View Full Version : The Red-Blue Blur Sucks
Superman of Krypton
03-19-2009, 09:31 PM
This red-blue blur nonsense is getting really lame.
I understand they don't want to use the title 'Superman' or use the costume (or any costume)....
But this seems like such a ham-fisted alternative.
I mean the phonebooth change into his same old red jacket and blue t-shirt was
cheesy. The anvil-dropping and teasing using the Red-Blue Blur is starting to wear thin..
It was bad enough that the Red-Blue blur's first public appearance was Oliver in a mask, jeans and cape..
I was happy they wanted to make Clark more proactive, but it's being executed in such a half-assed way.

You may never ever see any of this stuff. It's Smallville's best kept secret that not to many people are aware of.

I don't know, I kind of like it. It's better then Clark not having another identity.

I agree with the name. I mean I love me some superhero moments that they are giving us, but the title needs to go.
Good Samaritan was even a lot better than Red Blue Blur.
I'd really like them to use his official title, but I don't know if maybe they are saving that for the last season or they can't because of some DC stipulation or a restriction from the features division. However I know they can come up with something better than Red Blue Blur and the name is so long we are all starting to say RBB and that doesn't sound much better, but it saves our fingers.
But long story short, yes he needs a better name.
I don't have a problem with the outfit though, because mostly he is a blur, so people don't get a real good look at him anyway. Would I like to see a proto-suit though if we can't have THEE suit, yes I would, very much, but I don't have any huge problem with the old standby.
It is just the name that is starting to irk me.

yeah, i wonder what's the point of airing this show anymore. Besides those things, Clark's story is pretty much done.

People did get a good look at the Red Blue Blur..
When Oliver was on the roof in Identity.
That explains why Dan Turpin's kid wore a mock-up version of the costume Oliver wore.
That is the look of the RED BLUE BLUR apparently.

Yes, but I mean while he is out and about now. That's why he's named the blur, because he's a blur.
But I do think he is going to be slowing down, so-to-speak, in the future and people will get a better eye on him. Then I'd like to see some kind of proto-suit.
Especially with 'Stiletto' coming up where Lois gets up close and personal with him in a telephone booth apparently. So how the heck is she not going to know it is Clark? That's my question.
But until then I'm alright with the red-blue duds, but the name has to go ASAP, and to the post above me, why can't he wear glasses? I understand some of the other stipulations, I don't like them but I can understand them, but no glasses? That seems like a silly restriction. Is it because they don't think Tom Welling would be as attractive a leading man if he had glasses on? Because that IS ridiculous.

Whatever name is given to Clark in super mode is going to fall short of him being called Superman. Like everything else in Clark's journey, an identity is going to take time to develope and it's good to see him progressing.

There's so many better names they could have used; Man of Steel is the most obvious.
But it isn't just the name. Clark blurring around like the Flash just doesn't feel like Superman; it feels like a SV-created hero.

I'm alright with no Superman costume, but I wouldn't be against some kind of proto-suit. Something like Green Arrow wears. Plus it could be all nice and form fitting and that'd be pretty enjoyable too. :p
I really would like him to have the title though, but if he can't he can't, but definitely there needs to be something better than Red Blue Blur, is isn't even comfortable to say. Good Samaritan wasn't the best name in the universe but it was a heck of a lot better than RBB.

That name crossed my mind as well but maybe they can't use that either? Blue Boyscout? LOL, I'm kidding.

That's true, but that doesn't mean we should settle for something like RBB. Like some of us had said, it was "Good Samaritan" before and that was A LOT better than Red Blue Blur. It wasn't perfect but it wasn't terrible either.
I do agree it is good to see him progressing and I'm really loving all the little 'Superman' moments we've been getting but that name just irks me more and more everytime I hear it, and as much as I love Clark and his superhero self this season he just deserves a nicer name.
I can deal with RBB if I have to but I do wonder why they couldn't have come up with something better.

I was hoping he'd give up the Red farmer jacket and Blue t shirt this year.
Instead he's turned it into his superhero uniform today.
It's silly enough that he wore it in practically every episode in previous seasons.
We never got an explanation on screen why he wears Red and Blue work clothes on a farm.
Even stranger that he's obviously got a BIG supply of those jackets and shirts, since he destroys several of them each season...

I totally agree, I hate that stupid @$$ name RBB. Its lame and I think it has to go like NOW! This show doesn't feel like superman related anymore to me either. Just a super powerful man trying to hide himself from people and gets sick around green rocks. lol
----- Added 12 Minutes later -----
Also why can they use Doomsday and other super hero names but can't call him super boy, or super something anything other that flippin RBB

I don't mind him not changing into tights and cape; if it's showing signs of Clark embracing his duo-identity, that is enough for me. The costume can come later. And the phone booth change was not cheesy at all, was actually the highlight of this episode, since the rest was all about hot new ships Chlavis and Cless.

