I'm not going to make this into a huge epic award winning review. I basically just wanted to share my likes and dislikes with the episode.
First off, I might be the only one happy to see Jimmy back for once. While I am not a huge fan of his character, I do like to see him take a role from time to time.
The Davis killing people in the hospital and outside was pretty solid. The scenes were dark and I liked that a lot.
Chloe and Jimmy's relationship quickly came to a halting crash as Jimmy finally got tired of Chloe taking everyone's sides but his and going by the rather well done ending to the episode, the man is moving on. It appears he is also on a mission (to defeat Davis Bloome?). I liked the emotional aspect of the scene as well as the music.
Funny how you can almost count on the final few minutes of a Smallville episode to deliver but this scene was one of the best in the episode (Chloe/Jimmy Hospital and Jimmy in the car). My opinion of course.
Most of the sequences between Clark and Tess were also interesting as Tess indicated that she knew Clark was holding some heroic secrets from her. She tried to fish but Clark wouldn't budge on his secrets. I have a feeling that by the next episode that features Tess, she may know his secrets by then. Possibly!
Most of the episode was low budget as usual but still solid for what they can afford to do within the show. There is, however one scene that greatly disappointed me.
While I knew Clark wouldn't be flying in this episode and will likely never actually fly in the Smallville show due to the DC restrictions, the fact that they didn't even show him land on the ground holding Tess in his arms (hugely missed opportunity) felt beyond cheap and the budget really really showed in this scene. In fact, after the previous trailer teasing flight along with CW's own network email they sent out claiming that Clark would fly, it was extremely upsetting to see them not even show him land on the ground (falling with style or something) and it made me almost want to turn off the tv.
I was around since season one and I can tell you that the old episodes were MUCH better when it came to special effects and action. I don't know, I hate to beat a dead horse on this one but if they are never going to have Clark fly then they should tease it in almost every episode and if they are going to make a scene with Clark jumping out of a plane, at least show him hit the ground.
Anyways, Turbulence was a solid episode with some highlights and some disappointments. The budget clearly shows but there isn't much the producers/writers can do about that so I won't hold it over their head. That being said, even with the mediocre budget, I still think they are doing a decent job with the storytelling.
I rate this episode a 7.5 out of 10
