... to be a friend to a girl I love or give up the friendship I'd choose the latter. It's simply too hard to live with some feelings while the other moves on. Not to mention that being sort of hung up on someone means that you don't fully allow yourself to fall in love with somebody else.

I don't think Chloe still has feelings for Clark. I just think she wanted to go back to a simpler time in her life. Or she wanted to be someone else totally to forget her own problems, so that is why she was wishing she was Lois. Chloe really is a strong person. Her wedding day was destroyed, her husband was at deaths door, then leaves her after he recovers (I don't blame him though) and she doesn't even have a job engrossing enough to bury herself in to avoid her problems. I'm surprised that she is not staying in bed, totally depressed and sleeping her days away.

Chloe will always have feelings for Clark but she is will to let them go for his happiness. With the whole thing with Lana in high school she let them go but was not happy about it. Also I think that she saw Lana true colors before Clark realized it. Also I think if Lois was not around they be together. Another thing is since Lois is around she is willing to let them go because Lois is a part of his life. The Chlark friendship more than a friendship it just something deeper. But those feelings are not defined.
Chloe will always love Clark but that doesn't mean she has to be in love with him. By now it's obvious that she has let go of any idea of her and Clark.

I went with the second option. I think that her last speech about not being able to be the person you are supposed to be if you live in the past says it all. I think that she realized that the romantic side of her relationship with Clark needs to stay in the past. I think that she realized that Clark loves Lois and that he was never in love with her.

I feel she was not fully over him, at list until this episode. But she had left him go, and she did it before Hex, and she tried to move on with her life (which is what she tried to do with Jimmy, but didn't work out)...
I think is so sweet and sad she has been all this years side by side with Clark, always there for him, despite she knew she will never be loved the way she loved Clark ( my heart breaks with Chloe...). Of course there's the "help to fight the good fight" thing, but still, I think it was hard for Chloe to make the decision of stick with Clark despite all, and without pushing anything.
So, what she said in Hex was completely understandable for me... Is hard to stop wonder what if.... they would've had an opportunity to be together... and is hard not to be upset because they never give it a chance to be (as a Chlarker i think there were moments they could've took and give it a chance... but always happened that one of them gave a step back on that moment...).
But I always felt that even if Clark wasn't full in love with Chloe, he had her on a big and special place in his heart... like "maybe she's not the woman who I'm meant to be, but she's and always will be my soulmate" kind of feeling. A friedship more than friendship, a bond bigger than anything... She was deep down in his heart.
So, what is making me mad now, is PS3 seems to be doing everything they can to destroy that strong bond, and they are trying to cheap their relationship to a common friendship...
So, in that case, I hope what we saw in Hex, is that Chloe finally realize that she deserves so much than just being Clark sidekick...