Source? I seem to recall that the rule regarding Lois was quite the opposite, that her and Clark had to be together at the end, or that Clark had to be in a position to be available for Lois, something like that. The "no flights no tights" rule is solely on TW, and if he caves it will be allowed.

If they do manage to come up with a way for Clark and his alter ego to not be recognizable as one another they could always just have Clark refer to his alter ego as Kal-El.

Ok well lets see they already did the whole flying thing in season 4 even though he was Kal-El and then that jumper he did to stop that missile in one of the seasons and I think that whole Lois and Clark not dating or anything like that is stupid IMO

I may be in the minority here, but I actually don't mind the RBB at all. Don't get me wrong, I squeal at iconic moments just as much as the next obsessed fan, but names are just names. There's a limited amount of meaning in a label, no matter how famous that label is.
You could call Clark's alter-ego Mr. Rogers or the Nestle Rabbit, and it wouldn't matter to me so long as it's the same story underneath. The original Superman story was what sucked me in and it will continue to do so as long as the essence remains the same. Deep down, it's about the same things: morality, dual identities, love, acceptance, heroism, etc. Personally, I'm kind of enjoying that they're reimagining the story to better fit with the times and the tone of the show. The actual Superman suit would be incredibly out of place on this show, imo.

Than why continue? What else can Clark do? That is all he have left! He has to do all of the above next season! There is no way this show can't last any longer w/o it. This show has passed the "Journey to Superman" He is doing everything that Supes should do right now! Now it is just getting stupid, this show will lose more ratings if they don't give us what we want.

It is wearing a little thin. When Clark changed from the suit to his "costume" at the farm my initial reaction was WTF! Talk about a lame rip off of Superman. But hey its either this, or Clark moping around the farmhouse doing absolutely nothing.

That's a good word to describe it.
It just feels like a half-assed imitation only for teasing fans.
But at the same time, its kind of insulting to the fans' intelligence.

I think Clark should go to Blue Coveralls(baggy) and the red cape the actress laid on him. Plus , he could wear his CK clothes under the coveralls for the quick change. I'm thinking knee high steel toe engineer boots to complete the look. It's iconic and hilarious at the same time.

It will switch up next season when the public starts demanding to know more about him. He's going to have to make himself (The RBB) a public figure, while maintaining "Clark Kent" as an unremarkable citizen. There is LOTS and LOTS of room for development in that area. Especialy since the guy doesn't wear glasses!

I don’t know why but I could manage to smile in this scene. But my WTF moment was when he did it again later at the end of the episode. I mean, talk about Clark Kent changing himself in a very iconic-way in the phonebooth (yay!) at the Daily Planet (woot!) into …………the same old red jacket & blue T-shirt combo he’s been wearing for…….how many years now? lol I share your sentiments, regarding the part being ‘a lame rip off of Superman’.
I don’t want to see any proto costume in SV and I’m totally fine with him blur-ing with his blue & red combo but to tease us like that looks ridiculous. JMO So I have to agree with the O/P here.

Can’t Clark wear his glasses in SV? Really?? I didn’t know that. If this is true, so disappointing…… :(

in the comics he was refered to as superman before he went public in the costume, so why can't someone call him that now?
The reall problem with red and blue blur is that it is a mouthful to say. Something like the Metropolis Guardian Angel or just the Metropolis Guardian would at least be a real superhero name. MAybe Red and Blue Boyscout.

It’s just my opinion but it’s maybe because he is not so……..’super’ (yet) ?
I mean, no one knows what RBB can do except bluring, ….. I mean runs faster than the speed of sound. They probably know he has a super-strength as well but maybe this is it. RBB is still very much mysterious to people. They don’t know how super he is, they don’t even know if this blur is a *man*. (Oh wait. They do, don't they? From 'Identity'.) But I still think it’s very logic to call him as what he literally is to them at this moment. Red and Blue Blur. = All what they can see with their own eyes. JMO
ETA: I agree with the ‘mouthful’ part. lol
If Clark and Lois can't date, then they can't be a couple! Then why are we talking so much about Clois?! If it never can happen in this show.

Who are ‘we’ in this case, Anu? May I ask you?
If you meant ‘we’ as the ‘show runners’, I have one answer for you. = tease (IMHO)
If you meant ‘we’ as Clois fans, then I don’ know. Maybe because that’s what they’d like to see on the show?
If you meant ‘we’ as SV general fans, well, we always tend to end up talking about ships no matter how ship-less topic we’re originally talking about, aren't we? lol
Just my 2 cents. :p

Please! Don’t be convinced by my words! lol The good thing is no one knows at this point for sure if it makes you feel any better. On a brighter note, I’m almost pretty sure that Clark will realize Lois is THE one before the series end. Maybe he’ll even verbalize it to someone (or maybe to Shelby) so that we don’t have to play another *interpretation* game for this one. As for Clois dating…….well, wise men often say “Believe & be saved”, right? So let’s keep believing, me about glasses, and you about Clois date! ;)
